1 | Geared‘Kawads’

These handicraft items from Bassi were popular in the past for story-tell-ing. Unfortunately, the craft has been dying and only five families in the village know how to make them now. To put a contempo-rary touch to it , I re-made them using the gear mechanism. The gears helped open the doors. I stuck to the ep-ics to be painted on the doors. A little pro-motional materail was also designed to cre-ate awareness. Cam mechanism was used to design the informa-tion board. It was a delightful experience to construct these lit-tle boxes, to gear it and to paint the same stories that were used in the ancient past.

2 | PlayCollaps-way

Collapsibility involves compacting the prod-uct so it is easy to car-ry around. The prod-uct that i had taken to collapse was a bad-minton net stand. The game is often played without the net indoors or outdoors. The two poles required to hang the net may or may not be available. Hence, a collapsible stand which can be carried easi-ly with the rest of the equipments. A graphic booklet was created to understand the steps to put together the stand. The pictures along-side show the steps in-volved in collapsing.

3 | Wine-ing, the Jodhpuri

way This wine bottle- hold-er (although not pho-tographed with bot-tles) was designed as a part of the Craft Cluster programme of F&LA, NIFT, New Delhi. The brief was to take inspiration from the ‘blue city’ and come up with a de-sign for food & bev-erage. The carving and jaalee work is in-spired by their Meh-rangarh fort. This bot-tle holder, meant for two wine bottles of standard size would look splendid on your home bar table.

4 | Brown leather

happiness These bags were constructed for the love of brown leath-er. We were intro-duced to bag con-struction as part of a classroom assign-ment. Since then my love for bags grew. The mix and match of colour palettes and leather textures was absolute play. It was extreme fun to cut out these pat-terns, stitch it with all the hardware and photograph them on bricks and oth-er construction ma-terial. The leather is raw, tough and ide-al for everyday use.

5 | Putting together

SPACE

The space de-signs shown along-side were a part of the classroom a s s i g n m e n t s . The black-grey-white space was developed on the idea of “The Grey Matter” which talk-ed about all the history of blacks vs whites with relation to Nelson Mandela. A common ground should be reached by combining the two sides. This was presented in an art deco style with bold shapes and lines. The other installa-tion on the far right symbolises the British classic textiles and was titled “An Ode to Timeless Beau-ty”. The clocks were done in vintage tex-tiles and the butter-flies were seen flying all around it denot-ing timelessness.

6A | Conceptual

sketches

In design, it is very important to be able to pen down your thoughts. Visual rep-resentation should be accurate so that product comes to life. Since i am com-fortable with wa-tercolour medium, I prefer them over any other material. Shown alongside are sketches which have been a part of class-room assignments in the past. Childrens’ shoes, dustbins for segregating waste, travel trolley bag and furniture concepts are displayed here.

6B | Meraki

I have been paint-ing since years now. I hold a junior and a senior diploma in painting from Bangi-ya Sangeet Parishad, West Bengal. Most of my artworks are done in watercolour but I enjoy mixing other mediums with it too. “The most beauti-ful experience we can have is the mys-terious - the fun-damental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.” -Albert Einstein

7 | The GoUNESCO

proud moment

I got the opportu-nity to be a part of GoUNESCO ; an organisation that spreads aware-ness of the Indian Heritage sites. The founder wanted me to be a part of their design team and create collat-erals for their up-coming runs. I loved working for them as I got to know about the amaz-ing heritage sites in India which are not very popular.
