SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Our swimming carnival was a fantastic success and it was great to see so many of our students taking part and doing their best. Many thanks to Mrs Law and the team of teachers who coordinated and ran the carnival to ensure it ran smoothly. Of course a big thank you to the parents, carers and friends who were there to support our wonderful students.

DISTRICT SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Thursday 28th February, our School Swimming team will compete at the District Swimming Carnival. I wish all our students

good luck as they compete against the best swimmers across the North Wollongong area. District swimming notes will be sent

home soon.

SCHOOL VOLUNTEER INDUCTION SESSIONS

Due to the Working With Children policy being updated, it is important for the safety of students and volunteers at our school

that correct procedure is followed. I would like to invite those volunteers wishing to help in our school in 2019 to a Volunteer

Induction Session either Wednesday, 6th March at 9:15am or Thursday, 7th March at 9:15am.

On this day, please bring with you 100 points proof of identity...Medicare Card (25points), Drivers licence (40 points), Credit

Card (25 points), Lands Rates Notice (35 Points) and / or a current Passport (70 points). Please allow approximately 30 minutes

for the Induction.

If you are unable to attend either meeting, please contact the office and I will organise to meet with you at a mutually

convenient time. We appreciate those parents who are able to offer their valuable time to support our students.

MEET THE TEACHER

It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers attend our ‘meet the teacher afternoon’ on Tuesday 12 February, especially on such a hot day. We hope the information provided was a good start for your child’s learning journey this year. The tasty sausage sandwiches were certainly a hit with everybody and I want to thank our General Assistant, Mr Phil Howchin and the staff for working so diligently to prepare and cook under such hot conditions. We understand that not everybody can attend due to other commitments so if you would like to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact them to make an appointment. They will be very glad to meet with you.

ACTIVE KIDS AND CREATIVE KIDS

Active Kids and Creative Kids are programs designed to encourage more children to participate in sport, active recreation

and creative and cultural activities.

Each year, parents, guardians and carers can receive a $100 voucher to go towards both creative and physical activities for

school aged children. That’s $200 worth of savings per year for each child.

A Creative Kids voucher will help parents to cover some of the registration, participation and tuition costs on activities such as

singing, drama, coding, languages, music, writing, drawing and photography.

The Active Kids voucher can be used on sports, fitness and physical activities for registration, participation and membership

costs.

The vouchers can be used once with an approved provider. To find out more, parents need to visit service.nsw.gov.au.

PARKING IN DROP OFF ZONES

Our school utilises a Drop-off zone to provide parents and carers with a safe environment to drop off their

children to school by car. This area provides convenience for drivers and improves

children’s safety. Parents and carers are able to legally drop off their children within a

short timeframe.

It was reported to the office that cars have been parking in our drop off zone in the

morning which is illegal and causes frustration and inconvenience to those parents and

carers who wish to utilise the drop off zone. Rangers patrol school areas regularly and this will incur a fine if

caught parking in the drop off zone.

It has also been reported that people are parking across driveways and this can cause friction in our

community. We have these road rules to keep everybody safe.

Please refrain from doing this to help keep our students safe when coming to school.

Thank you to all of the parents who welcomed me to the school last Friday when I was down at the crossing, it was lovely to

meet more of you. The students are very responsible waiting to be escorted across the road safely, I didn't realise how busy

Wilga St is. I did notice however that many students and families were using the driveway as walking access to the school, even

with half of the gate closed to deter this. I recently had a visit from the department's Work Health and Safety consultant and

from this visit we are now closing all gates to keep our students safe. I am asking that you do not access the school through the

driveway as it is vehicle access only. Please use the pedestrian access gate just down from the crossing.

TEACHERS LEARN TOO

Throughout the year the teachers and leaders at Corrimal Public School will be engaging in professional learning to build

capacity and strengthen their knowledge of current and emerging research to enhance their

educational expertise. On the School Development Day our whole staff attended professional

learning around building mathematical mindsets. All staff came away thinking differently

about the way maths is taught and learned. We will be doing more work around this

throughout the year and focussing on building students capacity to solve problems and think

critically. You may hear students coming home talking about having a sweaty brain at school.

This is great because the more we exercise our brain the more it grows.

Karen Vincenzini Principal

CORRIMAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION MEET & GREET CHS transition team teachers will be meeting with all of our stage 3, years 5 & 6 students this week on Monday 18th February from 2-3pm. They bring with them just a taste of some activities on offer at CHS. Please start having those conversations regarding what high school best suits your child. We look forward to the visit from our feeder school. Mrs Veljanovski, Mrs Strauss and Mr Quinlivan Classroom teacher

SEESAW

Just a friendly reminder that Seesaw is up and running in all classes. Seesaw gives parents and carers an insight into their child’s learning across all aspects of school. It empowers students of any age to create, reflect, collaborate and share their learning with their family in a positive way. We encourage you to make comments that enhance the learning experience for your child. QR codes went home on Tuesday and if you have any questions please see your child’s teacher.

Thank you!

HARMONY DAY

Harmony Day is fast approaching! This term, we will be celebrating Harmony Day in Week 8, on Friday the 22nd of March. Our celebration will be very similar to last years, with a variety of cultural and cooking stations. We would love to have our parents and community members involved in this years event. If you are able to volunteer some time on the day or have suggestions of countries/cultures we should celebrate please come and see Miss Marks or Mrs Veljanovski in the coming weeks. We would love to celebrate the diversity of our students at CPS and their cultures and backgrounds. A note will be going home in regards to Harmony Day in the coming weeks...

LIFE EDUCATION

During Week 4 of this Term Healthy Harold and the Life Education Van will be visiting our school. All students will take part in a lesson where they will engage in various activities to explore ways to stay safe and healthy and to support them to confidently face the increasingly tough challenges of today. Please ensure your child’s permission note is returned to school and be sure to look out for a merchandise order form in the coming week.

Thank You

Mrs Jackie Everson (Organising Teacher)

MR QUINLIVIAN

My name is David Quinlivan and I am looking forward to working with you all at Corrimal Public School in 2019. I live in Woonona with my lovely wife and two girls who go to Woonona PS in Kindergarten and Year 1 this year. I have 8 years teaching experience with 5 of those years being at Canley Vale Public School in Cabramatta. I originally come from Ballina and have been surfing all my life. At the moment I am really enjoying teaching my daughters to swim and surf. At school my interests are passion based and enquiry based learning as well as sport and fitness. If you see me in the playground please come and say hello.

STAGE 3 CATARACT SCOUT CAMP Our camp is on this week and everyone is getting very excited. Just a reminder to be at school no later than 8.15am. Any medications need to be given to Mrs Veljanovski when you arrive, in a clear labelled zip lock bag. Strictly no lollies or nibbles allowed due to allergy reasons. No technology either! We want you to experience life without a screen or social media! Please remember to pack a raincoat and some older clothing as we are roughing it and the forecast does say a chance of rain. Thank you Mrs Veljanovski, Mrs Strauss & Mr Quinlivan

FROM THE OFFICE

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

A Statement of Account will be sent home this week for School Contribution Fee. This fee is voluntary and assists us in

providing essential resources for the students and the classroom such as exercise workbooks, new home readers, paper levy

and much more. This year the voluntary contribution will be $45.00 per family.

Payments can be made in full or by instalments and any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Please note: Stage 3 families (Years 5 & 6) may notice an opening balance on their statement of account, just know that this

is just the outstanding camp money that has come across.

Some families may also see an “unallocated credit” amount on their statement of account, this is a credit (Fee in Advance)

sitting against your child, this just means you can allocate this credit towards any school activity e.g. school excursion, PSSA.

**Credit notes cannot be used for SRC or Year 6 Fundraisers**

MAKING PAYMENTS

Payments for any school related activities (e.g. Excursions, Voluntary School

Contributions, PSSA, SRC Fundraisers and Year 6 Fundraisers) can be made by cash,

cheque or online payment system (POP) see attached instructions below. Please

If you do not have online access, payment envelopes are available at the office.

When paying by cash please ensure correct money is sent in as change is not

always available straight away. Once receipting and banking has been completed

receipts and change are sent back to the class teacher to hand back to your child.

All payments and permission slips are to be placed in our payment box located on

the wall in the office.

Please note: School uniforms are completely separate and all money goes to the
