Show your athletes some love…

ChronoTrack

Stand out from the pack

❖ As a race director, it’s really

important to say thanks. The

more successful you are at

expressing your appreciation,

the more special you’ll make

your participants feel. Let your

participants know that you

understand it took time and

money to get to your event, and

you think they’re awesome for

it.

A firm handshake goes a long way

❖ Walk the start and/or finish lines

and shake hands with your

athletes.

Mom always said, “say thank you”

❖ Send random, personal emails

(yes, from yourself) to people

who have registered, to say

thank you for choosing your

race.

Make it personal

❖ Gather personal stories from

your athletes to promote and

share with your community.

Talk to local news channels if

you find a good human interest

story they might pick up.

❖ Use interns/volunteers for

help.

Use that megaphone

❖ Give race day shout-outs by

looking up names associated

with bib numbers and name-

dropping people at the start and

finish line, thanking them for

being there and wishing them

luck. That PA system shouldn’t

just be used for sponsor plugs.

Special awards

❖ Give special awards for the

“Furthest Traveled” participant,

“Youngest/Oldest” participant,

or maybe even the last person

to cross the finish line.

Good food goes a long way

❖ Local hot pizzas delivered to

the finish line

❖ Hot Chocolate 15k/5k =

finisher’s mug with chocolate

fondue, dippable snacks and

hot chocolate

❖ Food trucks at the finish

Involve the locals

❖ World Famous Mud Run on

Camp Pendleton solicits the

Marines to staff the event and

“encourage” athletes along the

course.

Kids say the darndest things

❖ Kids from local schools can

write letters to finishers

congratulating them. They learn

about getting active, your

athletes feel the love.

Charity involvement

❖ Local or national charity

involvement makes everyone

feel loved.
