ABOUT ME

My passion for design is found-ed in a desire to build, make and change the built environment for the better. Originally from New Zea-land, my travels have shown me the need to design spaces that im-pact people in a meaningful way. More recently, I’m about to complete a Bachelor of Environments from the Uni-versity of Melbourne, with the intention of going on to a Masters, and ultimate-ly becoming a registered Architect. When I’m not in the uni studio, you can find me out in the shed trying to (yet-again) fix old motorbikes (70’s Jap-anese types) or down at Philip Island fishing and exploring the outdoors. I’m a capable, passionate and teach-able design student willing to give 100% to any task put before me. Thanks for taking the time to consider my portfolio. This is a combination of: - undergraduate uni work - furniture design + build projects - personal design tasks - architectural work experience

STUDLEY PARK BOATHOUSE

Re-development of existing public use boathouse

Type: Public Use/ Commercial Location: Kew, Victoria

Studio Water 2014

This studio focused on a ‘master’, in my case, Rem Koolhaas, and the design was undertaken with reference to him. There is a large focus on program, as well as cir-culation. The study phase revealed several characteristics of his that are manifest in my outcome. The transition spaces, the pro-gram layout as well the materiality and pro-cess are all heavily influenced by Koolhaas. The process involved a large emphasis on iterative models and diagramming. The fi-nal outcome was one of two chosen to be displayed at the end of year exhibition.

HIGH COUNTRY CABINModular cabin for remote farm / adven-ture activities

Type: Private/ Residential Location: Ruahine Ranges, NZ

2014

This project was undertaken as a per-sonal design challenge with a real cli-ent and brief. The client owns a rugged farm in the NZ Manawatu and is an avid hunter and hiker. The brief called for a cabin that is modular and cheap to manufacture but remains practical.

PARAMETRIC JETTYAn undulating, sectioned, parametrical-ly-driven jetty that navigates the existing terrain.

Type: Public use/ InstallationLocation: Abbotsford, VIC

Studio Air 201503

This studio was based around paramet-ric design using Grasshopper in conjunc-tion with Rhino. The concept behind this design uses the undulating rocky topog-raphy of the Dights Falls weir to inform a new jetty that could extend out over the water and allow greater interaction. A series of algorithms were developed to manipulated a surface that was then sectioned to produce the seamless jet-ty. A full construction sequence was de-veloped as if it were to be constructed in real life. The manufacture and fabrica-tion was also considered for this reason.
