PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kalori /2

Hi everyone,

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

We had a great first week back which culminated on Friday in various activities to celebrate NAIDOC week. This week is held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Thanks to staff for their efforts in ensuring that it was a positive day and to all Aboriginal students who led their group through the activities.

Community Charter - Working with you to achieve the best for your children

Thank you to all parents and carers who help ensure that our school environment is a positive and safe one. Please know that we work very hard to create positive environments for students, staff and the whole community that maximise student learning and wellbeing.

Respectful communication is a right. Unacceptable or offensive behaviour has no place in our school community and undermines the positive culture of any school.

To ensure the wellbeing of students, staff and the community in our schools, steps will be taken to address any unacceptable behaviour. This may include restricting contact with the school community or, in more serious cases, referral to NSW Police. (Taken from the School Community Charter, 2019) Together let’s work to ensure that collaborative, respectful communication exists at all times.

Relieving Director Position

I have been offered an opportunity to relieve for the Director of the Griffith Network, David Lamb from 7th August as he takes a well-earned holiday abroad. It will mean that I will be out of the school in Weeks 3,4,5,6 and 7. I will return in Week 8. In my absence, Emma Quinn (Assistant Principal) will relieve in my position. Claire Ross will relieve Emma in her role as Assistant Principal. Mary Liston will teach Year 2 Green and Lucinda Eulenstein will take some of Mary’s role as Learning Support Teacher. I am looking forward to supporting other Principals in their role and learn more about how each school does things differently. I would also like to wish Emma well as she takes on this role.

Celebrating attendance

Last week we congratulated students whose attendance was 100% for Term 2. Well done to those students who managed to dodge the flu! Last week 4/5 Black impressed us with a high attendance of 97.3%!

Celebrating Attendance at Henty Public School Congratulations to 4/5 Black for an outstanding attendance percentage of 97.3%!

SPORT

Todd Woodbridge Tennis Knockout:This Friday 2nd August all students from Years 3 and 4 will be attending the Todd Woodbridge Tennis Knockout being held at the local Henty Tennis club. Children will be competing in a fantastic, fun filled day, where they have the opportunity to demonstrate their tennis skills. Mrs Malmo and Junior will be accompanying the students on the day. Play will commence at 10am and finish approximately 1.30-2pm. It is recommended that children do not get a bakery order on this day due to the uncertainty of the finishing time. Children are reminded to bring a hat, lots of water, fruit, recess and lunch. If your child has their own tennis racquet they may also bring this.

Riverina Athletics:Congratulations to Ashton, Ashtar, Zadkiel, Odin, Ryder Montgomery and Levi Corrigan who have made it on to the Riverina Athletics Carnival being held at the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct in Albury on the 30th August. Children who received their permission notes today are asked to bring the note with them when they attend the carnival. It is a terrific accomplishment for the boys and we wish them the best of luck.

Bluearth:This Thursday we begin our Term 3 Bluearth lessons with Katelyn. We are all very excited about another fun filled term of personal growth and activities related to team building and resilience. Please remember to wear sports uniform this day.

Bernie O’Connor:Bernie O’Connor is now fast approaching. As a school we are very keen for another fantastic day at Yerong Creek. This year the Bernie O’Connor Carnival is being held on Friday, Week 4, 16th August. Children were given a possible opt out note yesterday, however if it hasn’t been returned today it is assumed the children will be participating. We are still looking for any parents to possibly help out coaching either Netball or Football on the day. If you are not busy or would love to be involved please see Mr Davis or the office and let them know.

Golf:This Wednesday we will commence our Golf program being taken by Penny Graeber. Penny is coming from Albury to teach us some new and fantastic skills and the children are starting to get very excited. Each class will have their own opportunity to learn with Penny at some time throughout the day. Last week I stated that children were to wear sports uniform but after deliberation with Mrs Roworth it has been decided that the children are to wear full school uniform for this day. Apologies for any confusion.
