Outdoor Weather PolicyDecisions on outdoor programs/classeswill be made one hour prior to the start of class. Late cancellations may occur dueto unpredictable weather conditions. Programs/classes are scheduled for make-ups by the program supervisor. Call 703-435-6866.

Prime Time HoursMonday-Friday, 4-10pm, Saturday andSunday, 7am-2pm.Badminton and Wallyball rentals are two-hoursessions. The courts can also be reserved for tabletennis. Racquetball and table tennis reservationsare i n one-hour sessions.

Prime Time$4 per hour + racquetball and badmintonadmission fee per player. $3.50 per session wallyball.

Non-Prime Time$2 per hour + racquetball and badmintonadmission fee per player.$2 per session wallyball.

Class Information• Makeup PolicyClasses cancelled due to inclement weather,pool closures or instructor illnesses aremade up as the calendar allows. Credits forcancelled classes will not be issued toparticipants who are unable to attend themakeup class.

A detailed listing of swimming classrequirements may be found at Herndon-va.gov/Content/Parks_rec/Aquatics.Children should be able to perform allprerequisite skills for a class easily andcomfortably. Parents should read classrequirements and descriptions carefullyto ensure they are enrolling their childinto the appropriate level class! If a childis in the incorrect class, he/she will bedropped from the roster and placed onthe waiting list if there is not room in anappropriate class. Swim evaluations areavailable at no charge if you are unsureof which class is appropriate for yourchild. Contact the Aquatics ServicesManager at 703-435-6800 x2128 toschedule a free evaluation.

Summer Swim Team ~ The Herndon Halibuts(Herndon Swim League) Age 5-18CALLING ALL SWIMMERS!If you have always wanted to be on a swim team but haven’t had a neighborhood team toswim for, here’s your chance! Join the Herndon Community Center Swim Team and be aHalibut! As a developmental team, your child will have an opportunity to learn the fourcompetitive strokes and swim in meets during the season. Parents are required tovolunteer at four swim meets and one team activity during the season. A $35 Activity Feeper swimmer is due upon registration to cover the cost of T-shirts, caps, end of seasonawards and team activities. Online registration is available, but the Activity Fee must bepaid prior to the first day. Swimmers will not be allowed to participate in practice untilthe activity fee is paid. All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the poolcontinuously without stopping. Parents must sign up for the four meets and one activityby the end of the first week. Parents MUST attend the orientation session on Saturday,May 17, 2014 from 5-6pm. Parents will be introduced to the HCC coaching staff andgiven information concerning activity and meet sign-ups.

HERNDON COMMANDERS 2014-2015The Herndon Commanders is the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department’s USASwimming-sanctioned swim team. The Commanders’ nine-month program is dedicatedto giving each swimmer the opportunity to achieve his/her personal goals in anencouraging environment. In addition, swimmers gain confidence, physical endurance and friendships with otherteam members. While she was an undergraduate incollege, she joined a Kendo club anddiscovered a new passion. For over 8 yearsshe has dedicated her life to learning,teaching, and competing in Kendo.Currently, three times a week she comes tothe Herndon Community Center to learnand teach. All her hard work has paid off and she hasearned a spot on the USA Kendo Team,which is training to compete in the worldchampionship in Tokyo in May 2015. TheKendo Federation flies Christine toCalifornia once a month to train with thenational team and she does that whilebalancing a full-time job and attendsgraduate school. Kids TriathlonSeptember 21 | 8am

This event is designed for youth ages 6-16, regardless of athletic ability or prior triathlon experience. Thecourses and distances were created to be achievable for all participants. The philosophy is completion ratherthan competition. We want all of our young triathletes to walk away from the event with a sense of pride inknowing that they completed a triathlon. Every participant receives a medal when they cross the finish line.

Herndon Odyssey Age 6-11The former Summer Fun camp has beentransformed into the Herndon Odyssey.This journey has led to a smaller staff toparticipant ratio of 1:10 and a daily programstructure that will keep participants engagedthroughout the day. Teen Discovery Age 12-15Teenagers will spend two full weeks withfriends, while traveling to their favoritesummer destinations. Each day promises anew adventure through field trips, gamesand activities. Bring a lunch, water bottle,bathing suit, and towel daily. Cost includessupervision, van transportation and tripadmissions. Starting and ending times willvary depending on the trip. There aredifferent destinations each session. TeenDiscovery requires independence and goodjudgment from the participants.Responsibility is an important element ofthe program, as teens are frequentlypermitted to experience activities in smallgroups on their own, checking in atdesignated times and locations.

Refund Policy for Classes & Programs

Late EnrollmentMissed the first class day? We still want you to getyour workout this session. Aquatics Water Workoutand Fitness Studio Small Group Training classesonly will accept late enrollment when there is spacein the class, and both the Program Supervisor andinstructor approve. Consideration is given to theimpact on, and quality of, the class on a case-by-casebasis, and does not apply to personal absences formissed classes due to vacations, medicalappointments, business travel, and so on. Ifaccepted, fees are applied at 100% until the mid-point of the class, and at 75% of the full class feeafter the halfway point. Participant must register inperson once approval is obtained.

Participation Open to AllHCC programs and facilities are open to all citizens,regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age ordisability. The TOH supports the Americans withDisabilities Act by making reasonableaccommodations for persons with disabilities so thatthey may participate in services, programs oractivities offered by the TOH. Please call 703-787-7300 at least two weeks in advance to discuss anyaccommodation that may be necessary to allow forparticipation.

What does TOH and NR mean?The Town of Herndon Parks and RecreationDepartment (TOH) operates the HerndonCommunity Center (HCC). • Town of Herndon (TOH) residents receive a

discount on classes and programs. Proof ofresidency is required. This discount does not applyto classes meeting three times or less, leagues, tripsor special events.

• Town of Herndon (TOH) residents receive adiscount on admission fees to the HCC. The feeschedule is noted on page 2 of this brochure.

• Town of Herndon (TOH) residents will receivepriority in registering for classes if registration iscomplete prior to non-resident registration date.

• Non-TOH residents (NR) are people living outsidethe town of Herndon limits.

• Town Residents may not register non-residents atthe discounted TOH rate under their householdaccount.

How do I know if I live in thetown of Herndon?An easy indicator is if your car’s personal propertytax sticker is from the town of Herndon. Not allHerndon addresses are in the TOH proper.
