Album Covers Owl City’s first album was called Maybe I’m Dreaming. It was

released in 2008. The album cover matches the name of the title, shown from the clouds and the use of bright soft colours which link to dreaming. This album cover makes the music/artist come across as artistic, dreamy and ethereal. The album cover also makes the artist come across as optimistic and light hearted from the clouds and colours – which are bright. This album is linked to the lead singer’s (Adam Young) insomnia.

Their second album was called Ocean Eyes and was released in 2009. This album cover links again close to the title of the album, by having a blue background and a picture of the ocean. The album cover reminds me of freedom, and it compels the audience letting their imagination go free. The album cover makes the artist come across as creative and carefree, as the image is very calming.

Their third album was called All Things Bright and Beautiful and was released in 2011. The album cover links to the title of the album, showing a bright field. This album cover seems quite down to earth, and to me it says that the world is ‘bright and beautiful’. The scenery on the cover looks like a relaxing place to be and links in well with the songs as the songs are invigorating.

Album CoversOwl City’s fourth album was called the

midsummer station. It was released in. The album cover looks like it’s been shot in the summer which links to the title of the album. It’s an abstract album cover which shows off the creativity and imagination used to make it.

Their fifth (and last) album is a remake of the fourth one but acoustic instead. They’ve used the same image but altered it and made the ‘acoustic’ font stand out more – as it’s a white font on a dark background. The image doesn’t look as bright as the first one, it looks like it’s shot at night but still portrays the same creative ideas as the one before.

This cover isn’t from an album but it’s a single that came out this year. I thought the cover was very interesting as it’s quite similar to his first album – with the soft bright colours for the clouds and background. This cover symbolises creativity itself shown through the image used, the way it’s been edited and how the colours merge together, making it an outstanding piece of work.

Music videosOwl City is known for playing the keyboard/piano. In most of his videos, he’s playing one.

Vanilla TwilightThis shows that he’s down to earth and likes to sing about important things – people use the keyboard to express their emotions and ideas. He does this through songs. Each of his music videos have a different theme to theme, a different colour scheme however most of his songs relate to life or him. It also seems like his music videos are based around buildings and have sky views. They take care of lighting as seen in the vanilla twilight screenshot and shooting star – the lighting relates to the song and their lyrics.

Their website has a picture of Adam Young at the top of the page. This shows that he’s the one who is of importance. There are arrows to change what picture is shown at the top to add more depth to the website.

When I scrolled down the page more the bio is revealed. This is important so people who are new to Owl City can get an insight on what he’s like and what he does.

There is also a toolbar at the top linking to all of the components of the website. If you scroll down, the components are in the same order as the toolbar from left to right. First up was ‘news’ so the fans can keep up to date with Owl City.

Further down is tour dates. This is also important as it’s always better to see an artist live rather than on the computer.

There are also quotes from Owl City under each topic. These are inspirational quotes which can help people through struggles.

Owl City’s websiteMusic is up next. I’d argue that this should go above tour dates as if someone is new to Owl City, they need to know what songs/albums he produces so they know what genre of music he is and if they like him or not.

Next is photos. This is to keep the fans up date on where he is through images. It also keeps them connected with him.

Second last is videos. It shows 6 of his videos then there’s a view more option.

The final thing is social. This is important on keeping the fans up to date on where he is and what’s happening. It shows all of his recent tweets from Twitter here.

Owl City has been compared to the postal service for his combination of fuzzy synths, ironic lyrics and use of female guest singers.
