Through education, people can rise up from their present situation and

Reading should be taken for granted; everyone deserves the right to be literate. If schools have access to books, students have a greater chance of being interested in books and becoming literate.

Process of the REad-A-thon ProjectAll the students in the Sixth Grade watch the introductory video about the project

Homebase teachers hand out letters and forms to each student.

The students (hopefully!) hands the letters out to their respective parents.

The students make a pledge on how many minutes/hours they will spend reading (in total)

Students collect sponsors to ‘sponsor’ them (anybody in the community is welcome to sponsor)

Students read and read until they reach their specified target

Students then collect money from their sponsors

Students then on the final week hand in the money with the forms to their respective homebase teacher.

What is the teachers’ role?As teachers, please encourage the students to read actively in class or out of class.

The homebase teachers, on the final day, are requested to hand all their students’ forms to Ms. Veronica.
