Members of the group: Agata Borowiec, Monika Firych, Agnieszka Grygiel, Olga Wierzchowska

The topic of social campaign:

The problem of caffeine addiction basing on the intake of coffee and energy drinks.

Introduction:

One of the tasks for current Comenius program was connected with preparing a social campaign for the students from our school.

The aim of the project:

The objective of the task was to prepare a social campaign basing on the students’ need from Paderewski Private Grammar School in Lublin. By means of the campaign we wanted to highlight the adverse effects related to the intake of large amount of caffeine. Moreover, we desired to make the students aware of possible health problems and the amount of the stimulant present in the most popular drinks.

Selection of the topic:

We have been given an opportunity to create the campaign of the topic that suits us the most. In order to carry out the social campaign that will attract students’ attention, we decided on carrying out the survey with propositions for the project. Members of the school chose the wide topic connected with addictions. Basing on their choice, we made a brain storm on specific subject of the project. From many ideas we selected the problem dear to our students- the addiction to caffeine related to drinking coffee and energy drinks.

Way of preparing the social campaign:

After selection of the topic we decided on the form of the campaign. Basing on our observations and experience, we chose the set of posters with some pieces of information and suitable graphic arts that would be present in various places in the school. Furthermore, we decided on creating the campaign in both Polish and English. The materials for the campaign consisted of 9 small posters with the set of specific scientific knowledge, the statistics and curiosities and two large posters with basic information about caffeine. There was also the scale showing the amount of the stimulant present in most popular drinks.

The division of the tasks:

In order to carry out the project successfully, we divided the tasks in the following order:

Preparing the content for the posters, collecting knowledge, translating the content into English- Agata Borowiec, Monika Firych

Designing and creating posters for the campaign, arranging the information and graphic arts on the posters- Agnieszka Grygiel, Olga Wierzchowska

Plan and the procedure:

After choosing the theme and way of preparing the campaign, members of the team focused on collecting appropriate knowledge basing on scientific materials and resources. The rest of the group concentrated on creating designs for the posters and arranging the knowledge with the suitable graphic arts.

The content of the posters:

The most important knowledge found in our posters is related to the adverse effects connected with the large intake of caffeine that is found in coffee and various soft drinks. Furthermore, we presented ideas of how to replace caffeine, what are current statistics for the stimulant and possible health complications that can appear as a result of the addiction.

The design for the posters:

The small posters were arranged as a cup of coffee with large title “Do you know...” to attract students’ attention. The huge ones had a scale with the amount of caffeine in the most popular drinks and the most important basic information about the stimulant.

The outcome of the project:

The last stage of our work was printing and hanging out the posters in appropriate places. The posters found in the school are in Polish. Nevertheless, there are also posters in English version available in the electronic way. Materials were hanged out in places like library, canteen, machine with soft drinks in order to reach a vast amount of the students. The result of our work can be seen on the pictures presented below.
