Story of our Life

High School Drama- group 34

Brief story lineA nerd girl, who just left boarding school in the country side to move to the city, will wake up late for school and we will see her get ready to leave the house. She gets on the bus. It is clear she is not comfortable with the packed city environment. We then see other students from different cliques (goth, rebel, rich girl, loser boy) travelling to school by different methods. The school bell will ring when they arrive and aspects of the school such as the clock, classrooms, canteen, graffiti etc will be shown. The movie in general will be about the problems (choosing uni, romantic relationships, bullying, partying etc) which the many different teenagers go through.

Type of title sequenceStylised titles are going to be used in our sequence.

Mean Girls and 10 Things I Hate About You influenced our choice as they match the theme of the high school story line. We plan to conform to the typical conventions of having bold and fun titles.

Sub genre- Comedy & Romance

We enjoy the opening of The Breakfast Club where we see the different students travelling to school as it clearly represents the different students very well in just a few minutes. We plan to conform to these stereotypical openings of high school films.

Representation We will be introducing groups that are stereotypical to the high school sub genre of teen film. These consist of groups such as:1. Rebels (Attractive male) 2. Nerds 3. Popular girls (Rich) 4. Goths 5. Loser boy These social groups can be represented by aspects of mise en scene such as costume and body language. For example; a goth will be presented with dark make-up and costume, most likely with body language suggesting isolation and avoidance of contact. A character like a jock who is also a rebel will be most likely an attractive male bursting with confidence, suggested by the way he moves around and the way he communicates with people around him and his attitude towards education. Jocks are most often seen in sports wear such as a baseball or football jacket.

Institutional Details Our short film will be made to be a mainstream production, from the production company 'Paramount'. We have decided to go with this as it is the production company that seems to appear often in the high school dramas such as 'Mean Girls‘ and ‘Clueless’. As Paramount is an international, high budget production company, the titles will most likely be extended as we would have to credit many people. Since they are a major company, their logo would appear first in our title sequence.

Audience Detail Our core target audience consists of females of ages from 13-25 because the main character is a girl and the movie is centered around a female student’s high school problems

Our wider target audience are males who can relate to the supporting roles such as the male love interest or the loser boy.

To attract our core audience we will have bold, colourful titles which will also be visually stimulating by the movement of them.

To address them we will also make use of an effective soundtrack which the audience will enjoy listening to so that they can engage with the movie more.
