TAARE ZAMEEN PAR – DRAWING COMPETITION

We meet every Saturday at 9.00 a.m. at Phadke Hall, Dadar Bhagini Samaj, Hindu Colony, Dadar, Mumbai 400 014 2nd Issue Year 2016-17

DG Gopal Mandania in the pratham year of District 3141 came out with the idea of running Drawing Competition across the district. August month was designated to conduct the competitions in various schools. Camlin sponsored the crayons / colour requirements while drawing paper was sponsored by Rtn. Hemang Jangla, RC Bombay Seacoast. RCMM organized drawing competition at five different school…………. 1. Canossa School at Mahim, Lead taken by Rtn. Seema 2. D S School at Sion, Lead taken by Rt. Rajan 3. Kamala Mehta School for Visually Impaired at Wadala, Lead taken by Rtn.

Pradnya 4. Sulabha School for Differently abled children, Lead taken by Rtn. Abhishek 5. Premier School at Matunga, Lead taken by Rtn. Abhishek

Overall three groups were formed as children from KG, Primary and Secondary sections. Topics for the drawings were proposed by Camlin like – My Toys for sr. KG, Favourite Park for Std. I & II, My Hobbies for Std. III & IV, City Traffic for Std. V & VI, Dream Art Room for Std. VII & VIII. At Canossa School, participation was 3000 plus. Ruia College and King Circle Matunga Rotaractors helped all out under able guidance of Rtn. Seema. All the members and Rotaractors had very exciting and pleasing experience. Challenge at Kamala Mehta School was different as students are visually impaired. It’s heartening to watch them colour the pictures. Sulabha School, students are differently able and they did have difficulty in understanding the topic of drawing itself. In spite of the difficulty, twelve students participated. At RCMM we have decided on prizes based on the number of participation to encourage the students instead of just first three. It was quite a mammoth task on going through each and every drawing and selecting first few. Vanaja, Rtn. Nita, Rtn. Pramod, Rtn. Neelima and Vidula did the job very meticulously and provided the results.

CSR INITIATIVE AT TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

We meet every Saturday at 9.00 a.m. at Phadke Hall, Dadar Bhagini Samaj, Hindu Colony, Dadar, Mumbai 400 014 2nd Issue Year 2016-17

For last two years RCMM is putting in extra effort to bring worthy Donors and Needy Recipients on a common platform to address pressing needs of the Society. Tata Memorial hospital is doing yeoman service in providing state of the art medical care to the cancer afflicted patients irrespective of their financial capability or social status. To further enhance the service, they are in need of Donors who contribute to this cause. ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions who as part of their CSR activities have been generously contributing to this noble cause and last year they contributed in providing catheters for curing children afflicted with cancer of the Retina. The results have been over whelming good and with a success rate of 80% a large section of the children have been restored with the precious gift of sight. Spurred by the success and the urgent need to reach out to the community RCMM was in deep dialogue with Tata Memorial to identify such projects which are worthy and satisfy the stringent norms of TKISI. RCMM played a vital role as a catalyst to ignite the reaction to bring a worthy donor and donee together. At a simple but elegant function in the presence of the senior doctors of Tata Memorial, RCMM members, our own Rtn Prakash Samudra, CEO of TKISI handed over the following equipments to Tata Memorial Hospital; Ultrasound Aspirator: removes cancerous tissues delicately without affecting the nearby organs, used in brain, liver and other soft surgery procedures. Cost of the equipment is Rs. 28 lakhs. This will greatly benefit large numbers of patients with minimal side effects and give the surgeon a much better control on the surgical procedures. Inter-operative nerve monitor and cortical Stimulator: Helps in mapping nerve activity during surgery helping the surgeon to precisely focus on these areas where the cancer is embedded without affecting other nerves and also have feedback on the actual functioning of the nearby nerves during surgery. Cost of the equipment is Rs.1 7lakhs. ROTEM: It is used for checking bleeding abnormalities and coagulation properties of the blood to decide on the line of medication. Chemo Therapy causes changes in the blood coagulation properties and this instrument helps in quick diagnosis of the coagulating capacity of the blood. Cost of the equipment is Rs.10 lakhs

RCMM has also helped in an indirect way in spreading the message to reach out and contribute to Society. Two very distinct messages came out during the function, by Dr. D’cruz, director of TMH: “I rate my doctors not only by their professional excellence but also their inner desire and compassion to assess pressing needs and employ their talents to indentify right equipment and reach out donors and Service Providers(like RCMM) to make it happen” By Rtn. Prakash Samudra, CEO of TKISI “CSR activities have generated an upspring in enthusiasm in the employees of TKISI to give back to Society and serve a good cause. I thank TMH and RCMM to give our company such an opportunity which goes far beyond the duty to just satisfy Govt stipulations on CSR. In the coming year this cooperation between the Service Partners will be enhanced further.

Gurupurnima Celebration A Teacher has a venerated role to play for the growth of a Nation. Teachers mould minds of youth and make them fit for being good citizens, contributing to the well being of the community, society and nation at large. In India the teachers are respected next to GOD and to mark the gratitude of the students, we have a special day called-Gurupurnima when the grateful students pay their respects and acknowledge the contribution made by their teachers. Shri Kamlesh Kadam is one such Teacher who through his Institutions-Kinnar Sangeet Sadhana has been so many years imparting the gift of music to all, not just the privileged or the talented but also to weaker section of society.

This selfless gift by Kamlesh Kadam cuts across social and economic barriers and seamlessly touches the heart and minds of his learners. Every year the students of the Sadhana celebrate Gurupurnima day with an evening of music and dance. This year function was held on 14th August,2016. Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim with its motto to serve and touch the Community around, assists the Sadhana by a small contribution every year. More importantly it recognises the efforts and services of dedicated people like Mr.Kadam. TheSadhana on its part duly acknowledges the gesture of RCMM and even puts up a banner to this effect. Members of RCMM attended the function and were honoured by the Sadhana. We also took this occasion to remember Late Rtn. Vinayak Sahasrabudhe, who was instrumental in getting RCMM in touch with the Sadhana.
