SEG-Mongolian Student Chapter’s annual report in the

academic year of 2014-2015

As have planned what to do in the academic year of 2014-2015, we have held meetings

constantly and organized following activities among our member students.

1. Field trip to Boroo Gold Mine on December 11, 2014. Total 16 members of our student

chapter and 4 geologists of so-called “Tsagduultain Undarga” company which offered bus ride to

the mine site have participated in this field trip. First, we had a guidance of occupational safety,

followed by the introduction of the geological setting of the deposit by a geologist. Then we

visited to open pit mine site, processing plant, and sites where restoration activities were taken

places. This trip was essential in terms of seeing and connecting the knowledge that we obtained

through lectures in the classroom to the real practices.

2. M.Ochirbat, executive director of Mongolian Society of Economic Geologists, gave

lecture to our students on the topic “Geology and Exploration of coal deposits in Mongolia” on

December 25, 2014. Through this lecture, students could obtain knowledge about the distribution

of coal deposits in Mongolia and what to take close look at during coal exploration.

3. Ch.Enkh-Amgalan, our industrial advisor as well as the director of Mongolian Society of

Economic Geologists, gave an interesting lecture to our students on the topic

“Exploration on gold deposits” on February 12, 2015.

4. Dr Buyan-Arvijikh, an expert in MATAD Co.LTD, gave us a lecture on the topic

“Geodynamics of the Tamsag basin and petroleum system” on April 1, 2015. There were 14

members of our student chapter, and professors and other students from our department. For us

who did not take classes on petroleum geology, every talk was very new and students could

obtain certain knowledge about petroleum geology and how it is formed and what we should

consider during petroleum exploration.

5. As a final occasion of the academic year of 2014-2015, we held an election

meeting to appoint next executive committee members of the year of 2015-2016.

Khulan Tseden, a senior student majoring in mineral exploration was elected as a

president, followed by Enkhbayar Jugdernamdag, also a senior student, as a vice

president. Moreover, Oyundalai Enkh-Amgalan, a junior student, was elected as a

secretary and Tseene Dariimaa, a senior student, was elected as a treasurer.
