THE PROGRAMThe Academy began in 2004 and currently enrolls freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Preset course schedules not only reflect N.C. graduation standards, but also incorporate Honors and AP courses in the student-selected specialized area of the Advanced Sciences or Education strand. Fifteen credits of the total coursework are comprised of academy-designated classes in order for the student to graduate Southern Guilford’s Academy.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?Highly motivated rising ninth-grade students who are interested in a rigorous academic and technical program that leads to future careers in education or advanced sciences are excellent candidates for the program. This opportunity is available to all students within the Southern High attendance zone, in addition to 60 magnet students throughout Guilford County.

HOW WILL STUDENTS BE SELECTED?All interested rising ninth-grade students living outside the Southern High attendance zone must apply for admission through the magnet school application process. Students selected must live in Guilford County, where every reasonable effort will be made to provide transportation. Sixty magnet seats will be available for each grade. A waiting list will be produced if needed.
