SOAP is an extension of the Outdoor Leadership Program atSouthern Adventist University and is the university communitys re-
source for adventure programming. SOAP provides guided back-
packing, rafting, caving, rock climbing, horseback riding, canoeing,
and camping trips that range from single day trips around Chatta-
nooga to weekend trips around the southeast to week-long trips
across the country. Instructional clinics are offered throughout theyear for outdoor recreation enthusiasts to learn a variety of wil-
derness survival skills. SOAP is a great way to meet new friends,
learn new skills, and have fun in a Christian environment, all in the
GREAT OUTDOORS.
Southern is located in an incredible area for outdoor adventure. In2011 Chattanooga was voted #1 for coolest places to live in the
United States by Outside Magazine.
When you look at the numbers, Chattanooga has the right to brag.
It has more rock climbing routes within the city limits than the
whole county of Boulder, CO. The Chattanooga area also has over
10,000 caves within a 100-miles radius, including the 10 deepestcaves in North America. If you aren't really into heights or being
underground, Smoky Mountain National Park is only a two hour
drive from campus offering some of the most beautiful views in the
Southeast. If you like your nature experience with a side of speed
then take a ride down some of the area's world-class whitewater or
hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails. The list goes on and theopportunities for adventure are endless!

WHAT ABOUT SABBATH?
I HAVE SIGNED UP, NOW WHAT?
DIFFICULTY SCALE
WHERE IS THE OEC?
The Great Outdoors is a great place to spend Sabbath. You may chooseto bring a Bible or maybe even a guitar and come listen to the voice ofthe Lord without your everyday distractions. In order to advance in ourdiscipleship, Jesus still invites his followers to retreat at times. There isan advantage in placing physical distance between our bodies and ourresponsibilities in order to re-energize our life with Christ.
The week of the trip, your trip leader will contact you via email with a list
of necessary items and information for your trip. All overnight tripswillhave a mandatory pre-trip meetingwhere you will get a run-downof your trip and learn about any gear that you may need. SOAP providesall gear needed for the activity in exchange for a small deposit, except fora sleeping bag which has a $5 rental fee. (See Gear Rental web page formore information.)
Even though all of our trips require no previous experience, some trips dorequire a little more sweat equity be invested.
The Outdoor Education Center (OEC) is located on University Drive justbefore the University Health Center if campus is behind you. Look for thebuilding with the hanging wooden canoe and the GIANT climbing tower.
Anyone can do it. Just get off thecouch and come along!
You should probably be active
and fairly comfortable being out-doors.
Be ready for a challenge. Goodphysical condition is preferred.
