Action on Screen Narration Powerpoint slide with reading plus logo Welcome to this overview of our program Reading Plus. With the completion of Reading Plus being a weekly grade, I wanted to show you exactly what your child is doing in this program. Reading Plus is a web-based program, so you can access it anywhere you have the internet—desktop, laptop, iPad, Kindle Fire, iPhone. Simply type in “login.readingplus.com Once on this page, select Student Login. Once you click that, the student login screen should load. Student username and password are the same as their student computer login: first name and last name with no space is their username, and their password is their 505 student number. As you can see here, I am using a recently withdrawn student to give you a student’s view of the program. This is the student dashboard. There are three lessons in the middle: iBalance, SeeReader, ReadAround. The boxes to the right of the lesson names represent how many lessons a student must complete each week. As you can see, this student has five iBalance lessons, six SeeReader lessons, and five ReadAround lessons to complete every week for a total of 16 lessons. SeeReader is the most important and most time-consuming, so let’s start there. Notice in the upper lefthand corner it tells them to work on getting an 80% or higher. That is their goal. Two lessons where 80% or more is achieved is a combo. Combos are recorded at the bottom, and if you notice, they need a certain amount of combos to unlock and move to the next level. Students can pick the story they want to read. I can click “go on” to continue with the story, or “go back” to choose another story. I am going to click “go on.” It begins with a hook, and I need to press the spacebar to continue. I press the spacebar again and the story begins.

Powerpoint slide with reading plus logoWelcome to this overview of our program Reading Plus. With the completion of Reading Plus being a weekly grade, I wanted to show you exactly what your child is doing in this program.

Reading Plus is a web-based program, so you can access it anywhere you have the internetdesktop, laptop, iPad, Kindle Fire, iPhone. Simply type in login.readingplus.com

Once on this page, select Student Login. Once you click that, the student login screen should load.

Student username and password are the same as their student computer login: first name and last name with no space is their username, and their password is their 505 student number. As you can see here, I am using a recently withdrawn student to give you a students view of the program.

SeeReader is the most important and most time-consuming, so lets start there.

I can click go on to continue with the story, or go back to choose another story. I am going to click go on.

It begins with a hook, and I need to press the spacebar to continue.

I press the spacebar again and the story begins.

To read the story, I follow the white tracking bar across the page. It reveals the words to me at a set speed. We call that speed words-per-minute. This helps their fluency.

Clicking the spacebar pauses the story; pressing the spacebar resumes the story. I need to read carefully, because I will have to answer comprehension questions.

It breaks up the package and checks for understanding. I will answer it and press the go on button and then press the spacebar to continue reading.

Here I am continuing to read the story.

At the end, I can rate the story.

Now comes the comprehension questions. My progress is tracked in the upper right corner, as I answer each question.

Whoops, wrong answer! Now they let me re-read the section for partial credit.

If I still get it wrong, it shows me the answer in the text, and I select the correct answer. I have gotten it wrong though.

THis page summarizes how I did, including my score. It gives me a choice to do another lesson, and for now, Im going to click no and go back to my dashboard.

Now we will work on some vocabulary words.

I will click start to begin.

I flash the word, catch a glimpse of it, and then select the correct meaning from the choices. I then click go on.

Now that I got the definition right, I have to pick two sentences where the word is used correctly.

Once I select the sentences, I click check me, and if its right, I earn points. Look in the lower right to see how many points I earned. I work on this lesson until I earn 60 points. I will click go on to do one more word, and it starts over.

Im going to take a break from ReadAround, but if I click back in, it takes me right to where I left off.

Lets check out iBalance. In iBalance, you have two activities: flash and scan. To complete one of my five lessons for this week, I need to earn 120 points.

Let's start with flash.

This page tells me that I need to press the spacebar. When I do that, a group of letters will appear. I need to pay attention, because to earn points, I have to quickly type in the letters that I sawcorrectly.

The letters flashed, and now I type them in and hit enter.

Green is good. Red letters are the ones that I missed. If the whole box is green, I got it correct. Its not as easy as it looks.

After two flash lessons, I start the scan activity in iBalance. Im going to click the s button in the bottom right.

Scan is like a game. Students eyes follow the white bar across the screen from left to right watching the rings carefully to find one that is open slightly. When you see the open ring, you hit the spacebar and earn points.

Green is good; red means I missed. The speed of the bar is slightly faster than the SeeReaders speed to encourage growth.

I continue with scan until I earn 120 points and complete this iBalance lesson.

I'm going to click no and return to my dashboard.

Now you see white check marks in one box for SeeReader and one for iBalance. That represents one lesson completed in each activity. Under the green lesson bars, I am told how much time I have left to complete this weeks assignments.

I'm going to take a break because Reading Plus is a lot of workbut good work that builds valuable reading skills. Thank you for taking the time to explore this program with me.
