Celebrating 92 Years
1923 - 2015
Drawing from the treasures of the Gospel and Roman Catholic Church teaching,
we commit ourselves to be living examples of a community rich in faith,
seeking the Kingdom of God.
Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
April 5, 2015
ALLELUIA! CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRYSTUS ZMARTWYCHWSTAŁ! PRAWDZIWIE ZMARTWYCHWSTAŁ!
I want to extend wishes of a beautiful and happy Easter to all parishioners, staff, and visitors. We have now entered into the great season of Easter. May we all cele-brate with great joy the promise of our new life in Christ,
our Risen Lord. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. The Lord Jesus, through His Cross and Resurrection, has destroyed the power of sin and death and brought us into His life. Christ has won for us victory over death. The Church in her wisdom asks us to keep this feast alive for fifty days. We need to reflect on this and just how much our Lord loves us. Because Jesus died and rose from the dead, we no longer have to fear sin and death. The victory has been won in Christ. We celebrate Jesus who is our Paschal Lamb who died out of love for us.
To those who have been away from the Church, I sincerely welcome you home this Easter. It is my hope and prayer that by worshipping with us, and celebrating Holy Mass, you will encounter the Risen Christ. In the spirit of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, I too extend to you the love and mercy of our Risen Lord and sincerely invite you: come back to the Church! From Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhorta-tion Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel): "I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an open-ness to letting Him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invi-tation is not meant for him or her, since “no one is exclud-ed from the joy brought by the Lord”. The Lord does not disappoint those who take this risk; whenever we take a step toward Jesus, we come to realize that He is already there, waiting for us with open arms."
What a great celebration and joy. Our Lord is alive! We celebrate Easter, the Resurrection of Our Lord. Beauti-ful lilies are everywhere and empty tomb is telling us: “He is not here anymore. He is Risen!” When you are facing the tomb, please don’t miss the statue of the Resurrected Je-sus. It is located to the left of the tomb. The statue is small (2 ½ feet tall, without the cross) but beautifully carved and realistically painted. You can see that Jesus is back to life and He is leaving the tomb. Behind there is dark grey stone removed from the entrance of the tomb. Jesus’ eyes are focused on Heaven and He is holding the cross with white flag. The cross is the symbol of our salvation and the sign of hope. The white flag symbolize Jesus’ victory over death and Satan. On the flag is the cross and letter R. The letter R stands for Resurrection.
SS. Peter and Paul News Page 2
Remember that Easter is a way of life, not just a date on a calendar so live each day as a person who be-lieves firmly in the promise of the Resurrection.
May the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ and His Mom bless and protect you always!
Fr. Jerry
Znam to doświadczenie.
O. Augustyn Pelanowski OSPPE
Update from the Archdiocese of Detroit
Easter
Easter is a time of great joy that encourages us to be aware of God’s presence in our lives. Easter also re-minds us that the Lord walks beside us on our journey of faith.
We witness Christ’s living presence in many ways, one of which is through our support of our local commun-ion of faith through the Catholic Services Appeal. Our an-nual CSA supports the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, which brings new members into full communion during the Easter Vigil. The CSA enables us to reveal Christ’s presence not only to our sisters and brothers with whom we share the Eucharist, but also to those who do not know Christ.
Gifts to the CSA show that Christ is present and active in our world. Indeed, He is risen today. Alleluia!

What is Divine Mercy?
The Divine Mercy Message and Devotion
The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us — all of us. And, He wants us to recog-nize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.
The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC:
A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.
B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.
C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread.
Spend time to learn more about the mercy of God, learn to trust in Jesus, and live your life as merciful to oth-ers, as Christ is merciful to you.

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
“John saw the empty tomb and believed…”
What was it like for the disciple who had stood at the cross of Jesus and then laid him in a tomb on Good Friday, to come back three days later and discover that the sealed tomb was now empty? John, along with Peter, was the first apostle to reach the tomb of Jesus on Easter Sunday morning. Like Mary Magdalene and the other disciples, John was not ready to see an empty tomb and to hear the angel's message, Why do you seek the living among the dead (Luke 24:5)? What did John see in the tomb that led him to believe in the resurrection of Jesus? It was certainly not a dead body. The dead body of Jesus would have disproven the resurrection and made his death a tragic conclusion to a glorious career as a great teacher and miracle worker. When John saw the empty tomb he must have recalled Jesus' prophecy that he would rise again after three days. Through the gift of faith John realized that no tomb on earth could contain the Lord and giver of life. John saw and believed (John 20:8).
John had to first deal with the empty tomb before he could meet the risen Lord later that evening along with the other apostles who had locked themselves in the upper room out of fear of the Jewish authorities (John 20:19-23). John testified as an eye-witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ: What we have seen, heard, and touched we proclaim as the eternal word of life which existed from the beginning (1 John 1:1-4). John bears witness to what has existed from all eternity. This "word of life" is Jesus the word incarnate, but also Jesus as the word announced by the prophets and Jesus the word now preached throughout the Christian church for all ages to come.
One thing is certain, if Jesus had not risen from the dead and appeared to his disciples, we would never have heard of him. Nothing else could have changed sad and
despairing men and women into people radiant with joy and courage. The reality of the resurrection is the central fact of the Christian faith. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Lord gives us "eyes of faith" to know him and the power of his resurrection. The greatest joy we can have is to encounter the living Christ and to know him personally as our Lord and Savior. Do you accept the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection with skeptical doubt and disbelief or with trusting faith and joyful wonderment?
"Lord Jesus Christ, you have triumphed over the grave and you have won for us new life and resurrection power. Give me the eyes of faith to see you in your glory. Help me to draw near to you and to grow in the knowledge of your great love for us and your great victory over sin and death." (Copyright 2015, Don Schwager)
Christians, to the Paschal Victim
offer your thankful praises!
A Lamb the sheep redeems; Christ, who only is sinless,
reconciles sinners to the Father.
Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:
the Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal.
Speak, Mary, declaring what you saw, wayfaring.
“the tomb of Christ, who is living,
the glory of Jesus’ resurrection;
Bright angels, attesting,
the shroud and napkin resting.
Yes, Christ my hope is arisen;
to Galilee he goes before you.”
Christ indeed from death is risen,
our new life obtaining. Have mercy, victor King,
ever reigning! Amen. Alleluia.
(Sequence for Easter Sunday)
Please accept our sincere wishes for a very joyous Easter.

Pray For Our Deceased
“But our citizenship is in Heaven and from it we also await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with His glorified body by the Power that enables Him also to bring all things into subjection to Himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21)
Pray for the Sick
All-powerful and everlasting God, your Son accepted our suffering to teach us the virtue of patience in human ill-ness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brothers and sisters. May all who suffer know that they are joined to Christ in His suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
