MASS SCHEDULE
Today is the first Sunday of Advent, which is also the first Sunday of the new liturgical year. The Advent seasoncludes the four Sundays that precede Christmas. Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of the Lord. In this
eason, we recall two central elements of our faith: the final coming of the Lord in glory and the incarnation of theord in the birth of Jesus. The key themes of the Advent season are watchful waiting, preparation, and justice.
In this new liturgical year, the Gospel of Luke will be the primary Gospel proclaimed (Lectionary Cycle C). To-ay's Gospel is taken from the last chapter before the passion narrative in which Jesus is teaching in the Temple. Weear Jesus speak to his disciples about the need for vigilance and prayer as they wait for the coming of the Son of
Man in glory. This passage marks the conclusion of a lengthy dialogue in which Jesus predicts the destruction of theemple in Jerusalem, warns about the persecution and tribulations to follow, and identifies the signs that will signale coming of the Son of Man in glory.
The community for whom Luke wrote his Gospel may have believed that they were already experiencing some of
e events Jesus described. Most scholars believe that Luke's Gospel was written after the destruction of Jerusalemy the Romans in 70 A.D. At the time, many Christians interpreted this event as an indication that Jesus' secondoming was near.
Though Jesus predicts a time of destruction and fear, Jesus indicates that others will be frightened; Jesus' disci-es are not to fear, but are to stand tall. Yet Jesus does not promise deliverance from anxiety or tribulations. He
ncourages his disciples to pray for strength. The early Christian communities did not find consolation in the prom-e of a utopia, nor should we. Instead, we find in our Christian faith the means by which we witness to God's unfail-g love for us in all circumstances.Jesus' predictions about the end times may sound dire, but in the next paragraph Luke tells us that people woke
arly to listen to Jesus' teaching in the Temple area. In his person and in his message, those who heard Jesus foundrength and consolation. Like the first Christians, we may encounter events and circumstances that could lead us toespair. Once again the MCCW will be offering to its ladies the chance to partici-pate in it's Advent Angel Program. The Posada is coming to our Parish!!The Posada is a traditional Christmas celebration that Franciscan missionaries developed inAmerica with the goal of introducing the faith. It continues to be popular throughout thesouthwestern United States and all of Latin America and is a rich tradition for Knights andtheir families to share. The Christmas Posada expresses perfectly the suspense and surprises
of the season. It is a prayer, a play, a party and a gathering for families, parishes and wholecommunities. It is a celebration that children and adults can enjoy together, as well as thosefrom all different cultural backgrounds. VOLUNTEERS COORDINATOR (volunteer position)t. Michaels Parish at Fort Gordon is looking for a dedicated, hardworking per-on, sensitive to the ways God calls and equips people for mission in daily life, toelp the members of our congregation grow in both spirituality and in participa-on. Positive communication skills, including both quality listening skills andomfort with cold-calling, are a necessity! Ability to maintain open and oftenommunication with parish volunteers.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:- Establish and maintain relationships with congregation members and com-
munity organizations to assist the congregation in accomplishing itsmissional responsibilities.
- Create and maintain databases of congregational member information suchas skills and interests. Such databases may include some or all softwaresuch as Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Mi-crosoft Publisher.
- Establish and oversee recruitment procedures to meet specific group needsfor activities and functions of volunteers.
- Evaluate the work of volunteers to ensure that work is of appropriate qual-ity and that resources are used effectively.
- Assist in the assimilation process of new members. Work with the ParishLife Coordinatorto acknowledge, recognize, and support volunteers aswell as recommend new directions for ministry.
- Help connect members with existing ministries and programs within thecongregation.
- Report questions, comments, or concerns regularly to the Parish Life Coor-dinator.
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastorand/or Parish Life Coordinatoror asdeemed necessary.

The Lost SheepParables of Jesus. Written by Pete Millerwo Gospels record this parable of the lost sheep. In Matthew 18, Jesus disciples asked Him, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Jesus an
heir question by teaching humility and the value of one life, in this case, the life of a child. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the st in the kingdom of heaven.Then He gives a stern warning. Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for himillstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Afterward, Jesus acknowledges that there are situations in life which cause people to stumble and fall, and to be misled. Indeed, there are fallacies proated that cause people to believe wrongly. This may be unavoidable, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! This warning is particularly di
those who mislead and wrongly teach children. In todays world, perhaps this warning could apply to parents, caregivers, a nd school teachers who teachren modern myths instead of the Word of God.
Jesus then taught, Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones. The New Living Translation put is this way: dont look down on aese little ones,and the New Century Version translates it: dont think these little children are worth nothing. It is at this point that Jesus makes thiration. or the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. And then, in this context, He presents this parable.What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek th
at is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even sot the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.Here, possibly, the sheep is a child, a spiritually lost child, an abandoned child, a fatherless child, an abused child. When this child is rescued, spared,
nd brought back into the fold, so to speak, there is rejoicing. Gods crystal -clear will is that not one of these little ones should perish.The second occurrence of this parable is in Luke 15:1-7. It is quite a different scenario, a different cast of characters, a different but similar lesson and
