Happy Reformaon Day!
Welcome to week 4. It’s hard to believe that next week is mid-term – me does fly
when you are having fun!
Last Thursday we were excited to have Healthy Harold, Paula and Kyle from the Life
Educaon Van visited with us for the day. Each class spent some me in the van,
learning about healthy choices and making wise and healthy decisions. The
messages imparted are most important and we were certainly blessed to have this
innovave means to engage and involve the students.
The tennis compeon for students has commenced – and began with a day at the
Henty courts to get through most of the round one matches. Hopefully we will be
able to run many of the matches here at school during lunch mes, though we will
revisit the courts as needed. Thanks to Joseph Muller for organising the draw, and
helping with planning and management on the day.
Today students in Years 3-6 headed to Walla Walla to celebrate Reformaon Day.
This year marks 500 years since Marn Luther posted 95 theses on the church door
at Wi5enberg – statements and quesons for discussion about common pracses
and teachings within the church at the me that he believed were wrong. Our
students combined with students from St Paul’s College Walla, St John’s Jindera,
Wagga Wagga Lutheran School, and Victory College Wodonga for a service of
celebraon. The theme was:
“For you – the Reformaon covered the good news that Jesus is for you. What good
news for you was recovered in your century?” and each school was invited to
parcipate and were given a century to study. We had 1617-1716 and chose to look
at “Courage- we are called to be Courageous”. It was a remarkable service and
fellowship for all.
Our 3/4 students are most excited to be heading to Borambola for their class
excursion on Thursday and Friday this week. I’m not sure whether this excitement is
due to the couple of days away from school and home, the excing acvies
planned, or the prospect of seeing Mrs McClure take the mud run! We wish them
God’s blessing during their me away, His safety and protecon.
A working bee is planned for Friday next week to complete the regular gardening
and cleaning jobs that seem to come around regularly. If this me doesn’t suit,
please feel free to register an alternave me. Parcipaon in two working bees
each year result in the maintenance
levy being refunded.
Blessings for your week
God Bless,
Bev McFarland

Term 4 is zooming along! A highlight of last week was vising the Life Ed Van to see Healthy Harold. Comments from the
students include:
Milly “I didn’t know that yoghurt was healthy”
Eleanor “The girl who gave Healthy Harold the tooth brush had her hair brushed! (I learnt) When there is food on your
teeth you need to brush your teeth”
Micah (I learnt to) “Eat healthy things and what you need to eat to keep healthy, and about friends”
Aiden “We heard about healthy food and bad food like icy poles”
Aaron “We played this game, we had pictures on the wall (of unsafe things) and you had to match it to a picture of a
safer thing”
Blake (I learnt to) “Brush your teeth for 2 minutes, and we had to match the food with the right colour, green for all the
me foods and yellow for somemes foods”
Robbie “Twice a day you have to brush your teeth”
Jamie “Go to bed and have a good sleep”
Some highlights for this week…
*Reformaon Day: K-1-2 parcipated in their own Reformaon Day devoon. We watched a short YouTube clip (which I
have leK a link to later in the Newsle5er), learning about Marn Luther and his life. Then we listened to the song “True
Colours” as I made “Luther’s Rose” and explained what each part means. All students received their own copy of the
rose to colour.
* Reading groups have started up again this term. Students have se5led well into their groups and are being challenged
on their retell skills.
* Transion Days connue. All students starng next year have now joined us for a session at school. These days will
connue unl intensive swimming lessons commence.
Highlights to come…
* The Year 4-5-6 class will start their clay works this week aKer an introductory lesson earlier in the term on techniques
we need to know to create with clay. They will start with the base of a pinch pot to make a living thing.
God Bless,

5-6 Class
Last week on Thursday we had Healthy Harold come and visit our school. This year’s theme was Decisions and was
about saying “No” to drugs and smoking. We played some games e.g. retrain the brain. We had to clap when Paula said
clap, jump when she said jump, run when she said run and stop when she said stop. Then you would retrain the brain
so when she said clap you would jump, we would run when she said stop, stop when she said run and clap when she
said jump. Most of us were pre5y good. Also the Year 6’s got to see the house of Harold and we said goodbye for the
last me.
A few weeks ago the 4/5/6 started po5ery. We learnt how to knead the clay. To knead you have to make sure there
are no air bubbles in the clay. We also learnt how to scratch and a5ach. That is where you scratch the clay to a5ach
other pieces to it. The next me we do po5ery we are going to make sculptures using the skills we have already learnt.
It’s really fun.

This week we are heading off to our excursion on Thursday and Friday to Borambola. Thank you to Cameron Male and
Jason Singe who will accompany students on the excursion. The students are crazy excited, but we have some
important events to a5end before that. Today we are off to Walla Walla to a5end the Reformaon Ceremony and will
be back in me to complete lessons in the aKernoon.
Students have been involved in various lessons last week in Mathemacs that
required their precision in finding angles in the environment and idenfying which
angles they are. We had a lot of fun taking pictures of angles and idenfying them
in the context of the environment we live within at school.
Maths groups on Wednesday (K-1-2-3) were required to exhibit their understanding
of long, longer, longest. Short, shorter, shortest. Wider, wider, widest and heavy,
heavier and heaviest. Year Three were asked to measure six things in the
environment and record this measure in metres, cenmetres and millimetres. A
li5le tricky but all could complete the task. They were asked to take photos on the
IPads and then demonstrate their understanding using Pic Collage. All students
enjoyed this task and demonstrate their understanding through pictures taken.
With the aid of Mrs Zweck, students idenfied the requirement in the school
environment and Mrs Zweck could take a photo of their understanding. Students
had a lot of fun showing Mrs Zweck these requirements and I could assess the
students from the photos taken.
Healthy Harold came to school last week and the 3/4 class had a lesson in the importance of medicine, why we take it
and what the results can be. The students were very respecPul and parcipated with great enthusiasm. They had a
lovely experience paQng Harold and giving him cuddles.
The last Partnership Day at St Paul’s Walla Walla was a very excing me for students. In Science they were asked to
build a tower of the greatest height that could also support the weight of a football for 5 seconds. They were supplied
with newspapers, tape, and a football. This required all students to work in conjuncon with each other to meet the
desired result. Many teams failed, others were successful, but the team below won on the day!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week,
Kaylene McClure

A Striking Image
They brought him a silver coin and he said, “ Whose face and
name are these?” “The Emperor’s” they answered. So Jesus
said, “Well, then, pay to the Emperor what belongs to the
Emperor, and pay to God what belongs to God.”
Mark 12:16, 17
Did you know that destroying or defacing our currency could
land you a fine of $5000 or imprisonment for two years, or
both?
That’s because it is seen as an act of treason because the coin
bears the image of the monarch.
So when Jesus said give to the emperor what bears his image
and to God what bears his image we are reminded that human
beings bear God’s image and we are called to care for each
person.
That’s why Luther was passionate about reforming the church:
he could see the anguish on the faces of the people who were
deprived of the comfort of the gospel.
Through the traffic in indulgences, people were giving large
sums to the corrupt church for its ambious projects,
parcularly the building of St Peter's in Rome. An indulgence
cerficate could bring no lasng relief from sin. When Luther
rid the church of these abuses, the people’s consciences were
set free from the bondage of sin. Now they could ‘put on the
new self which is being renewed in knowledge aKer the image
of its Creator.’ Colossians 3:10.

St Pauls has proven to be the perfect choice for
our family. Our children are thriving in all areas –
they love the fact that they know everyone in the
school and have friends across different year
levels. As parents we have been embraced by the
school community and truly appreciate the
support that is offered generously.
St Paul’s has a wonderful open door policy. I have
always found the staff to be very approachable,
I can contact them via phone, email or text.
