First Anniversary of the Hub
Portsmouth Music Hub was one of the first Hubs to be launched in the country. November 7th marks the first Anniversary of Portsmouth Music Hub and the impact of the Hub across the city and beyond has been far-reaching.
To celebrate the Hub’s first year, the Friends of Portsmouth Music Hub have kindly funded a Hub flag, which will fly in Guildhall Square on November 7th.
During the past year the Hub has impacted on the lives of thousands of children and young people across the city:
Over 4000 young people received weekly music lessons
Almost 7000 young people participated in the Portsmouth Music Programme
Over 5000 young people participated in music festivals across the city
Over 8000 young people participated in concerts, performances and musical events

Portsmouth Music Hub ActivitiesOver the past year, the Hub has provided a very wide range of musical events and opportunities through partnership, which include:
Large-scale professional concerts, e.g. The Royal Marines School of Music
Professional recitals in schools for over 2000 young people
Workshops including world music, jazz, rock and pop, classical music and composition
Vocal and instrumental ensembles
Songbooks and original commissions provided free for schools
Training and conferences for teachers
Hub celebrations e.g. Seascape at Portsmouth Guildhall
City-wide instrumental festivals
Opportunities to have a go at playing new instruments e.g. the Instrument Fair
Songs and events to support the London 2012 Olympic Games e.g. Torch Relay Choir
Civic events e.g. Mayor Making, Christmas Carols and Launch of the Education Strategy
Joint concerts and workshops with Hub Partners e.g. Band of the Royal Logistic Corps
Special School Celebration
Open rehearsals with Hub Partners
Performance evenings for musicians of all standards

Taste of the HubOn March 15th 2013 there is a full-scale Hub event at Portsmouth Guildhall
Hub Partners from across the region will be taking part in a celebration of the Hub’s diversity at Portsmouth
Guildhall. There will be over 25 workshops throughout the day so that you can choose to play, sing, listen,
compose, explore music technology and get a real taste for the Hub’s diversity. There is also a free children’s
concert in the afternoon by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Further details will be available on the
Hub website in the New Year. Put the date in your diary!
