Yay! It’s fall! Finally some cooler weather on the way. I know we all can’t wait! Especially every-one training for a longer distance event this fall or early spring. Don’t forget, we always provide fluids for you on South Tropical Trail every Sun-day morning. We have Gatorade/water at Oars & Paddles park and water at 3 and 5 miles. It is available for anyone who needs it! It is put out between 6:30 and 7:00am.

Our Bend to Not Break Yoga Summer Series is ending soon. We have 2 Sundays left, this Sunday, October 7th and the 14th. We want to thank Annette Armstrong of Downtown Yoga for provid-ing us with some awesome yoga times at Running Zone! It is ending just in time for Downtown Yoga’s opening of another studio at 7640 Wickham Road in Viera on November 3rd! As a thank you Downtown Yoga is offering only $29 for a whole month of yoga to Running Zone customers! Thank you Annette!

It’s almost time for the Ghostly Gecko 5k! Hal-loween is always so much fun! Start working on your costumes! We give out first, second and third place prizes for the best costumes. Someone is going to have to try and beat Mark and Lisa and Cooper Petrillo who took 1st place the last two out of three years (one year they got 2nd) Boo Boo, our shop dog, has a few to choose from already! We don’t allow dogs to participate in our series

events because of safety concerns, but you can always have your canines onsite! We are going to add a best costume doggie award this year!

Now that October is here, the Space Coast Mara-thon & Half Marathon is just around the corner! Sunday, November 25th is less than 8 weeks from now! We work really hard to make sure it is a really fun day for all of the participants. And we couldn’t do it without so many wonderful vol-unteers! If you are not participating and you are going to be around for Thanksgiving weekend, consider volunteering and helping to make it a great day! You can sign up on www.spacecoast-marathon.com. Click on volunteer and complete a quick information sheet.

See you all soon!!

training for a fall event? it’s a great time to try all the nutritional products! This month only 15% off.

Fall’s first breath whispered teasing-ly to us on Sept. 22 as though a weather-conscious conductor cued her. The hint of cooler, drier weather reminded us all of her promise that this season’s fastest race times are still yet to be inked. The prospect is especially excit-ing as the first two races of the 2012-13 Running Zone Race Series have already sent finish times and personal bests plummeting while kicking old course records to the curb. It is obvious that the depth and breadth of the Space Coast’s running talent continues to skyrocket. With five races left, it is really way

too early to make any predictions about who might be close to a share of this sea-son’s $10,000 cash and prize purse. Below, however, we provide a list of the current top three overall and age group front-run-ners as we head toward race number three – the Ghostly Gecko 5K on Oct. 20. Complete Running Zone Race Series and Ghostly Gecko information is available at http://www.runningzone.com/series/ Complete current Series standings as well as previous year’s champions are available at http://www.runningzone.com/series/race_results

More than 900 runners and walkers start the i Run for Pizza Football Kickoff 5K on Aug. 11. The race was #2 in the 7-race Running Zone Foundation Race series.

If you and your family love the season of goblins and ghouls, the Ghostly Gecko 5K is an event you won’t want to miss! The Halloween-themed event kicks off on Oct. 20 from the Eau Gallie Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. The early evening witching hour is perfect for families as free childcare is provided during the 5K.

After the race, you can help spark your wee ones’ interest in fitness as all young-sters are invited to participate in the free Li’l Goblins Kids’ run led by Running Zone’s mascot, Zippy the gecko, dressed as a friendly ghost. Come dressed in your best Hallow-een finery as prizes will be awarded for the most fantabulous costumes. Every 5K participant will receive a commemorative moisture-wicking race shirt and all finish-ers will also earn a Halloween goodie bag – no tricks required for these treats! The race is not just fun and games for everyone, though. The Ghostly Gecko 5K is race number three in the 2012-13 Running Zone Race Series. Athletes from Brevard and beyond are giving their all to earn a slice of the $10,000 prize pie that will be awarded to the top Series finishers. After the race, everyone is invited to the spooktacular and incredibly fun post-race party at Squid Lips – right near the finish line. Food, drink and live music add to the fun as the fastest runners receive their awards and those in costumes strut their stuff in hopes of winning a special

award. There will also be random prize give-aways including the grand-prize draw-ing for two tickets to Halloween Horror Nights plus a one-night hotel stay. Will you be this year’s winner?

Just Say ‘Ahhhh….’:

Trigger Point Roller and Trigger Point Starter Set Pain? Tight muscles? Maybe it is time for some Trigger Point therapy! Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots are hyperirritable spots in the muscles. Trigger points derive their name because they ‘trigger’ a painful response not only in the muscle in which they resides, but also referred pain to other areas. integrating the Trigger Point Perfor-mance Therapy into your daily training routine will make your workouts more effect and efficient while speeding recovery. Running Zone now carries the Trigger Point Roller and the Trigger Point starter set that includes the TP Footballer, TP Baller Block, TP Massage Ball and an instructional video to help your body get the best.

And More ‘Ahhhh…’:

The 110% Play Harder Overdrive Compres-sion and Ice Kit The 110% Play Harder Overdrive Com-pression and ice Kit is engineered for both performance and recovery. The gradient compression of the Mercury sox enhances circulation while the unique design protects your legs and feet from the wear and tear of long tough workouts. When you’re finished with your race or workout out, slip on the Overdrive ice sleeves with reusable ice inserts to prevent swelling and reduce inflammation. The soft compression sleeve fits perfectly over the compression sock with openings at the art of the foot, the ankle and just below the knee.

Athletes Giving BackTHANK YOU athletes, sponsors and volunteers! Because of your sup-port of the July 4 Firecracker 5K, Running Zone Foundation was able to donate $3,000 to Honor America, inc. and $1,000 to space Coast Therapy Dogs!

Honor America, inc. operates the Liberty Bell Memo-rial Museum and the Melbourne Military Memorial Park. The local site was established to remind our community of America’s great heritage and history, provide a place for families to remember loved ones and commemorate our veterans.

space Coast Therapy Dogs provide emotional and physical support across a spectrum of human condi-tions. People visiting with the dogs experience a decrease in blood pressure, reduced anxiety, and a general sense of well-being. Physically and mentally challenged children can learn to be more nurtur-ing and gentle. Therapy dogs fill a need in nursing homes to touch and to be touched. Alzheimer’s patients remember dogs’ names even though other memories are fading.

Thanks to all of the athletes, sponsors nd volunteers who supported the July 4 Firecracker 5K, Running Zone Foundation was able to donate $3,000 to Honor America and $1,000 to space Coast Therapy Dogs. Laura spedick, left presents the check to a representative of Honor America.

While studies prove that exercise is so very good for the heart, there are times when athletes are struck with potentially life-threatening heart conditions. Thanks to a gift from Health First Training Center, Running Zone now owns an automated external defibrillator, or AeD, and keeps it on-hand in the store and at all of the Running Zone Founda-tion events. The AeD is a portable electronic device that auto-matically diagnoses cardiac arrhythmias and ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them on-the-spot through defibrillation. This application of electrical therapy stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm. each of our employees have been trained and certified to provide this life-saving technique should the need arise.

Better Safe than Sorry

"Good running form is the single most important thing I have learned in 30 years at Playmakers. I question why it took us so long to learn it."

Curt MunsonOwner of Playmakers, Okemos, MI

"Our stores have been teaching Good Form Running since February. The feedback and testimonials have been overwhelming. We have customers relating how they are running further and faster, and most importantly many have had incredible breakthroughs overcoming pain."

Chris Lampen-CrowellOwner Gazelle Sports, Grand Rapids, MI

"I couldn't believe what a difference GFR made for me. I couldn't run 2 miles without knee pain- one week before a scheduled marathon. After GFR, I was able to run the San Antonio Rock n' Roll Marathon. That's when I knew we had to bring this to our customers and friends."

Helen RussellCo-owner Metro Run & Walk, runner and race-walker, Springfield, VA

"Looking back, I wish I knew how important form was to prevent injuries. I believe with proper form, I can run healthy for the rest of my life."

> Individualized film review

as a participant in the Gfr clinics you will recieve:

are you sure that Gfr will work for me?

Yes. GFR has had an incredibly positive response and success rate. We believe the reason for

that is the fact that GFR simply encourages you to move your body the way it was designed.

since i’m changing my technique, will my muscles be sore?

You will very likely experience some soreness. Chances are you have been under-working

some of the key running muscles. However if the soreness persists past a few runs, you need

to reassess your mechanics.

how long does it take to master Gfr?

Every individual is unique. If you run every day or if you are naturally in-tune with your body,

changes can come within a few days. For some it takes six months, even a year. “Mastering”

GFR requires practice, reassessment, and more practice.

MEET YOUR COACHES

Tracy Simso Tracy’s passion and drive for fitness and healthy living make her a perfect fit to help each participant achieve their fitness goal. Tracy began running as a part of boot camp when she was in the Navy, and has never left her running shoes behind. An employee of Running Zone and a longtime member of the Running Zone Racing Team, Tracy exudes the true spirit of the running/walking community. More than just a runner, Tracy is a true role model to all those she encounters. Recently, she became a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach to help people of all fitness levels to meet or achieve their goals. Tracy will help everyone reach the finish line with a smile.

Andy DutraIt all started with a flight of stairs. When Andy was constantly winded walking up a flight of stairs to his college dorm room his junior year, he knew his life needed a change. He began running short distances at a time, and soon competed in his first 5K. Coupled with circuit training, he lost a total of roughly 100 lbs over the next few years. This led him to become a Certified Personal Trainer to help others reach their fitness goals. On top of working towards his PhD at FIT, he works full-time at FIT’s Clemente Center as one of the Head Personal Trainers and Staff Mentors. In 2011, he joined the Running Zone Racing Team, an honor that he takes very seriously. Recently, he became a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach to help people of all fitness levels to meet or achieve their running objectives. Andy’s passion for running and fitness in general is extremely contagious and he motivates all those he encounters.

TRACY DUTRA Tracy’s passion and drive for fitness and healthy living make her a perfect fit to help each participant achieve their fitness goal. Tracy began running as a part of boot camp when she was in the Navy and has never left her running shoes behind. An

employee of Running Zone and a longtime member of the Running Zone Racing Team, Tracy exudes the true spirit of the running / walking community.

When Andy was constantly winded walking up a flight of stairs to his

college dorm room his junior year, he knew his life needed a change. He began running short distances at a time and soon competed in his first 5K. Coupled with circuit train-ing, he lost a total of roughly 100 lbs over the next few years.
