3. Use numbers to sequence the steps/instructions.

We will learn more about imperative verbs and adverbs in the next few slides.

What is an Imperative Verb?Imperative verbs are sometimes known as bossy verbs.

They are verbs which tell you what to do.

They are often seen at the beginning of a sentence and create a command.

Let’s look at some examples…

Write today’s date.

Walk home after school.

Spot the Imperative Verbs

Go outside to play.

Spot the difference between these pictures.

Ask your dad what he thinks.

Kick the ball into the goal.

Surprise your friend to cheer them up.

Write these sentences onto your sheet and underline the imperative verb in each one.

Which Imperative Verb?Add on imperative verb to each of these commands so that they make sense. (Write on your own sheet)

Pick 5 imperative verbs from the table above and write a command for each one (on your own sheet).

What is an Adverb?An adverb is something that tells you where, why or howsomething is done. For example:

Camilla crossed the road safely.

Saffie’s horse bravely jumped over the hurdle.

The Moroccan man rode his camel everywhere.

Many adverbs end in –ly but not all of them. Similarly, not all words which end in –ly are adverbs.

Adverb DetectivesRead the following passage of text. How many adverbs can you spot?

Write the adverbs on your sheet.

In the summer holidays, Michael was happily painting a picture when his Mum asked him if he could quickly go to the shop. She wanted him to go speedily as she needed some more milk immediately. Michael cheerfully agreed because he goes to the shop regularly and enjoys riding his bike safely to get there. Michael soon set off to the shop. He was constantly checking for cars and never stopping for a break. He merrily bought the milk and enthusiastically paid the shopkeeper. Sneakily, he bought a chocolate bar to hungrily munch on his way home. He got the chocolate everywhere.

How To Plant A Sunflower Seed

What you need:• A small pot• Soil• Seeds• Watering can• Water

What you do:1.Fill the pot with soil to just below the top.2.Add a little water to the soil.3.Gently press one or two seeds into the soil.4.Cover the seeds with a small amount of soil.5.Carefully pour more water onto the soil.

Top Tip:Water the soil everyday to help your sunflower grow.

How To Make Fruit Pizzas

You will need:• 4 Digestive biscuits• Natural yoghurt• 3 – 4 different

types of fruit e.g. apple, banana, grapes, orange

• Plate• Spreading knife• Sharp knife• A grown up

What to do:1.Place 4 biscuits on the plate.2.Evenly spread the yoghurt onto each biscuit.3.Cautiously cut up the fruit into small pieces. (Ask a grown up to help you when using the sharp knife.)4.Put the fruit on top of the yoghurt.

It can be a game that you have invented yourself! Remember to write your instructions on your sheet, take a photo and send to your teacher.
