It’s hard to believe that it’s already been almost a year since our last sale. Within this year we have been filled with pleasure and big smiles in seeing the cattle market for all breeds hold itself strong and all of our customers getting rewarded for all of their hard work and long hours - you all truly deserve this and we couldn’t be happier ! We are very excited about the sires we will have on offer on March 10th as they are quite a group. Consistent with our ongoing 100% A.I breeding program these bulls have smooth frames with lots of muscle and guts, overall performance and calving ease. They have all been vaccinated and been kept on a monitored feed program to ensure they are in optimal health. As we have done in the past, for anyone who isn’t ready to take the bull home from the sale, we offer to bring the bulls back to our farm and feed them at no charge to you as well as deliver them to you at no charge in the coming April. Please feel welcome to visit us and view the bulls at our place prior to sale day or to call us if you need any further information. Here’s the round up on the exciting Registered Purebred

Charolais genetics we have on offer this year:

Roundup: Roundup is a smooth solid bull. He is a calving ease bull that produces thick, deep, hairy calves with impressive weaning weights. A fair majority of this years calves were sired by Roundup as we are so impressed with all he has to offer.

Pilgrim: Pilgrim is a performance oriented bull - he sports lots of muscle and power. He is also heterozygous polled.

Sir Gridmaker: Sir Gridmaker is a well balanced sire with lots of depth and natural muscle. His genetic traits include calving ease. We have continued to be more and more impressed by what this sire can do.

Smokester: Smokester’s sire, Cigar, was an amazing performance bull and Smokester has followed in his footsteps.

Cooley Royce: Cooley Royce is a moderate, stout, powerful bull.

Monument: Monument sports a wide deep base made with tons of natural muscle. His offspring come with tons of hair, lots of guts and mus-cle.

Canyon: Canyon is a great bull sporting a nice big hip, good top and very smooth front end providing his offspring with exception epd’s.

Rally: Rally is the sire of two of our red factor bulls. Rally has good length, smoothness, easy calving, really good testicular development traits and overall performance - the reasons we have continued to use him as our red fac-tor AI sire.

What is an EPD? An EPD (Expected Progeny Differences) is a prediction of future progeny performance for an animal when randomly mated to an infinite number of cattle.

EPD's provide a genetic description for an animal for their traits [i.e. birth weight, weaning weight, milk, yearling weight, etc.]. EPD's are expressed in the actual units of measure for a given trait. As an example, EPD's for traits such as birth weight (BW), weaning weight gain (WW), and yearling weight (YW) are expressed in pounds.

It is important to remember though that EPD's should only be used as a guideline to assist you with your selection as although they are based on reliable criteria they can only provide a likely probability of what the offspring will be like.

2015 Charolais breed average EPD's:

In the Charolais breed if the birth weight (BW) EPD is above +1.7 (the current year’s breed average) he will be more likely to sire calves bigger than the breed average. If below +1.7 he will be more likely sire calves smaller than the breed average.

If the weaning weight (WW) EPD is higher than 42.9 (the current year’s breed average) he will be more likely to sire calves heavier than breed average at weaning. If below 42.9 he will be more likely to sire calves that are smaller than breed average at weaning.

A couple of suggested rules....

-Use EPD's only as one of many selection tools -Don't compare them across breeds as each breed has it's own base and breed average(s)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It is very important to note that along with genetics, the size of the fetus and calving ease are also determined by nutrition / feed, the size, condition and age of the cow or heifer at calving time and the length of gestation.

This sale is CCA certified

All breeding guarantees and auction practices will be as outlined in the CCA Code of Ethics.

TERMS: Terms of the sale are cash or cheque and is payable in Canadian funds at sale location. No cattle shall be released before settlement is made and sale management reserves the right to demand a certified cheque before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for purchase, management reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage. Either publicly or privately. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses, shall be payable by the defaulter.

BIDS: Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. An insurance broker will be available sale day. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The owners, staff, and sellers assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for property loss or for any incidents that may occur.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by the auctioneer at sale time and will take precedence over the printed matter in catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Proper Registration or Recordation paper will be provided to the buyer after settlement has been made. CCA will transfer the records.

BREEDING GUARANTEE: Should any bull under the age of fourteen months or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows, known to be breeders, the matter should be reported to the seller within six months of purchase. The seller will then have the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. This is providing the bull has been maintained in satisfactory breeding condition.
