I want to thank everyone who attended Education Night on February 7th at NC State University. Sorry I was unable to attend, I understand all enjoyed a great evening that started with a fantastic tour of the NCSU Library that is so much more than just a library.

Our next meeting is March 14th. We have scheduled a tour at Honda Power Equipment in Swepsonville, NC. The tour will start at 3:00pm and will be pre-ceded by the board meeting at 2:00pm at Tim Earley’s house. After the tour we will travel to The Golden Corral for dinner - pivate room. Thank you for your support for our SPE Piedmont Coastal section. We have 142 total members (includ-ing students). We have 52 student members. Thanks to CCCC, NCSU and North Carolina A&T State Univer-sity for their support. (Jan 2017 SPE HQ dropped many expired members, we lost 40)I encourage every member to sign up a new member for the 2016-2017 year. Let’s all work toward increas-ing our membership. If you have changed jobs or loca-tion, please send me a note. If you have any email, employment, or phone number changes, please contact me as well.If you have someone you feel can benefit from joining SPE, give them an application or send me their name and I will submit it to SPE and have you as the refer- ring member.

Councilor’s Report – Clark Broome1. Next SPE Council meeting will be via. teleconference on March 9, 29172. SPE CEO Willem De Vos will be stepping down from his position in 2017. Education Night 2017Maury BalikEducation Committee Chair

The February 2017 meeting held at NC State University marked the 22nd annual Education Night for the Piedmont-Coastal Section. This year the section donated $5,000 in scholarships and grants to various institutions. Central Carolina Community College received $500 to support the Tool and Die Program, and an ad-ditional $1000 was donated to the Dean Wakefield Memorial Scholarship Fund. These funds will be used to provide scholarships for CCCC students like Charles Marks and Cody Duncan, who attended the meeting. Kelsey Beal is the recipient of the $1500 SPE Senior Scholarship in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NC State University. Finally, $2000 was donated to SPE headquarters to support student activities at the annual ANTEC meeting.The Piedmont-Coastal Section congratulates the students who received these awards and wishes them well as they complete their education and pursue jobs in the plastics industry.
