Creating your NoodleTools account

1. Open the Hauppauge School District Homepage. (http://www.hauppauge.k12.ny.us) 2. On the top left of the homepage, select your school. 3. Select “Library” on the menu bar. 4. Select “Virtual Reference Collection” on the left hand

side. 5. In the “Reference” section of the VRC, select “NoodleTools” 6. The first time you log onto the VRC you need to enter the VRC username and password.

Signing in to your NoodleTools account

1. Now that your NoodleTools account is set up, you can access your account at: http://www.noodletools.com

2. Select “Current Users: Sign In” 3. Sign in using your unique NoodleTools username and

password that you created.

Creating a new project

1. Select “Create a New Project”

2. Select “MLA” as your citation style, and “Junior” as your citation level. Choose an appropriate description for your project.

Create a works cited for a book

1. Click on “Bibliography” on the top toolbar.

2. Select “Book” and then click “Create Citation” 3. Click “Continue” or check off “Hide this book help screen next time” to avoid this tutorial.

4. You may type in all of the necessary information or import the ISBN # and click search.

5. Click on the book title in the search results and click “Import selected source.”

6. Check over your information to make sure it is correct. Click “Continue.”

7. After you click continue you will have the option to include an annotation. Click “submit” when done.

Create a Works Cited for a Database Article (from the Virtual Reference Collection)

The Virtual Reference Collection allows students to copy & paste citations directly from the article. 1. Copy & paste your citation from the VRC article you are

using.

2. Click on “Bibliography” on the top toolbar.

3. Select “Database” and then click “Create Citation”

4. Select “Original Content/Other”

5. Select “Quick Cite” to copy and paste your citation.

6. Right click and paste in “Manually Edited Citation”

7. Click “Submit”

Example of a completed database citation:

Creating a new note card in NoodleTools 1. Click on “Notecards” on the top toolbar.

2. Click on “New Notecard”

3. Use your sub-topic + 1, 2, 3, etc as your title

4. Find your source from the drop down menu that is from your Works Cited.

Submitting to a teacher’s drop box 1. Click on “Dashboard” 2. Under “Sharing and Collaboration” select “Share project with a teacher’s drop box.” 3. Select your teacher’s drop box name and enter your full name.

4. Click “Share project”
