In particular Chris Reys, Lisa Occhietti, Deb Vivian, Sue Brown and many others who rolled up their sleeves to clean and shift lots of old stuff. Please drop by and have a look or stop in for story time on Monday and Tuesday morning. We hope to utilise this space a lot more as we continue to create welcoming and cosy areas for the children and teachers to occupy. Please remember to make a note of the school closure day coming up on Friday June 1st. This is an opportunity for the staff to learn together and develop their skills in new areas that will contribute to the positive growth and learning of our students. I will be away on a Principals’ conference from Sunday May 20th until Sunday May 27th. Please see James Gow or Susan Kubiak for any urgent matters during this time. In the coming weeks we look forward to seeing our Harmony Day rock garden take shape and the Year 6s St Anthony mosaic art pieces start to develop. These 2 projects will enhance our outdoor spaces, provide some visual reminders of our Catholic Identity and remind us every day of our lovely motto; ‘to learn together in per- fect harmony’. Thank you to Louise in 1/2Fitz for her winning drawing of our motto (above). We continue to encourage student voice every day in all learning spaces and provide an environment where everyone can flourish. Enjoy the week ahead everyone, and as always if you have any ideas, con- cerns or queries we would love to hear from you. God Bless, Patrika Rowley

Congratulations to all of our Year 3 and 5 students for

completing NAPLAN this week. Super effort!

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends”

JOHN 15:12-13

Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Does your giving seem mechani-cal out of obligation or do you share freely out of love?

Dear Parents, The past 2 weeks have certainly been busy. We celebrated Mother’s Day with a beautifully cooked breakfast, gifts and a stall where the children could choose a small present for their mums and special ladies in their lives, we completed another year of Naplan, several students visited our local kinders to share stories, our Preps went to the Casey Safety Village despite stormy weather, we celebrated our Pyjama and Bible night with P/1/2, Melbourne Victory visited the year 6’s, our library has been cleaned, renovated, sorted and rearranged to become a welcoming learning space, we had some lovely photographs taken of our children and school and we also welcomed the cold weather. The winning poster below – tarmunggie - Woman - has been selected for NAIDOC Week (8-15 July 2018). Cheryl Moggs, a proud descendant of the Bigambul people of Goondiwindi, Bungunya and Toobeah regions in South West Queensland joins previous winners of the NAIDOC Week poster competition which has a long history as a pri-mary tool for promoting NAIDOC Week activities and can be ordered or downloaded directly from the NAIDOC web-site. This year’s theme, Because of her, we can!, celebrates the essential role that women have played – and continue to play – as active and significant role models at the com-munity, local, state and national levels

Learning and Teaching Update

Our year 3 and 5 students sat Naplan this week. We are proud of them for preparing so well and commend the St Anthony’s collaborative teaching team who have capably supported their growth in learning from Prep. The learning and teaching culture at our school is strong. We will continue to enable the full flourishing of all students by working together in an environment where all are understood and supported.

SRC & Student Voice Update

This week the SRC celebrated completing the ‘Student Led’ staff meeting. Our focus in our lunchtime meeting was reflecting on the feedback that the teachers gave them at the staff meeting. The teachers gave feedback into two categories: What Worked Well and Even Better If… Here is some of the feedback the students received:

PARISH NEWS

A Message from the Parish This Sunday afternoon, my Sabbatical of three months begins. This time is gifted to the Priests of the Archdiocese every 7-10 years. This will be my second Sabbatical in 24 years. It’s an opportunity for Priests to step aside their parish experience for a time with no meetings and opportunity for prayer, retreats, lectures, touring, travel, rest and recreation.

I'm certainly taking this opportunity to stimulate my heart, mind and body by spending time in prayer where I will hold you and our communities. I will pray your intentions written in my books. In the Holy Land I will walk in the steps of Jesus, Mary and his disciples and the many other pilgrims who have journeyed there before me. I will visit many sacred sites, where our faith began. I will honour the sacredness of life, and the Cross. I will visit sites where evil has been present in the past and present time in various places of our world. I will see where the spirit of humanity refuses to be beaten and where we dare to live life.

This year our Parish Team have been working together in preparation for these three months and beyond, setting our calendar and planning for events in this time. On Tuesday, Patrick Comarmond made a time with Vicki and I, and he gave me his resignation, effective immediately. This took all of us by surprise. We spoke with Patrick for sometime and we respect his decision.

Patrick, thank you for your presence among us since January. We have enjoyed working with you and thank you for your contribution. May you continue to hear God's invitation, and may you continue to be a gift to others and our God. Blessings to you.

Frs Martin and Yon will be supported by three priests who will assist over the next 13

weeks, Fr Paul Cahill and Paul Sirah, both Carmelite Priests and Monsignor Greg Bennett, the Vicar General. I'm sure you will make them all welcome. Some of you at St Anthony's will recall Paul Sirah who did an appointment with Tony Feeney. Fortunately, Frs Yon and Paul Sirah will fly our Swans Flag.

During the weeks, Tuesday to Friday at Resurrection, Yon will be the Priestly and Sacramental presence, Vicki will oversee the Pastoral Care needs and be supported by Brenda O'Leary. At St Anthony's, Martin will be the Priestly, Sacramental and Pastoral presence and supported by Sr Nga & Leai Savea-

Passi. We are very fortunate to have such good Administration in both Parishes, with Resurrection Brook and Talia, St Anthony's, Joseph. I hope that if any of our team approaches you for assistance, that you would continue to support all our team to the best of your ability.

We remember in prayer St Anthony's community, this weekend who will gather for the last time, with 3 Sunday Morning Masses. Next weekend 5/6 May, the newly elected Mass Times begin Saturday 6.30pm, Sunday 8.30am, 10.30am and 5.30pm. For those able to honour the new times, may the transition be smooth and gentle. For those unable adapt to our new times, thanks for your presence, support and prayer faithfulness over many years. May you be blessed and able to find a welcoming community. We hope you will always find a welcome here among us at Resurrection and St Anthony's. Blessings to you all.

Fr Brian Collins

Community Carnival The St. Anthony’s Parish team are looking for any interested parents who would like to contribute ideas and help to coordinate this year’s carnival. If this is the job for you please come in and see Patrika or alternatively please call Patrika at school.

Changes to morning Mass From next week the st Anthony’s children will be attending Wednesday morning Masses not Friday Masses with the Parish. With Fr Brian on leave and less hands on deck we are aiming to begin celebrating paraliturgies within the school. These will be planned, developed and led by the students promoting student voice and to give our children a broader perspective of Catholic Identity. It will also allow them to share and celebrate the diverse prayer traditions at St Anthony’s. You will be invited to attend these paraliturgies and are still more than welcome to come along to the Wednesday morning Masses.

Gospel: Jn 20:19-23

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

‘Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of

your faithful, and kindle in them the

fire of your love.”

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, which the Jews celebrated fifty days after the Passover. Pentecost is fifty days after Easter Sunday and marks the culmination and closure of the Lent/Easter/Pentecost cycle. Today we celebrate the birthday of the church and hear how Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to the disciples, just as he had promised to do. The Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to do great work in spreading the Good News through-out the world. They did not stay in the room keeping what they had been given for them-selves. They went out to tell the world how much God loves everyone and that he wants eve-ryone to experience that love. Through our Bap-tism and Confirmation we have received the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit to enable us to bring God’s love to our world. Today it is our chal-lenge to continue this work. We are called to use these gifts to benefit others in God’s service.

We pray for love, especially

in

families, so that parents and

children grow together in

peace.

We pray for joy, especially

when

a baby is born, so that new

life

will remind us of the wonder of

creation. We pray for peace, especially

in countries where there is

continuing war.

We pray for patience, espe-

cially

where there is slowness to

understand and learn.

We pray for kindness, especially for people who grow old and

find it difficult to care for themselves.

We pray for goodness, especially in the minds and hearts of peo-

ple who make and protect the law.

We pray for faithfulness, especially in the lives of those who

promise love and commitment.

We pray for gentleness, especially for people who care for those

who are sick in body or mind.

We pray for self-control, especially when we are angry or hurt.

Jesus, send us your Spirit.

Let us all try to live these fruits this week.

Congratulations to all our students

who received their First Eucharist this

year.

Confirmation All students in Grade 6 wishing to receive their Confirmation this year will receive a letter to-day regarding dates and information. If your

child does not receive a letter and you are wish-ing for your child to be confirmed this year,

please contact the Parish Centre or school of-fice.

Thank you.
