we are FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE...

Learning to manage money is an important part of the Transition program.

Students complete weekly and monthly budget forms to track their school expenses.

Each student opens a bank account at Patelco Credit union where they learn to perform various transactions.

CULINARIANS…MEAL PLANNING….

THIS GROCERY LIST TEMPLATE IS USED TO PLAN MEALS AND HELP STUDENTS STAY ORGANIZED BY

CATEGORIZING FOOD.

COOKING….STUDENTS THEN RETURN TO SCHOOL AND PREPARE

A BALANCED MEAL. KITCHEN SAFETY AND PROPER SANITATION

TECHNIQUES ARE TAUGHT.

SHOPPING…. ONCE A WEEK, STUDENTS TRAVEL TO THE GROCERY STORE AND PURCHASE FOOD THAT THEY WILL PREPARE FOR LUNCH.

STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT TO NAVIGATE A GROCERY STORE

AND LOOK FOR THE BEST VALUE BY COMPARISON

we are Mobile…Transition students

use public transportation via

County Connection, Wheels and Bart.

Students are shown how to read

bus schedules, plan their travel

and practice time management.

They are taught to board and exit the

bus, request transfers, use a punch card, look

for landmarks and signal when their

stop is approaching.

we are ACTIVE…Leisure and

recreation days offer students the

opportunity to experience new

activities and develop interests they will

pursue for years to come.

Students practice travel training,

money handling, safety/awareness,

social skills, exercise and many other skills

that promote independence.

Activities include: tours, bowling, rock climbing, movies,

hiking, plays, museums, dances,

etc.

we are FIT FOR LIFE…The Transition class has

partnered with Fitness 2000 and Show Up Fitness to

collaboratively teach students with special needs the importance of exercise

as well as work skills.

The Transition students do volunteer work at Fitness

2000 in exchange for a free one day a week

membership.

Show Up Fitness is a school for prospective personal

trainers. Chris Hitchko, the owner of the school brings a

team of 6 – 9 student trainers to Fitness 2000.

Chris and his students teach the Transition students the importance of exercise as well as proper form and

technique.

we are ATHLETES…Three times a year the

Transition class participates in Special

Olympics. Events include soccer,

basketball, and track and field.

Students learn the rules of the game and

practice skills prior to game day.

Participation in Special Olympics builds confidence, self –

esteem, and promotes a healthy lifestyle. It

encourages teamwork and good

sportsmanship.

we are PHILANTHROPISTS…

The mission of the transition program is

to develop well rounded individuals who are productive

citizens that give back to the community

which supports them.

Students are taught the meaning of philanthropy by

arranging bouquets of flowers which are

donated from a local grocery store.

The flowers are delivered to

convalescent homes, businesses, and

residents of the Dublin community.
