Un lugar para reunirse y crecer.

March is a busy month as we pack up supplies and ar$cles that will not be needed in the coming weeks. Then, in April, the large projects begin. Here are some dates that have been set as we move closer to the start of our renova$on. April 9-12: Outside brick on the sacristy walls will be removed and cleaned for use in the renova$on from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM April 17: The Gather worship books will be boxed and put into storage. A limited number will be le# out for daily Mass, and worship aids will be printed for Holy Week. April 28: First Communion Sunday and last Masses in the church. April 29: Pews will be removed from the church. All benches have been sold. April 30-May 4: Statues and furnishing will be moved to storage so renova$on can begin. Pray that all goes smoothly with our work.

Sacristy Brick Removal and Restoration

Before our church renova$on officially begins, our local Knights of Columbus are organizing a project to remove the brick from our exis$ng sacristy. This part of the church will be removed (within the illustrated red box in this photo) when renova$on begins. The intent will be to recover as many of these brick as possible to use on the newly renovated church. Our current plan is to begin this project on Tuesday, April 9 at 9 AM—3 PM and working in two hour shi#s each day for the week un$l the project is complete. If you or your group would like to help with this significant project, please contact Randy Richard at 920-885-4456 or Steve Haase 920-210-1560 to schedule a shi# or use this link:h%ps://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084fa9aa2aa2fd0-skdp8

Divorced

Friday-Sunday, April 26-28 Schoensta= Retreat Center in Waukesha

This healing weekend is designed to help each par$cipant embark upon a new phase of life. It is an opportunity for divorced persons to pause and examine their lives – their strong points and weaknesses, their hurts, disappointments, joys and frustra$ons. The cost of $150.00 includes five meals and lodging for the en$re weekend (financial assistance is available). Registra$on deadline is Wednesday, April 17. For more informa$on or a registra$on form, please the Office for Marriage and Family Life at 414-758-2201 or visit the following website: h%p://www.johnpaul2center.org/Nazareth--Project/Separated-and-Divorced.htm

Operation Rice Bowl Encounter Annet

In Uganda, we encounter Annet and her family, children forced to flee violence, searching for stability. How are we called to welcome the stranger in our midst? How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or be%er opportuni$es? Visit crsricebowl.org for more informa$on.

If you have not obtained your Rice Bowl for this Lent, the Rice Bowls can be found on the shelves over the heat registers in church. There are both English and Spanish versions available.

Books for Lent

The Knights of Columbus gave parishioners a copy of Ma%hew Kelly’s book “The Biggest Lie in the History of Chris$anity.” If you would like to have a copy, the books are located near the exits of church by the ramp and by the choir or on the shelf in the narthex of the church. English and Spanish transla$ons are available. During the week, copies of the book are available at the Parish Center during regular hours of opera$on.

40 Cans for Lent

As we fast, pray, and give alms to the poor in Lent, parishioners are asked to donate food as they fast during Lent. For each day in Lent, set aside one can, box, or package of food and donate the food to the food pantry. Each Sunday in Lent, place your dona$on of food in the baskets near the entrances to church. The food pantry could use the following types of food: cereal (especially individual oatmeal packets), baked beans, canned fruit, soup, boxed mashed potatoes, tuna, Jell-O and pudding. As God has blessed us in abundance, we share what we have with others.

Ministers of Communion Meeting

The Ministers of Communion to the Sick and Homebound will meet on March 21, at 6:30 PM in the St. Patrick Room. We will discuss the recommended rituals as well as the guidelines for this ministry. A%endance is not necessary for doing this ministry.

LENTEN JOURNEY AT SKDS

Lent began Wednesday, March 6. Our students were at the 8:20 AM Mass on Ash Wednesday, led by the eighth graders. From the readings and pe$$ons to the ushering to the Distribu$on of Ashes to helping the youngest students to playing instruments, they handled each part with skill. Below we share some of the things our students are doing to make our school Lenten Journey meaningful.

E$%@J C+'@L+??L will look for signs of new life, fill a bean jar with kind acts, and read Bible stories and the “Legend of the Sand Dollar.” 5K will work on doing good deeds, grow a tomb garden, bury the “Alleluia", make empty tomb rolls, and walk the “Sta$ons of the Cross.” F'%*Q G%$L- will work on the Lent chapter in their religion book and con$nue with the Gospel Weeklies, will go to the Shadow Way of the Cross dress rehearsal (5th graders are their buddies), say the “Sta$ons of the Cross” and make Lenten Lap Books. S->?XL G%$L- will create a Daily Lenten Journal, will work in a Sta$ons of the Cross Ac$vity Book, read passages in the Bible (a countdown to Easter), and go on a First Communion Retreat. T+'%L G%$L- will pray/reflect on the Sta$ons of the Cross and present the “Living Sta$ons”, celebrate the Seder Meal, read the Pflaum Gospel Weekly and complete the Lenten ac$vi$es and use lessons from the Rice Bowl. Fourth Grade will recognize special ac$vi$es students can do for others or that will bring them closer to God, create an Easter wreath telling the Easter story, design a “Lenten Hands” picture focusing on the three parts of Lent (prayer, fas$ng and almsgiving) and create a bucket list coming up with different things students can give back to the community. F'ZQ+ G%$L- will prepare for and present the “Shadow Way of the Cross,” develop and follow a Lenten calendar focusing on individual student goals, and work on Venture Lenten ac$vi$es from Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. S'[Q+ G%$L- will decorate the classroom windows with special crosses, make 3-D fish, create a Lenten chain focusing on prayer, fas$ng and almsgiving, lead the Friday “Sta$ons of the Cross,” say special prayers at day’s end and discuss the three Lenten themes of prayer, fas$ng and almsgiving. S-\-XQ+ G%$L- will say daily Lenten prayers led by a student, make a Lenten promise and complete a “Because I said I would” promise card, use Lenten journal reflec$ons, par$cipate in the Heifer Interna$onal Project and lead the “Sta$ons of the Cross.” E']+Q+ G%$L- will lead Friday “Sta$ons of the Cross” and will do chores to earn quarters for Heifer Interna$onal, use Best Lent Ever Prayer and Journaling, prepare and lead the Ash Wednesday Mass. The SQ^L-XQ B?LJ will be involved in various collec$ons [for the homeless shelters (Primary Students), the Rice Bowl and Builders Club 40 Cans for Lent (Elementary Students)], leading “Sta$ons of the Cross” a#er Friday Masses, Reconcilia$on, and joining in prayer at the “Living Sta$ons” and/or the “Shadow Way of the Cross.”

These are just some of the ac$vi$es to be undertaken by our students during Lent 2019. We an$cipate a spiritually enriching Lenten Journey.

Give the Gift of Catholic Education

You can help a family send children to SKDS to receive a Catholic School educa$on. Families sacrifice to send

children to our parish school because they want a Catholic educa$on. Can you give $10, $100, $1000?

Whatever you give will be a gi# to our students.

Write a check to SKDS. On the memo line write: TUITION ASSISTANCE GRANT FUND

Letter from the Pastor Shared by Fr. Mike

F!" !"# R$%&$'()!*

Lies, Lies, Lies As we enter Lent we go with Jesus into the desert and he helps us understand how to deal with the devil. Even Jesus has to contend with the devil’s lies. 1. Happiness through consumerism (turn rock into bread), 2. Power comes from the devil (all of this I will give to you), and 3. Proving yourself through reckless behavior (jump from the temple parapet). We s$ll have these tempta$ons and too o#en fall for these lies. We need to see how the devil was trying to catch Jesus through the start of these sentences: “if you are the son of God”. Jesus, and more importantly the rest of us, need to be sure of who we are so as to refute these tempta$ons. We are God’s children, a reality made even more clear through bap$sm, confirma$on and eucharist. Our Lenten prac$ces of prayer, fas$ng and almsgiving help us remember our dignity by being free from consumerism, power-hunger, and recklessness (excessive drinking, gambling, and speeding). Available at all of our churches is a book by Ma%hew Kelly called “The Biggest Lie”. He builds up to the biggest lie by going through many other falsehoods that we contend with or we inflict on the world. In chapter four he speaks of how all of us present false versions of ourselves – how we seem to be as opposed to who we really are. This book is an excellent examina$on of the lies of the devil in the desert for our current $mes. To help you get started reading, let me state the biggest lie Kelly focuses on is that we cannot be holy (like previous genera$ons). This Sunday as we proclaim Jesus on the mountain top in his full glory we see Jesus reminding the Apostles and us of His true calling and our Chris$an des$ny – with Him we are called to travel to holiness. And this is the truth, truth, truth. For more insights into this book, please see my page on our parish web site.
