About Sound

.wav - a format developed by Windows and used extensively on Windows operating systems

.mp3 - audio format that compressed sound with minimal loss of quality (i.e. audio file size is a lot smaller as an .mp3 compared to a .wav). This is the most popular sound format for music.

Streaming

•Technique for transferring data such that it can be processed as a steady and continuous stream.

•The client browser or plug-in (WMV, QuickTime, Flash) can start displaying the data before the entire file has been transmitted.

Podcasting

Method of distributing audio to users through subscription to audio feeds online

Feeds can also be used to deliver audio content (usually in MP3 format) which you can listen to on your computer or MP3 player. This is referred to as podcasting.

Podcasting and Feeds

A feed, also known as RSS feed, XML feed, syndicated content, or web feed, is frequently updated content published by a website.

Usually used for news and blog websites, but can also be used for distributing other types of digital content, including pictures, audio or video.

Podcasting and Feeds

RSS feeds can also be used to subscribe to blogs, wikis, websites with a news delivery function and social bookmarking sites. Trainers can selectively release podcasts and blog materials to learners by encouraging learners to use RSS feeds.

Audio Files can easily be recorded using sound recording software that enable mixing in of multiple voices, sound effects and music.
