Daily minyan is a fundamental aspect of synagogue life. Help to assure that we have a minyan each time by joining the minyan WhatsApp group. Those in the group receive periodic reminders of minyan times as well as requests to come when we are short. Come when you can. Join the group to make sure those saying kaddish and others have a minyan. Email or text your cell # to Rabbi Gelman if you wish to join and download the WhatsApp app.

Rabbi Gelman is starting a new WhatsApp group. Rabbi Gelman will be sending out a weekly inspirational message or link. Please text Rabbi Gelman at 713 922 2473 indicating that you would like to join the UOSInspiration WhatsApp group. Make sure you have a WhatsApp account.

Register Now ! Talia is the most thoughtful person I know. She is always thinking of others and is a friend to all. Talia is a student at the Emery Weiner Middle School. She has competed on the girls soccer team and on the track team for the past two years. Talia has been in the school musical for the past two years for both The Little Mermaid and The Seussical Musical. She was nominated for the People to People Leadership program for which she attended a special leadership seminar and conference in Washington,

D.C. Talia has been taking art at school for the past two years. Last year there was an Art Card Contest for which the admin-istration selected one work of art for each grade level; the art-work that Talia had created was the one selected as their favorite for her entire grade and was then made into Emery Art Cards. This past year Talia had been accepted for the Duke Talent Initiative Program. Talia has been a member of the Jew-ish Life Club as well as the Kind Club for the past two years and was elected for the Student Council position of Vice President for this academic year; making her the only female in Student Council. In addition to all of this, Talia loves to read and bake. We are so proud of the hard work she has put into the preparation for her D’var Torah. Talia, we are wishing you a hearty Mazel Tov!!

UOS is proud to be one of the community participants in the Houston Jewish Community Foundation’s Create a Legacy Program. As a participant we are planning for the future of our congregation by asking our members to make plans for a legacy gift to UOS. There are several ways this can be accomplished, but we first ask for a Letter of Intent, indicating your support. The form is available in the office. Brochures are available in the foy-er, and the members of this committee are anxious to speak with you; they are Nada Chandler (713-256-1030), Joe Blog (713-530-5337) and Basil Joffe (713-302-6691). Feel free to contact them for more information. Our goal is to have a very large percentage of our members partic-ipate and we look forward receiving the completed Letter of Intents send to the office. Please do not assume that someone else will help us reach this goal – it is up to you! Please note that you may designate one of the oth-er participating organizations, as well as designating UOS.

For more information, please see our web site at http://www.uosh.org/uoslegacy.html
