    Scripture

Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine (Proverbs (9:5)

I sought the Lord, and he answered me (Psalm 34:11)

be filled with the Spirit, (Ephesians 5:17)

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life,. (John 6:54)

    Reflection

How do you live the Eucharist in the parish community?

How does the Eucharist / Jesus become the essence of your life?

How do you pray when you are alone with Jesus?

When you have no answer (or spiritual experience) to your prayer, do you keep praying?

Had I understood always as I do now, that so great a King resided in my soul I should not have left him alone sooften, but should have stayed with Him sometimes and not have kept his dwelling place in such shambles. (StTeresa of Avila).

Pray wholeheartedly, though you may feel nothing, though you may see nothing, yes, though you think that youcould not, for in dryness and barrenness, in sickness and weakness, then is your prayer most pleasing to me,hough you think it is almost tasteless to you. And so is all your living prayer in my sight. (Julian of Norwich -

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Wise and Foolish VirginsParables of Jesus. Written by Pete MillerIt teaches Christians to be Prepared for the Second Coming.parable is a figure of speech, an extended metaphor, a story using common actions or circumstances designed to illustrate a spiritual truth, a principle or a mor

on. The word parable comes from the Greek word parabole, which means to place beside or side by side for the purpose of comparison. A parable can usually be ided by the use of the word like. This was the method of teaching Jesus used most often. The parables of Matthew 25 are abo ut future judgment: the ten virginlents or the unprofitable servant, and the separation of the sheep and the goats. They follow chapter 24 with Jesus teaching His disciples many signs of His se

oming. The parable (25:1-13), paraphrased is this: the kingdom of heaven is compared to ten virgins. In the Bible, virgins were young women of marriageablure and chaste. A bride is not mentioned here, and these women are more likely part of the wedding ceremony, such as bridesmaids. Their lamps were an importanf the wedding procession. Five are called wise and five are called foolish. The wise ones had extra oil for their lamps, and the foolish ones had no extra oil.

Jesus spoke of the bridegroom being delayed, and while all the women waited, they dozed off. At the most unlikely time, midnight, the bridegroom arrived, anomen were summoned. The foolish five asked the others for oil, because their lamps were going out. The wise women refused, beca use there wasnt enough for a

nd they told the foolish five to go buy their own oil. In their absence, the bridegroom came, and those that were ready went in with him to the wedding, and the

as shut. When the five foolish females showed up, they were too late. They cried out, Lord, Lord, open to us! But the bridegroom answered, I do not know hen Jesus made His point again, in verse 13: Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. The parable the Wise and Foolish Virgins, also known as the ten virgins has volumes written about it. The point of the parable is in verse 13. Watch. Be prep

tay awake. The Greek word for watch (and wake in 1 Thessalonians 5:10) is gregoreo, and is where the name, Gregory, comes from. It means watchful or vigilappears in 1 Corinthians 16:13: Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Also in 1 Thessalonians 5:6: Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but atch and be sober.

In the Bible, there were three watches mentioned in the Old Testament: the beginning, middle and morning watches (Lamentations 2:19; Judges 7:19; Exodus nd 1 Samuel 11:11). In the New Testament, likely due to Roman influence, there are four watches, night watches, all mentioned in Mark 13:35. The context is anarable Jesus taught, with the same message. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who leouse and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master ouse is comingin the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morninglest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, all: Watch! (Mark 13:33-37)There are more implications in the parable of the ten virgins, but the final thrust is clear. Stay awake and watchful spiritually. Be ready for anything. For the Chri

is is accomplished first and foremost by staying in Gods Word and in prayer. And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for

ur salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the a

    f light. (Romans 13:11, 12) Retrieved from http://www.sharefaith.com

Bible Study on the Book of Matthew by Amy Miller

The book of Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and is also the first of the four Gospels.Nearly all scholars accept Matthew as the author, but the message of the book is unanimously acknowl-dged: Jesus is the King. The phrase "kingdom of heaven" is used 33 times in Matthew, emphasizing notnly the existence of a government outside of the administration of the priests, scribes and religious teach-rs, but also that Jesus, who is proven as the Son of David, is the King over that kingdom.

t had been more than 400 years since the people of Judah had returned to Jerusalem from their exile toBabylon. During that time, the leaders of Israel had grown accustomed to their position of authority, andad poisoned the people's perspective of God and His laws. But the arrival of Jesus, who fulfilled the law

hat they fought so desperately to keep, weakened their spiritual power they held over Jerusalem. Someonereater had come to claim His place. Just as the prophet Jeremiah had prophesied: "Behold, the days areoming,"says the LORD, "that I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; a King shall reign androsper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth."(Jeremiah 23:5, NKJV)

The book of Matthew not only proves that Jesus was the long-awaited Savior, but also proves that He washe Son of David. In chapter one, Matthew begins his narrative with the genealogy of Jesus, beginning

with Abraham. This genealogical listing is called theRegal, or Royal line. The bloodline begins withAbraham, the first of the great patriarchs throughwhom began the covenantal promise that one day allhe nations of the world would be blessed.

rom the beginning, God's redemptive plan formankind included a way for all the nations to comeo him. Through Abraham came Isaac, and thenacob. From Jacob came the 12 tribes of Israel.

Through the tribe of Judah came King David.Through David's son, Solomon, came Jesus Christ. And finally, through the unifying blood of JesusChrist, all mankind could be reconciled to God.

This truth was brought into the light through per-aps the most confrontational verse in the entire book of Matthew: "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of

God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it." (21:43) Jesus was speaking tohe chief priests and the elders among the people of Jerusalem, and his message was clear: The Messiahhat they were rejecting will be given to those whom the leaders despised, and they will accept Him as

    King.

ome of the best known sections of the book of Matthew are the Beatitudes, found in chapter five; therucifixion, death and burial of Jesus found in chapter 27; the resurrection found in chapter 28, and finallywhat is called the Great Commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing themn the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that Iave commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."(28:19-20)

n the next book of the New Testament, another dimension of Jesus and His ministry is revealed throughhe writings of Mark.
