STAHL 2013

on 28 November at the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf

Dear Sir or Madam,

2013 has been an eventful year, characterised by a variety of develop-ments whose significance will only be fully appreciated with the benefit of hindsight. Will the euro regain its stability despite the debt crises? Will the economy continue to have to cope with ever-changing political conditions? Will structural change on the European steel market also have permanent effects on the steel industry in Germany?

This year’s motto “Steel in Motion” is justified. The changes in the global environment are highly dynamic; the economy is volatile and the cycles of technological innovations are becoming shorter. Are there any solid anchor points left? What are the conditions that would permit sustainable growth, reliable investments and industrial accept-ance in future? We will focus on these and other questions at the STAHL 2013 annual event, to which we are delighted to invite you.

We have expanded the number of Talks about Steel this year and simultaneously streamlined their content. Concentrated into one day, we would like to present the range of current technical and economic topics that are having a particularly strong influence on the steel in-dustry this year. The event traditionally concludes with the Steel Get-Together, which starts at 6:00 p.m.

Best wishes,

Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff President German Steel FederationChairman Steel Institute VDEh

Dr.-Ing. Peter DahlmannExecutive Member of the Managing Board Steel Institute VDEh

Welcome and Opening

Thursday, 28 November 2013, 10:00 to 12: 00 a.m., Room 1

Hans Jürgen KerkhoffPresident German Steel Federation Chairman Steel Institute VDEh

Antonio TajaniVice-President, European Commission

Prof. Dr. Henning KagermannPresident, acatech, the German National Academy of Science and Engineering

Thursday, 28 November 2013, 1: 00 to 3: 00 p.m.

2013 is a decisive year for the steel industry in Europe. The economic and financial crises in the European Union have also affected the industrial value-creation chains in the member states. The steel industry that stands at the start of these chains is not immune to these effects. How will the steel industry in Europe develop in this environment? Where are the potentials, where are the greatest challenges? What role will the industry in Germany have in this? We want to discuss these issues with representatives from science and politics.
