GET IT OUT OF THE CAMP Scripture: Joshua 7:1, 6-8; 10-13

Reference Scriptures: Deut. 7:26; Eph. 4:26-29; Eph. 5:3-4; 11

Introduction: God has always had his leader for the hour. Gods’ people were often being

oppressed and had to live in caves or in our days slums and they had to do things by night under

the cover of darkness. And all they had was their courage and faith in their God. We see in this

passage the concern of a great leader who not only tore his clothes, but lay with his face to the

earth from morning to evening before the ark on behalf of the people (a sign of morning).

I. There is not a sacrifice too great for Gods’ man/women, even in the face of the

enemy, for the people. Whether the sins are external are internal, you see Israel had

sinned, and they transgressed His covenant.

II. For they had taken some of the accursed things, stealing and deceiving one another by

putting them among their stuff.

III. Therefore because of deceit and shame they could not face their enemies.

Get It Out Of The Camp – Continuation from page 1

IV. And God said unless you destroy the accurse things from among you, you will be

doomed.

V. God asked Joshua, “Why do you lay on your face?” Get up – don’t you know the

people have sinned and they cannot survive unless you “Get It Out Of The Camp”.

VI. In our church world today the people have sinned by bringing in what God has said to

keep out of our camp.

Like: Deuteronomy 7:26 says – Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you

be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an

accursed thing.

1. What Ephesians 4:26-29 states in part- “Be angry, and do not sin, nor give place to the

devil, let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor working with his hands

and let no corrupt words proceed out of his mouth.” or

2. What Ephesians 5:3-4, 11 states in part: “But fornication and all uncleanness or

covetousness, let it not even be named among you, neither filthiness, nor foolish talking

which is not fitting, but rather giving of thanks, and have no fellowship with the

unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

VII. God is calling for the leaders of the hour to “stand up and exhort the people to get

the stuff out of the camp.” VIII. We cannot hear from God and fight our enemy with the enemy stuff in our camps.

Note: I am not here to debate how or when it got in; I’m just delivering the

message: We got to get it out.”

Note: Pride, jealous, envy and etc. are tarring and eating away at the very fabric of our

churches.

1. Permissive Spirits of all kinds are becoming common place in our society.

2. And those that the saint will one day judge or judging us when we stand on Gods’ word

against these spirits.

3. Our schools are no longer places of learning, but battle grounds for surviving.

4. Our families are being torn apart by every kind of abuse (addictions, emotional, sexual

and now economic disparity.

Summary: The solution then and the solution now is “We Got To Get It Out Of The Camp”

17. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

18. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

Her name is not “Wonder Girl” or “Bionic Woman”. In many ways, this model woman, wife,

and mother is what was expected of the BC female. All of this, without twenty-first-century

conveniences.

You will remember Proverbs 31 came from the pen and library of King Lemuel, probably

via the nudges of his mother. This “Wife of Nobel Character” was held up as a personification of

wisdom, her worth is “far above rubies.” She is her husband’s crown (12:4).

Here are her qualifications for “Woman of the Year.”

- Verse 17: She has strength and vigor.

- Verse 18: She is prudent and attentive.

- Verse 19: She is diligent and industrious.

- Verse 20: She is compassionate and merciful.

- Verse 21: She is courageous and hardworking.

- Verse 22: She is artistic and beautiful.

- Verse 23: She is cared for and satisfied.

Prayer for Our Children Taken from: The Power of a Praying Mom by Stormie Omartian

----------

Make Our Children Quick to Confess Wrongdoing

He who covers his sin will not prosper,

But whoever confess and forsakes

Them will have mercy.

Proverbs 28:13

Lord, I pray You would give our children a heart that is quick to confess their sins. May they

easily recognize them and not even try to hide them. Help them to be truly repentant of them so

that they can be forgiven and cleansed. Help them to understand that Your laws, and my rules,

are for their benefit and that the confession and repentance You require must become a way of

life. At the moment of recognition and repentance, may they say as David did, “Create in me a

clean heart, O God, and give me a right attitude” (Psalm 51:10, paraphrased). Take away all

attractions to disobedience, and put in their heart a desire to do the right thing. In Jesus’ name we

pray.

Plant Your Truth in Our Children’s Hearts

A false witness will not go unpunished

And he who speaks lies will not escape.

Proverbs 19:5

Lord, I pray You will help our children to know the difference between truth and lies. Deliver

them from any pride that makes them believe that they know better than You. I pray they will

have a teachable and submissive spirit and be able to stand strong in truth. Write Your truth in

their mind and on their heart so they always walk with a confident assurance of the rightness of

Your commands. As they learn to pray, teach them to listen for Your voice. May there always be

a Holy Spirit fire in their heart and an unwavering desire for You and Your truth. In Jesus’ name

I pray.

DEAR GOD, HELP US TO DO BETTER! Sometimes we say things that we know we need to take to heart; we ask you to remove anything

from us that is not like you; even though we know we must be willing to give them up, but we

know we are not truly ready to do so! We ask you to teach us your ways, yet we fail to study

Your Words to know what Your ways are; and even when we do study Your Words, we fail to

follow them.

Lord we say that You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, yet we fail to learn from

history so that we can learn from the good and avoid the bad. We quote things like you reap what

you sow, yet when we do bad things, we act as though we don’t understand why bad things are

happening to us!! But when we do good things, we are not surprised when things seem to be

going our way. And as a Christian we know that our good is not always repaid in the present

time; but we do know that it is seen by our God; our God who sits high and looks low. We know

that our reward is coming in His time!

Lord we say a lot of things that sound good; we preach them, we teach them, we sing them, and

we quote them (sometimes from people who are not even trying to follow Your Words), but how

serious are we trying to live them? We think that just by coming to church on Sundays and on

special occasions we have done something that will make You pleased with us – as if we did

You some sort of favor, yet as soon as we leave, we resort back to our own selfish ways and only

think about You when we need something. You want us to worship and praise You, but we

forget that it is not something You need! You just desire it; however, You said in Your Word

that if we didn’t – You would make the rocks cry out!

We say that You are Omnipresent, yet we act as if You don’t see what we are doing all the time.

Omnipresent means that He is present everywhere – all – the – time! And as a Christian isn’t

that what you want from your God?

Living under Your guidelines brings us closer to You; Let us focus on You more in our daily

walk; Let us be like You in our talk, let us be the Christians You have called us to be. Let us

present ourselves in such a way so that when others see us – who they really see is YOU! –

Amen

Editor’s Note: I wrote this prayer thinking of the things I hear and say as a Christian. Thinking

how can I do better? I could have simply titled this DEAR GOD, HELP ME TO DO

BETTER! I know that I could never come to being as perfect as Jesus Christ but I want God to

know that I am striving to be as close to him as I can be, not as close to him as you can be but as

close as I can be. This article is just me observing my life and those around me…. Not judging

those around me but observing those around me and judging myself!

LIVING UNDER JESUS’ LORDSHIP From In Touch by Charles Stanley

Philippians 2:6-11

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST – GOD’S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON – has been

given the name above all other names. Jesus has complete authority oven heaven

and earth, and He exercises that authority according to His Father’s good purposes.

Christ’s position as Lord over all of mankind will never end.

Most of the people in our world have not acknowledged Jesus’ right to rule.

They reject His lordship and do whatever they think is best. As a result, sin

abounds, wreaking havoc in the lives of many. The good news is that the Father

has a plan, which cannot be stopped. One day every person will acknowledge the

authority of Jesus. Just as God promised, all created beings in heaven, on earth,

and under the earth will kneel before Him (Phil. 2:10) – including those who have

rejected the Son of God. What a triumphant and glorious time that will be!

Even before that day, we who follow the Savior are to live with our wills

bent in submission to His. If Jesus is Lord over us, then we will acknowledge that

life revolves around Him and we exist for His purposes, not the other way around.

We’ll also make His priorities our own, giving the Lord’s plans precedence over all

others. We will furthermore confess His Lordship over us (Gal. 2:20), proclaim that

He is our Savior, and testify to what He has done for us. Our choices will reflect

the desire to be a living testimony to His lordship in our lives.

Surrendering control to Jesus Christ is the wisest decision we can make. Is

He truly Lord of your life?

The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer – the model prayer that Jesus taught His disciples (Matthew 6:5-

15; Luke 11:1-4). In the Gospel of Matthew the Lord’s Prayer occurs in the

Sermon on the Mount. He emphasized that prayer should not be an attempt to get

God’s attention by repeating words. Instead, it should be a quiet, confident

expression of needs to our heavenly Father. Our attitude in prayer is important; in

the Sermon on the Mount Jesus shows His disciples how to pray.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES Taken from: 1500 Inspirational Quotes and Illustrations

TRIALS/ADVERSITY

I need Thee. When I am lonely, forgotten, Thou art ever present. When strength fails and

when overwhelmed by weariness, Thou art the Source of inspiration and renewed

purpose to the steadfast and faithful. When confused and the answer to life’s quandary

escapes me, Thou art the Omniscient One, the all-knowing.

You are not the best Christian when you are exuberantly happy in a religious service.

You are most Christian when you are holding steady under pressure.

– Bertha Munro

Storms are foreboding but they give impetus to our faith; they encourage us to seize the

promises with a tighter grasp; they drive us to prayer and thereby closer to God.

We all seem to thrive on laughter but we grow only through tears.

– Mrs. George McGovern

Face problems, difficulties, adversities, with a positive spiritual attitude of faith, trust,

and confidence.

Step on your stumbling blocks instead of falling over them.

We must strive to transform adversity into victory.

Lord, teach us to appreciate the thorns as well as the roses.

A river never stops after a fall.

No one ever climbed a hill by just looking at it.

The stops of a good man, as well as his steps, are ordered by the Lord.

THE PSALMS

Psalm 17 King James Version (KJV)

1 Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of

feigned lips. 2

Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. 3

Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt

find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. 4

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the

destroyer. 5

Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. 6

I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my

speech. 7

Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their

trust in thee from those that rise up against them. 8

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, 9

From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. 10

They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. 11

They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; 12

Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. 13

Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy

sword: 14

From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in

this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the

rest of their substance to their babes. 15

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy

likeness.

TRIALS/ADVERSITY – Continued from page 8

During trying times don’t quit trying.

If your burdens are heavy, try kneeling under them.

Fire is a test of gold; adversity a test of a strong man.

Every difficulty is either a grindstone or a stepping stone.

Too much sunshine will ruin a crop.

If there were no difficulties there would be no triumphs!

Christians are like tea – their real strength comes out when they get into hot water.

The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping-stones is the way you use

them.

Strength comes from struggles, weakness from ease.

When everything seems to be going dead wrong, take a good look and see if you are

headed in the right direction.

Whine less; pray more.

A little talk with Jesus! How it smooths the rugged road!

Accept the bitter with the sweet and rejoice in both.

The walls of circumstance can shut us out of many things, but it is well to remember that

they only shut us in with God.

The transforming power of the gospel operates not only in conversion, in delivering from

habits, but it is a sustaining power. It gives strength to overcome adversity, to surmount

circumstances, to rise from ashes of failure, and to live in the beauty of holiness.

Hard grinds in life seem necessary. Razors can’t be sharpened on velvet!

When things go wrong, don’t go with them.

Remember – every morning is a fresh beginning.

“Right hand”: this symbolizes power.

“Apple of the eye”: something precious, to be protected.

“Shadow of thy wings”: a place of protection.

“Inclosed in their own fat”: closed off from God by their own prosperous greed.

Psalm 17 King James Version (KJV)

In this prayer for justice, probably written during Saul’s attacks against David, the psalmist asks

God to hear is honest prayer and judge between him and his enemy. The king uses legal language

to describe his appeal to God in verse 2 – he is serious about God’s judgment of his “case.”

David has confidence in God’s ruling because he has already opened his heart to his

Lord, who has searched his inmost thoughts. God knows he does not want to fall into sin and that

David looks to Him, not his own abilities, for protection. Verses 5-9 describe the defense the

psalmist needs. Verse 10 begins a section, lasting through verse 12, that outlines the

wrongdoings of David’s proud and wicked enemies, who attack like wild lions.

The psalmist looks to God for refuge, knowing that even though his enemies enjoy high

living today, it will not last. Even David did not gain the throne, the joy of His righteousness

through eternity would be victory enough.

David trusts God implicitly when he asks for judgment.

What characteristics of God that he mentions that allowed the psalmist to do

that, even though he was not perfect?

Do you trust in the same descriptions of God’s nature in scripture?

What did David ask God to do for him?

Have you needed such help from God? Did he provided it?

If so how?

FOR YOUR HEALTH

4 Ways Lack of Sleep Affects You

Not getting enough ZZZs can have serious consequences on your health and safety. Here, Clark

Meador, DO, a family medicine physician on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White All

Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth, explains four of them.

1. It slows you down “Sleep is the time when your brain recharges,” Dr. Meador says. “The

sleep-deprived individual often experiences difficulty focusing, learning and

concentrating.”

2. It contributes to accidents. Being overly tired can slow your reaction time as much as

drunk driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that

“drowsy driving” was responsible for as many as 72,000 crashes in 2013 alone.

3. It can increase your risk of other health conditions. “Consistently getting less than

seven hours of sleep a night is associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high

blood pressure, anxiety and depression,” Dr. Meador says.

4. It contributes to weight gain. A recent study found that middle-aged women with sleep

disorders were more likely to be overweight than their peers. “Chronic sleep loss also

causes the body to produce less leptin, a hormone that suppresses hunger, and too much

of ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite, “Dr. Meador says. “If you’re tired, you’re

also less likely to exercise.”

Sufficient sleep is increasingly being recognized as an essential aspect of chronic disease

prevention and health promotion. How much sleep do children need? Sleep needs vary from

person to person and change as people age. Using data from the National Sleep Foundation, the

CDC offers these sleep guidelines for different age groups.

Infants Toddlers/Children Adolescents Birth–2 months 12–18 hours 1-3 years 12-14 hours 10-17 years 8.5-905 hours

3–11 months 14–15 hours 3-5 years 11-13 hours

5-10 years 10-11 hours

Sleep Hygiene

The promotion of regular sleep is known as sleep hygiene. Here are some simple sleep hygiene

tips:

Go to bed at the same time each night, and rise at the same time each morning.

Sleep in a quiet, dark, and relaxing environment, which is neither too hot nor too

cold.

Make your bed comfortable and use it only for sleeping and not for other

activities, such as reading, watching TV, or listening to music.

Remove all TVs, computers and other "gadgets" from the bedroom.

Avoid physical activity within a few hours of bedtime.

Avoid large meals before bedtime.

WERE YOU BORN BEFORE 1945?.... IF SO, THEN YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!

If you were born before 1945:

Just think about all/the changes you have seen during your lifetime.

You were born before television, before penicillin, before polio shots, frozen

foods, Xerox, contact lenses, Frisbees and the Pill.

You were before radar, credit cards, split atoms, laser beams and ballpoint pens.

You were before pantyhose, dishwashers, clothes dryers, electric blankets, air

conditioners, drip-dry clothes and before man walked on the moon.

You got married first and then lived together. Closets were for clothes, not

“coming out of”. Bunnies were small rabbits and rabbits were not Volkswagens.

Designer Jeans were scheming girls named Jean or Jeanne, and having a

meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Fast food was what you ate during Lent, and Outer Space was back of the movie

theater. “Mane in Japan” meant junk and the term “making out” referred to how

you did on an exam. Pizza, McDonalds and instant coffer were unheard of.

You were before house-husbands, gay rights, computer dating, dual careers and

commuter marriages. You were before daycare centers, group therapy and

nursing homes.

Before1945, you never heard of FM radio, tape decks, electric typewriters,

artificial hearts, word processors, yogurt, and guys wearing earrings. You

certainly were not before the difference between the sexes was discovered, but

you were before the sex change, you made do with what you had. And you were

the last generation to think you needed a husband to have a baby

DID YOU KNOW?

The book of Jeremiah has more words than any other book in the Bible.

Jeremiah the prophet acted out many of his messages. For example, one occasion he

wears a yoke to symbolize that God expects the nations of the area to serve Babylon

(Jeremiah 27:2). Another time God tells him not to attend any any funerals or show

sympathy to the bereaved. This is to illustrate that God will have no pity on the Jews

when it comes time to punish then (Jeremiah 16:5).

The new covenant, which writers of the New Testament said replaced the hundreds of

laws that God gave Moses, is first mentioned here: “The time is coming,” declares the

Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of

Judah” (Jeremiah 31:31, New International Version). That time arrived with the death

and resurrection of Jesus, says the New Testament (Hebrews 8).

Hosea’s name, in Hebrew, is almost identical to the names of Jesus and Joshua. All three

mean” God saves.” Hosea saves his wife from slavery, Joshua saves Israel from defeat,

and Jesus saves the world from sin.

Hosea is the first of what are known as the 12 Minor Prophets. They are not “minor”

because they have unimportance messages, but because their books are much to shorter

than those of the Major Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

Some people have welcomed angels as guests, without even knowing it (Hebrews 13:2).

Examples from the Bible include Abraham (Genesis 18), Gideon (Judges 6), and Manoah

(Judges 13).

FAMOUS LINES

The Golden Rule: “Treat others as you want them to treat you” (Matthew 7:12).

Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to

you (James 4:7-8).

Be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry (James 1:19).

Faith without deeds is useless (James 2:20), James teaches that true faith isn’t kept inside;

it’s expressed through acts of kindness.

Do not repay evil for evil (1 Peter 3:9).

Loves covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

WERE YOU BORN BEFORE 1945? – Continued from page 16

Time-sharing meant togetherness, not computers or condominiums; a “chip”

meant a piece of wood not a piece of computer; hardware meant hardware, and

software wasn’t even a word.

You hit the scene when five and ten cent stores sold things for five and ten cents.

For a nickel you could buy an ice cream cone, ride a street car, make a phone

call, buy a Pepsi or enough stamps to mail one letter and two postcards.

You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600.00 but who could afford one; a pity

too, because gas was only 11 cents a gallon.

In your day, cigarette smoking was fashionable. Grass was mowed, coke was a

cold drink, Pot was something you cooked in, Rock Music was a Grandma’s

lullaby and Aids were helpers in the principal’s office.

No wonder there is so much confusion and such a generation gap today. But, YOU SURVIVED,

what more reason do you need to celebrate???

NOTABLE PEOPLE OF THE BIBLE Taken from 1,001 Things You Always Wanted to Know About the Bible

By: J. Stephen Lang

This section will give a short insight to some of the most talked about people of the

Bible. Only one or two will be covered in each Newsletter. Hope you enjoy, I’m

sure you know most if not all of them and their stories.

Paul

The great apostle began as a persecutor of Christians but after a dramatic conversion experience

became the most famous preacher of the gospel. Paul is the author of a large chunk of the New

Testament: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2

Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. All these epistles are earlier than any other

parts of the New Testament, and probably 1 and 2 Thessalonians are earliest of all.

Paul was a Roman citizen, and like many Jews with Roman citizenship, he had two

names, Saul (his Jewish name) and Paul. Since he was called to be “apostle to the Gentiles,” he

went by the name of Paul. Much of the book of Acts is the story of Paul.

----------

Micah

The prophet Micah is most noted for his prophecy of a great ruler being born in the small town

of Bethlehem (5.2). The early Christians believed, of course, that this ruler Jesus. Micah’s most-

quoted words are in 6:8, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD

require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

---------

Mark

“John, also called Mark” is mentioned several times in the New Testament. Tradition says he

was author of the second (and shortest) Gospel and a companion of the apostle Peter, who would

have been his chief source of information about Jesus. Acts 12 mentions Peter in the house of

Mark’s mother, where a Christian fellowship met. Mark later accompanied Paul and Barnabas as

an “assistant” in their missionary work (Acts 13:5). Something he did displeased Paul (we don’t

know what), and Paul refused to take him on a later missionary journey (Acts 15:37). Later he

and Paul reconciled. His closeness to Peter is obvious when Peter referred to him as “Mark my

son” (1 Peter 5:13).
