Notification Letter for Parents or Guardians

The Neshaminy School District uses an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach for managing insects, rodents and weeds. Our goal is to protect every student from pesticide exposure by using an IPM approach to pest management. Our IPM approach focuses on making the school building and grounds an unfavorable habitat for these pests by removing food and water sources and eliminating their hiding and breeding places. We accomplish this through routine cleaning and maintenance. We routinely monitor the school building and grounds to detect any pests that are present. The pest monitoring team consists of our building, office, and teaching staff and includes our students. Pest sightings are reported to our IPM contractor who evaluates the “pest problem” and determines the appropriate pest management techniques to address the problem. The techniques can include increased sanitation, modifying storage practices, sealing entry points, physically removing the pest, etc.

From time to time, it may be necessary to use pesticides registered by the Environmental Protection Agency to manage a pest problem. A pesticide will only be used when necessary, and will not be routinely applied. When a pesticide is necessary, the school will try to use the least toxic product that is effective. Applications will be made only when unauthorized persons do not have access to the area(s) being treated. The Schedule for all Neshaminy School District monthly IPM services will be posted in all Main Office sites throughout the year. Staff and parents or guardians of students enrolled in the school may request prior notification of specific pesticide applications made at the school. To receive notification, you must be placed on the school’s notification registry. If you would like to be placed on this registry, please send a letter to the Neshaminy School District Facilities Department, 2001 Old Lincoln Highway, Langhorne, PA 19047 If a pesticide application must be made to control an emergency pest problem, notice will be provided via the Neshaminy School District web site and postings in the site’s Main Office. Exemptions to this notification include disinfectants and antimicrobial products; self-containerized baits placed in areas not accessible to students, and gel type baits placed in cracks, crevices or voids; and swimming pool maintenance chemicals. If you have any questions, please contact the Facilities Office at 215-809-6250.

The second marking period ended on January 29th

for our 1st through 5

th

grade students. Hard copies of students’ progress reports will not be sent home as has been past practice. Instead, progress reports can be viewed on line through the “Home Access Center”. You can also check your child’s attendance and, if you choose, make changes to contact and emergency information. If you have forgotten or misplaced your user name and/or password, please send an email to our Everitt secretaries ([email protected] or [email protected] ). If you choose, you may also send in a note (parent signature required) with your child and we will send the login and password home with them.

THE OLYMPICS ARE COMING, THE OLYMPICS ARE COMING!!

In honor of the winter Olympics our Physical Education classes have held an

Olympic event of their own. Gaining interest in the various physical activities

that children can do is important to my program. Physical Education isn’t just

football, soccer, basketball, etc. It’s has a wide variety of activities including

various dances. The Olympic activities are used as a program to also introduce

the classes to our team building/challenge adventure unit. During this unit our

students will be learning how to read a problem, come up with a number of

solutions, try the solutions, and problem solve to make the idea work better.

The unit lasts six to eight weeks. After the Challenge Adventure program grades k-5 will be participating in

the dance curriculum. More on that later.

Remember, with this cold weather the area waterways are iced over. Please use caution when venturing out

on the ice. The local parks will usually have flags out. A red flag means the ice is unsafe and a green flag

means it’s safe to walk on the ice. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some ice fishing!

Mr. Krayer

First Grade News

Thank you Neshaminy and Middletown Police Department!

In keeping with the district’s safe schools initiatives, daily foot patrols by officers of the Middletown Twp. Police Department began on January 20th. Everitt has been receiving visits on a daily basis by officers assigned to the day shift in the areas of respective schools. These visits are intended to provide a sense of security and assist the officers with getting to know better the layouts of the schools in case they have to respond there in an emergency.

Professor Ladanoze and his son,

Junior came to Everitt to visit the

First Grade. They did an

experiment to show how Arctic

animals use blubber to keep

warm in the frozen temperatures.
