“This project (Rowley Center) will be a milestone for continued excellence in education at this college and will put it in a class by itself.”

John BonacicNew York State Senator

“The Rowley Center is a symbol of how far our students can go, because it shows just how far our College has come. We should all be proud to call this the place where we work and learn, because it is a place for students to grow and experience lessons they will carry for the rest of their lives.”

Moriah BrockEngineering student

“The Rowley Center is a special place, one that may very well be the launching pad for great discoveries and explorations, important solutions to societal problems, or the genesis for the design of a mighty bridge, aircraft or a major scientific breakthrough. And it is certainly where well-educated, confident, team-oriented people learn and grow together.”

FIND your inspirationAt SUNY Orange, you will be introduced to a vibrant array of campus happenings and organizations, giving you ample opportunity to find your inspiration both inside and outside of the classroom. Many of the College’s student organizations are clubs formed within academic disciplines, allowing students within those programs to develop out-of-the-classroom experiences that augment their lecture-based learning.

Aside from academic groups you will have the chance to immerse yourself in clubs, service organizations, athletics and intramurals. And if you can’t find a club you want, you are free to form one with fellow students who share your same interests.

If leadership is in your blood, you can seek election to the Student Senate, where you will actively contribute to student initiatives, or join the SUNY Orange Ambassadors, a highly visible group that assists the Admissions Office by providing a student presence at many College events.

If you are a performer at heart, you can shine as part of the Apprentice Players, the College’s theatre group. Or, you can find a home in

one of several performance ensembles (madrigal singers, orchestra, symphonic band, jazz band or choir)

directed by the Arts and Communication Department.

will join with fellow students who excel in the classroom.

REACH your destinationA SUNY Orange degree will serve you well in many ways. Would you like to bypass entry-level positions? An Associate in Applied Science degree will provide you with the in-depth training employers in many technical fields crave. Or, do you wish to acquire your bachelor’s degree? The list below indicates a sampling of the four-year colleges and universities to which SUNY Orange students have transferred.

SUNY Orange students have successfully continued their academic journeys at four-year campuses within the SUNY system and the College has established transfer agreements with other colleges and universities outside of the SUNY system in order to facilitate smooth transitions for our graduates.

The College also offers a selection of certificate programs to help you develop job entry skills or facilitate a career change. These accelerated programs, designed to be completed in one year, can prepare you for technically trained positions in business, engineering technologies, education, corrections and security.

Our graduates also have the chance to secure a bachelor’s degree in certain programs without ever leaving Orange County, thanks to our relationship with Franklin University and its Community College Alliance. Our participation in the Hudson Valley Educational Consortium brings emergency response and innovative technology degree programs from other community colleges in the area to the classrooms of SUNY Orange.

Page 7: SUNY Orange Viewbook - 2015

SUNY Orange boasts many strengths, from its superb faculty to its diverse curriculum to its outstanding student support services. But, one of the College’s strongest attributes is its ability to offer a quality education at an affordable price.

As you research college costs, you will notice that spending two years at SUNY Orange prior to transferring to a private four-year college or university will slice more than $60,000 off your four-year tuition bill. Keep in mind that the College also offers generous financial aid packages that include federal aid, state aid, scholarships, work study and grants, as well as a tuition payment plan.

The support that the College receives from many sources, including Orange County, helps SUNY Orange to keep tuition low, allowing you to secure the education you need at a price that fits your budget.

The College offers an array of academic and athletic scholarships, and is committed to increasing its scholarship endowment fund significantly.

Annually, SUNY Orange students receive more than $7 million in funds. A portion of these funds comes from state and federal government programs such as the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Perkins Loan Program, and Vietnam and Persian Gulf Veterans Tuition Assistance programs. The College’s financial aid staff is fully prepared to help you discover the many available methods for further defraying the cost of your education.

SAVE for your future

Page 8: SUNY Orange Viewbook - 2015

Over the past decade, SUNY Orange has grown in response to the needs of its students, offering campuses in both Middletown and Newburgh to help you achieve your academic goals. The College has nearly completed an aggressive series of capital improvement projects that will have seen SUNY Orange pour $140 million into buildings and grounds within the past six years. In all, the College has fully constructed or renovated six structures during that span, resulting in more than 285,000 square feet of new or renewed educational space.

If you live on the eastern side of Orange County, you will be awestruck when you walk through the doors of Kaplan Hall, a state-of-the-art classroom building that recently opened in Newburgh. The building features the latest amenities in its labs, classrooms and study spaces, as well as a safe and secure underground parking garage that provides easy access to the campus.

SUNY Orange offers seven full degree programs in Newburgh, meaning you can complete all of your degree requirements there without traveling to Middletown.

However, if you choose to attend the Middletown campus, you will stroll a scenic 37-acre campus, located on the beautiful and picturesque grounds of a former estate, that has become a comfortable and safe second home to students who seek academic challenge, friendship and lively activity.

Once you step onto either of our campuses, you’ll instantly feel as if they were designed specifically for you.

didYOU know? SUNY Orange has submitted two new academic degree programs

– Public Health and Digital Media – to SUNY and the New York State Department of Education for review. Approval is expected sometime during the 2014-15 academic year.

“Some people question the quality of the education received at a two year institution. The education we obtained at SUNY Orange was not about memorizing facts or regurgitating equations back onto tests. What we learned was to take that knowledge and information and apply it to our everyday life. We now have the tools we need to be successful. We do not need to wait for opportunities to knock; we can build our own doors.”

Alex De La Rosa, Class of 2014currently enrolled in the International Studies program at American University

“Teaching at SUNY Orange is very rewarding and gratifying. I truly enjoy contributing to the intellectual development of the students and being part of their journey of lifelong learning. Students here have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education through close interaction with their instructors and peers. Faculty and staff--all employees for that matter--are committed to maintaining high academic standards, yet providing close support and assistance to help students succeed.”

Joe ZurovchakBiology professor

“As a SUNY Orange student, I received more than a great education—I was afforded the ability to build local relationships that laid the foundation for my company’s success in the county. As a President’s Scholar, I was fortunate to directly benefit from the generosity of the College. Today, I am honored to return my experiences to others who follow a similar path, and support the many SUNY Orange students who bring immeasurable value to our community.”

Mike Martucci, Class of 2005Owner, Quality Bus Service LLC

“Let’s find the next Mark Zuckerberg. He or she could be here in Orange County. We need to find who they are and we need to get them here. This is the people’s college, given to us by the people of this county, and we are proud of what we do here.”

Rich RowleyChair, SUNY Orange Foundation Board of Directors

“Going to college affords you the opportunity to find yourself, define yourself or rediscover who you are. The best thing about doing that here is the people right alongside you doing the same. I never felt alone, through any hardship, because I met some of the most genuine and giving people you could hope to meet in a lifetime. I have made friends that I will be sure to hold onto, because they have enriched my life and experience here beyond measure.”
