Thermal Optimization EDSL Tas

The project was based on a series of contest entries for the extension of a school building, in the attempt to analyze and compare their thermal performance after the renovation of the old part of the building.

After constructing the model, following the base case scenario with the initial construction materials, the different spaces of the building were assigned zones, for a better management of the results.

The optimized scenario included the optimization of the The optimized scenario included the optimization of the exterior walls, by adding insulation, and the optimization of the windows construction. Also, on the southern part of the building, blinds were added to the windows, as integrated shading system.

The project is a Japanese cultural center in a rural area near Bucharest, Romania, encompassing various activities in the form of workshops, classes and conferences.

The case study of this lighting simulation is a hall within the The case study of this lighting simulation is a hall within the ground level of the guests housing building, a 120 sqm lounge for relaxation, reading and discussions. The hall also hosts kiatsu (healing with ki energy) classes, in the after-noons.

There are 2 long walls that are mostly windows. Towards the south, the wall is shaded by the overhanging upper floor and by the trees in the courtyard.Towards north - northwest there are vertical louvre shadings that are used in the summertime.

ARTIFICIAL LIGHTINGBASE CASE SCENARIO ILLUMINANCE LEVELS

ARTIFICIAL LIGHTINGOPTIMIZED SCENARIO ILLUMINANCE LEVELS

The illuminance level requirements are not met for the kiatsu area, that I have considered a sports area, which has a minimum requirement of 300 lux. Also, in the relaxation area, beyond the pillars row, the illuminance levels should be between 400-500 lux.

The same kind of uplighting luminaires have been added to the opposing pillars of the kiatsu area, along with accent downlights. Also, downlighting luminaires have been placed in the discussions area, one over each set of two seating pillows. The illuminance levels are now at the correct levels.
