Jesus said to the Pharisees: “There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man‟s table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, „Father Abraham, have pity on me…‟”

Music Ministry Notes . . .
To All Current Music Ministry Members — We will start singing at Mass the weekend of September 17 and 24; rehearsals will begin on Thursday, Sept. 29. New Members are welcome to join on Thursday, Sept. 29. If interested, please call Cathy Gagliano at 483-2589. Folk Group will rehearse on Thursdays at 6:15pm, and Choir at 7:30pm.

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Archangels sent from the hands of God. They are powerful messengers who bring promises of love and hope. St. Gabriel, whose name means “God is my strength,” came to the Virgin Mary at the Annunciation. St. Michael’s name means, “Who is like God.” He protects us with his powerful sword of truth and love against the devil. St. Raphael, means “God is my health,” and is one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord. Faith Moment Reflection — If you need help with estate planning, you probably would turn to your financial planner or accountant for advice. But did you ever think about talking with your priest? The readings today teach us about a different type of estate planning. While this planning anticipates what happens when we die, it's not about property or trusts or wills. It is about eternal life – our ‘estate’ in heaven. Jesus tells of a wealthy man and a poor man named Lazarus to describe a great chasm between rich and poor. Wealth was not the problem. It was the gulf of uncaring that existed between the rich man and Lazarus. Had the rich man acted differently on earth, the chasm could be bridged. But once he entered the next life, it was too late. Now is the time to bridge whatever chasms exist between ourselves and those in need. Now is the time for spiritual estate planning.
