St Paul’s Catholic Primary School

Newsletter Thursday 5th November 2020 Term 4 Week 4

Good afternoon St Paul’s families,

For the last couple of (hot) weeks, our children have enjoyed cooling off at Nightcliff Pool for their

Swimming Lessons. We have managed to do this without losing too many items and the children have had

lots of fun whilst learning how to keep themselves safe in and around water.

We were saddened this week with news that Jacinta Flint’s father, Neil, passed away. Please remember

Jacinta and her family (Blake – Year 6 and Curtis - Year 5) in your thoughts and prayers.

For safety reasons, parents are asked not to drop children at school prior to supervision at 7:45am.

If there is a need for us to offer a Before School Service, I am happy to investigate this.

Please keep your vote going for Mr. C in the Apple for a Teacher competition – wouldn’t it be wonderful if

we won the end of year disco! Please log on and register your vote:

We are currently in the process of finalising enrolments and classes for 2021. If you know of any families

looking to enrol at St Paul’s, please ask them to contact us ASAP. If you have anything particular

pertaining to your child’s class for 2021, please speak to classroom teachers or myself directly. Please

note that creating classes is a delicate process of balancing the academic and social needs of all of our

students.

Mrs Kimberley Justice (part-time Year 3 teacher) and Mrs Jo Hanrahan (ISA and OSHC Educator) will be

leaving us next week due to interstate relocation (COVID19 protocols have prompted the mid-term nature

of these moves). We thank both of them for their time here at St Paul’s. Their hard-work and dedication

has made a huge difference to the lives of many of our students and their families.

A couple of weeks ago, our final statement for school fees was emailed to families. Thank you to all

families who have already actioned this. If any families are experiencing financial difficulties, please

contact myself or [email protected] for further discussion.

May your hearts be filled with love,

Megan

R E News The MJR focus for Weeks 3 & 4 is coping with disappointments in life.

Pope Francis Quote

“Are you angry with someone? Pray for that person. That is what Christian love is”.

Jesus got angry with injustice and the Pharisees.

Just as there was a process that made us angry, there is also a process to cope with our anger.

At some stage, we all get angry in life. It’s ok, as long as we learn to control our anger. I can express

my angry feelings in ways that are fair to others.

Nita- RM 12

During our

swimming lessons,

Nita displayed the

spirit of Jesus by

giving another

student her

goggles.

Beth- Rm 2

I saw the spirit of

Jesus in my mum

every day when

she makes me

breakfast.

Raf- Rm 2

I saw the spirit of

Jesus in Jakob

when he helped

me up after I had

fallen.

On Friday we got the opportunity to gather the Mini Vinnies, SRC and 2 representatives from Rm 4,

Rm 5 and Rm 2 to have a look at our current school prayer. Students are working towards editing the

current prayer to better reflect the messages represented in our logo. We would like to include: we

walk together in faith towards a future filled with hope and love.

A Remembrance Day liturgy will be held at school on Wednesday 11th November to remember the fallen

members from World War 1. Room 8 will be leading us in this special ceremony. Students are welcome to

wear a poppy on this day.

On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With

their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the

First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the fore-

front of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to

turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the

breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were

withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at

a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead.

In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had

died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the post war decades.

Each year on the 11th day of the 11th month Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who

died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

Dear Lord, help me to live each day quietly, easily. To lean upon your

strength truthfully, restfully. To wait for the unfolding of your will

patiently, serenely. To meet others peacefully, joyfully. To face tomorrow

confidently, courageously.

Amen

BOOK FAIR SUCCESS

This year’s Book Fair was a happy, busy place with lots of students coming in every lunch time to look and buy

at all the wonderful new books on offer, as result we were able to buy $600 worth of new books for the library,

which we are busy covering and putting into the library for all the students to read.

Thank you to all the library monitors who came and helped out Ms Clare every lunchtime.

THE THREE BEE’S OF ST PAUL’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

This term we have 3 new arrivals to encourage our students to BE Respectful, BE Responsible and BE Safe!

These gorgeous letter boxes which you may have seen on the steps outside of the office, are there for students

to ’mail’ their examples and stories of themselves or their peers exhibiting one of the important “BEE’s” of St

Paul’s Catholic Primary School.

SWIMMING LESSONS

During week 3 and 4 of Term 4 our students have participated in

swimming lessons at Nightcliff Swimming Pool every Monday to

Thursday. This would normally culminate in a swimming carnival,

however due to the nature of 2020, this was unfortunately not possible

this year however the swimming lessons have still been a great way to

cool off, to develop individual swimming skills and confidence and

importantly to learn how to stay safe in and around water.

Easy Recipes for Lunchboxes

Healthy chicken and vegetable sausage rolls (Allergens: contains gluten, soy, optional sesame and egg)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 200°C and line 2

baking sheets with baking paper.

Process crumbs, chicken and unbeaten

egg in a food processor until well

combined. Place in a bowl, mix well with

vegetables and herbs, then season.

Place 1 pastry sheet on a floured surface and halve. Spoon an eighth of

the mixture lengthways along centre of each piece. Fold 1 edge of pastry

over and tuck in beside filling, then fold over other side to make a roll,

pressing down lightly to seal. Repeat with remaining pastry and filling.

Cut rolls into 3cm pieces and cut two small incisions into each roll to

prevent splitting. Place on baking sheets, cover and chill for 30 minutes.

Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 25-30

minutes until the rolls are lightly browned and cooked through. Serve

with sauce on the side.
