Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Once more: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE !!! I hope that you

had wonderful Christmas with your family and friends, and I pray for many

blessings for you and all your loved ones in this New Year.

This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, and this

celebration will end the Christmas Season.

Tomorrow, Monday we start the Ordinary Time that will last until

Tuesday, March 5th, than Lent starts with Ash Wednesday on March 6th. After

Lent, we will celebrate Easter on April 21st, then the Easter Season will end

with the feast of Pentecost on June 9th, and Ordinary Time will resume on the

following Monday.

This Sunday of the Baptism of the Lord, we are celebrating Christ

beginning his mission of proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven. With Jesus’

baptism, the heavens open and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form

of a dove, and God’s voice is heard:

“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

This manifestation happens not for Jesus, but for all those who were witnessing the event. Jesus knew that

He is the Beloved Son of God, but John the Baptist didn’t know, neither did others.

Imagine how great it would be; if at our baptism the heavens would be opened and we would see the light of

the Holy Spirit descending upon the baptized, and if we could hear the voice from heaven speak to us? It would be

wonderful and magical, but it would be somewhat scary as well, because what kind of light or fire would that be, or

what voice, how strong or how gentle it would have to be, or in what language would God speak ?and who could

understand it ?

God allowed it to happen, so that you and I would know, that God uses those Sacramental signs to

communicate to us his life and his love. How many times in the Bible we read of a blessing or anointing, that

changes the course of someone’s life, marking the call or a mission, that would change the person’s life and would

affect the course of history of nations and humanity, it would affect the course of salvation history for generations

to come. The blessing, anointing, or unction with the Spirit of the Lord would become the beginning of new life for

those who were called and chosen.

Much is to be expected from every blessing, much is to be expected from every Sacrament that we receive.

As Jesus would say: “your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

But we still would like to see those heavens open and the rays of light come down upon us. Than, as some

people say, that they see the Blessed Mother appear to them, we the rest of people who don’t see, we still have to

believe that it is reality. Those who believe they don’t need the proof. Those who don’t believe, even as they see it,

they don’t stop questioning and doubting.

As for those who are initiated into faith, we are to be the voice of God for those who need to hear that

affirming message: You are a beloved daughter of God , You are beloved son of God, You are good, You are

precious to Him ! You and I, we are called to be the voice of God, for those who need to hear of God’s love and

blessings of his salvation.

On this Sunday of the Baptism of the Lord we will baptize over 30 of our Religions Education students who

are being prepared. With a total number of 36 with few to be baptized in February. The children will be baptized in 3

different Masses so we can break down the number to make it easier. We will baptize them in both: Spanish and

English. It is really considerable number. The children will be of school age from different grades, as all personal

stories differ from others. It will be great celebration for our Parish, with a great outpouring of grace and blessings

upon many individuals and families. Let us have a great expectation from the Lord for the graces for each one of

those young people. May the Lord open the heavens and shower his blessings upon them, may they hear his voice,

may they know his love, may they receive his salvation. May the promises of the Lord be theirs always!!!

God bless everyone always !!!

Fr. Stan

Next weekend on Saturday at the 7pm Spanish Mass we will celebrate Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia, the Blessed

Mother venerated under this title in Dominican Republic. Let us join the celebnration at Mass, and at the reception

in the basement of the church with all the good Dominican food and entertainment. Waiting to see you at the feast.

Blessings !!!! Congratulations to our newly baptized !!!!!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Felicitaciones a nuestros recién bautizados!!!

The generosity of the parishioners of St. Anne

Parish allows us to reach out to people in our Brentwood/Bay Shore neighborhood who struggle

every day to make ends meet. Thank you to all who donate to our food pantry.

During December 2018, we were happy to assist 175 families, 29 seniors, 249 adults and 286 chil-dren. We also helped 6 new families.

You were very generous with your Christmas responses to our the “Giving Tree”. Our out-

reach also received assistance from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Centerport, St. Patrick, Smithtown and St. Agnes, Rockville Centre. With all the gifts, the outreach assisted 134 families with toys and clothing for 293 children. We are so very grateful for your spirit of

giving to those in need.

Toiletries are always appreciated by our clients. Here are the items most needed: toilet pa-per, tissues, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, tooth-paste, shaving cream, disposable razors, diapers (size 4 & 5), baby wipes, feminine hy-

giene products, pet food and laundry detergent. Thank you for caring for the poor in our parish community.

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year 2019 and Peace on Earth. Janet Lambert, Outreach Coordinator

quien debemos escuchar” y seguir.

La primera lectura (Is 42:1-

tous : « Moi, je vous baptise avec de l’eau ;

Ciel : « TOI, TU ES MON FILS BIEN-AIMÉ ; EN TOI, JE TROUVE

MA JOIE. »
