Inquiry-Based Lab• The students do this lab while working on

circular motion, before starting oscillations.• Simple pendulums, oscillations, and periods

are defined.• The students are asked to determine what

controls the period of a simple pendulum.

Lab Equipment

• String• Various Masses• Meter sticks• Protractors• Stopwatches• Video Cameras

Lab Procedure

• The first day groups develop their own procedures

• The next days in the lab they follow the procedures they developed.

Lab Analysis

• At the beginning of the year the students learned to work in MS Excel.

• They can manipulate and graph data.• They know how to linearize graphs.

Lab Report & Conclusion

• Each groups turns in a laboratory report, giving them practice writing as a group.

• This requires the students to carefully summarized what they have learned.

• Doing so will also make it easier to connect what they have found to other parts of the unit.
