MANAGING A LESS STRESSFUL CHECK-IN• Move-In Instructions…arrive during your designated check-in day and time period and report

directly to your residential college after parking in one of the short-term parking areas - refer to the Move-In Parking Map on the Housing & Residential Life website (www.miami.edu/housing) for specific locations.

Proceed to your residential college reception desk/lobby area to check-in New freshmen living in Hecht & Stanford will take their ‘Cane Card pictures and have their

card encoded to open their electronic room door locks New freshmen and transfers living in Eaton can have their ‘Cane Card made in Hecht or

Stanford as well as the University Center Once checked into your room, you can check out a luggage cart in the lobby area to assist

with moving in your belongings as you unload your vehicle

MANAGING A LESS STRESSFUL CHECK-IN (continued)*Parking note: Once you have completed your unloading, please move your vehicle to one of the designated long-term parking areas in one of the three (3) garages - refer to the Move-In Parking Map for specific locations.

• Welcome Stations…to assist those moving into Hecht and Stanford residential colleges, there will be "Welcome Stations" located throughout the short-term parking areas. Each tented "Welcome Station" will: Be staffed by trained University employees and student assistants Provide information and answer questions you may have Distribute water Serve as a shuttle stop for those needing assistance moving in or returning to Hecht and

Tuesday, August 20

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.New Student and Parent Orientation Check-in Student Activities Center, Activities Room, 3nd Floor • Orientation check-in is held over two days (8/20 and 8/21) at the Student Activities Center.• Banks and other vendors (Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Verizon, Car2Go, etc.) at the University Center.• All new first-year and transfer students must check-in for the orientation program.• Students receive orientation materials, group assignment and meeting location. • Parents that are participating in the Parent Orientation may also check-in at this time.• Please note that Transfer Student Orientation begins at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 20; first-year students

and their parents please avoid checking in between 1:30pm – 3:00pm on this day. • First-year commuter students are encouraged to check-in on Wednesday, August 21st. • Varsity athletes will be checked in for the new student orientation program during their pre-orientation

program and do not need to check-in during this time.

’Cane Cards• New students will have the opportunity to pick-up their University ID card (‘Cane

Card) when they arrive on campus. Those new students living in Eaton, Hecht, or Stanford Residential College will take their ‘Cane Card picture and receive it when checking in for housing. All other students living on campus or off campus will take their ‘Cane Card picture and receive it in the University Center, International Lounge (2nd Floor). Picture stations will be available Tuesday and Wednesday, August 20th & 21st, from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Please note: For security reasons, your picture will be taken at this time and your card will be issued to you immediately in person. Therefore, please be prepared to have your picture taken.

3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Transfer Student Orientation SessionStudent Activities Center, Center Ballroom, 3rd Floor • Orientation leader will guide you during your first days on campus, meet other new students.• Information about campus services and programs most relevant to transfer students will be provided. • A light reception will be provided for transfer students at the conclusion of the first day.

1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Parent Orientation Session for Parents of Transfer StudentsStudent Activities Center, West Ballroom, 3rd Floor • This session provides parents of transfer students that are unable to attend the formal Parent Orientation

program with a condensed version of the program. Representatives from university departments and academic units will be available to present information and answer questions.

about academic advising, course scheduling and services. Times and locations vary. You may check-in for the new student orientation program before or after your academic dean’s meeting.

1 p.m. to 5 p.m.Interest Sessions for Transfer Students • Various interests sessions will be presented to provide additional information about transitioning to the

University of Miami.
