IntroductionO R2D2 model for online learning activities –
cycle of Read, Reflect, Display and Do.O Collaborative and active learning
experiences in a blended spaceO Questionnaire – evaluate four learning
activitiesO Analysis suggests that the results were
favourable/ positive commentsO Assist the learning of academic skills for
vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation, note taking and presentations.
Applying R2D2
ORead
O Each week, students learn 30 academic
words.
O Multimedia application (Blackboard LMS)
O click on each word in order to see it written,
hear it spoken and see and hear the word used
O Finally, students practise pronunciation and
use them in academic sentences.
OReflect
O record audio file using recorder and post
the audio files in the discussion forum
O Facilitator - provides feedback to each
student and encourage usage of questions
(metacognitive skills)
O Students – listen, reflect and provide
feedback
ODisplay
O Students learn how to use MSPowerPoint.
O Facilitator - scaffolds the learning process by
leading an analysis of the design
O Blog - containing visual based learning
activities, examples and links about the
topic, is provided for students to utilise
O Students - expected to learn and apply
Internet search skills to find and share
resources
ODo
O Apply in real-life situation
O E.g - investigate options for further study at University.
Use
O MSPowerPoint to present
O Students - organise themselves into groups according
to students with similar future study plans. Use Internet
and every group member must speak
O Rubric – provided to measure learning outcomes and
guide students
O Summative assessment - presentation and note taking
Conclusion
O The model has emphasised a
learning process which places the
student at the centre of the design
process enabling them to be
engaged in the active processes of
Reading, Reflecting, Displaying and
Doing.
