Mr. and Mrs. Henry Donovan of Lee«burg, Florida, enroute to Northern Michigan, visited Mr. and Mrs. Ben Halstead a few days last week.

Ruthann Nelson spent the holi-day week end with her grand-mother, Mrs. Arthur Nelson, while her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Nelson were away.

Mrs, Leon Lodewyk of Grand Rapids wa« a Sunday guest of her aunt, Mrs. Cora David.

Central Circle will meet Tuesday September 15 at the home of Mrs. 0 . L. Taylor, 65 S. Union. Pot-luck dinner at 12:30.

was staying a t the home of his son, Harold Miller in Muskegon, Is In Mercy Hospital for observa-tion.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Manning and daughter of Eaton Rapids, moved this week to the Baker residence on Vine St. Mr. Manning has a posi-tion with the Rotary Seal Com-pany.

Mrs. Bessie Fritz of Lansing, a former resident of Sparta, spent the week end with Mrs. Eva Ander-son, and called on other Sparta friends.

Mr. and Mrs. O. T, McCready left last week Thursday on a trip to Canada to visit relatives. They were accompanied to Capac by Mrs, Nettle Kelly of Casnovla, who visited her brother-in-law and fam-ily, until their return.

Mrs. Hazel Deem of Harrisburg visited Mrs. Lillian Parker last week Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Emory Allison en-joyed a few days vacation at the Leo Croft cottage on Brooks Lake from Thursday through the holiday week end. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Houk spent Saturday and Sunday with them.

Marjorie Sampson of Detroit spent last week end with her par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Hansen. On Saturday, Mrs. Hansen and Marjorie were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tibbe and Paula In Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Ina Weldon has been spend-ing a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Ira Good and family near Muskegon and other relatives in Muskegon.

Mr. and Mrs. George Keller and children, Philip and Darrel of Con kiln, moved to Sparta last week and are now living on Cherry St. Mr. Keller teaches at the White School and Mrs. Keller is a teach-er of 1st grade in Sparta Elemen tary.

Among the recent Sparta School graduates who will go to college within the next couple of weeks are; Sandra Wlersma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wlersma of Cherry St., who will attend Grand Rapids Junior College on a schol arshlp; Dale Vandermeer, daughter of Mrs. Garold Totten on W, Di-vision, who enters Bronson Hos-pital In Kalnmazoo to study nurs-ing; and Karen Frank, daughter of the late Otto Frank, who will use an American Legion auxiliary memorial scholarship to study nur-sing at Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Returning college students In-clude: Leslie Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs, Gray, who will return to Grand Rapids J. C. as a sophomore: Garth Gillett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Gillett, of 10-Mlle Rd., who will transfer from Grand Rapids J. C. to Western State University In Kalamazoo where he will use a scholarship lo continue his studies In education; and Jean Mary Park-er, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Leon Parker, of Harper Dr., will start her second year of nurse's training at Ford Hospital.

The Kenneth Streeters of Cher ry St., have had more than their share of bad breaks this summer. Mrs, Streeter is still convalescing from a left ankle fracture incurred in an auto accident early In the summer. Last week six-year-old Patty fractured her left collarbone when she attempted to jump through a hula hoop.

Anne Stevens of Cherry St., spent last week vacationing at the home of Carolyn Tonkin at their rural home cast of White Cloud.

Mrs. Margaret Klenk is now staying at the home of her son-ln law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Charles Lattlmer, in Grand Rapids

A mass of cars followed two am bulances and two police cars almost bumper to bumper Tuesday night when Billy and Freddy Alt wore pinned under a huge tractor. Billy 8, has been released with bruises but Freddy, 10, had stitches for nasty head Injury and Is In St Mary's hospital. Freddy, being pinned on the head with a steel shaft, just couldn't seem to breathe so Dllly, pinned by his legs, blew air In Freddy's face during the two hours that they waited for help to arrive. Oil from the overturned tractor covered the boys ho thick than their own parents, the Pat Alts of 7-Mllo Rd., wouldn't have recognized them.

Ted R turn us, Linda and Jim were In an accident last week when Ted swerved to avoid a motorcyclist cutting into traffic. Ted is all aches, Jim injured his nock, but not seri-ously, atid Linda received an arm bruise when they crashed into telephone |h>1<v The cyclist carries no Insurance, wouldn't you know?

With his eyes open, that's Don Lamoreaux of Comstock Park. It was no joke last week when Don had to keep both eyes bandaged to clear a hemorrhage In an eye injured when he was hit by a badminton birdie during a fast gome with Tom Becker.

Mrs. Theresia Cordes and Mrs. Rose Pltsch of Grand Rapids spent the entire week end with Mrs. Frank Antor, and on Monday, Min-nie and Tracy called on Mrs, Oscar Pltsch.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rusky of Hachmuth Dr., announce the birth of a daughter, Gena, on September 1.

The Sparta Jaycees are being dif ferent with a hard times dance this coming Saturday night at Creveling's Barn. The Great Lakes Polka band will play, 'Tiny" Boh-man is chairman.

Jill Brunett did it again! She set a new woman's national record the first day of a shoot at the Zep-pelin position matches held In Ak-ron, Ohio, this past week end. Then Jill competed with 120 en-trants, placing second In the Inter-national course, A score of 1080 must be attained to compete, and Jill shot 1085, losing to the winner by one point. In a team match of 80 shots In 4 positions, Jill and Keith Evans of Plymouth, Mich., established a national record of 1519.. The most amazing thing of this entire match is the other en-trants were all men, and a few boys, with Jill the only entrant of the weaker sex.

Mrs. Nicholas Bayne CrevelinR Port and pretty Jacqueline Mulder walked a flower-decked, bow-tied nisle last Saturday morning to ex-change vows with Nick Crevellng, Jackie chose a filmy gown of silk organdy, the scalloped bateau neck-line was scrolled with embroidery that merged into panels down the bodice and full hooped skirt. 6-button extensions of net compli-mented the short-sleeved bodice and the floor length skirt hid ballerina slippers, .A seed pearl ti-ara held the waist-length veil and the bride carried white carnations centered with a huge orchid. Shh, but Jackie managed her favorite color by wearing a fancy, frothy garter in blue. Sally Fettlg of Pe-toskey, mald-of-honor, Mary Kay Wilson and Marlene Babka, brides-maid;,, wore identical ballerina gowns In apple green taffeta. The bodice had a square neckline, short sleeves, and a wide cummerbund in lighter green was drawn to a large rose at the center front Green nose-length veils were top-ped with green velvet flowers and edged In velvet polka dots. Their bouquets were yellow daisies and yellow roses. Michael Babka. Car roll Telder and John Rappeleyi were Nick's supporting cost.

Mr. and Mrs. Arden Hawkins spent the week end a t Big Star Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Johnson spent one night with them there.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Fausey recent-

ly visited their son Arvln at Annap-olis, Maryland, accompanied by

their son, Duane. They were there for parents' week end August 28, 29, and 30. Arvln enrolled in the Naval Academy in July of last year. While In the east they visit-ed many places of historical In-terest. and learned many Interest-ing things about the academy and the training activities of their son, who will probably be home for a few days at Christmas time.

Mr. and Mrs, Harry Shlrey of Kent City will leave by plane Sept. 14 for Jamaica as guests of Ford Mojor Company. Kent City Motor Sales was a winner In a recent sales contest.

Darryl Harrison suffered an In-jured collar bone and cracked rib In football practice Wednesday.

On Labor Day, Mr. and Mrs. Or-vllle Emmorey called on Mr. and Mrs. Jess PIckard In En iey Cen-ter, who will soon celebrate their 55th anniversary. They also called on Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nash at Little White Fish Lake.

Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Anderson, spent the Labor Day week end at Niagara Falls.
