Federation EIL is an international non-profit membership

association representing the worldwide network of The Experiment in International Living. Its purpose is to supportthe work of its member organizations in 23 countries. The Experiment in International Living (EIL), founded in 1932, wasone of the first organizations of its kind to engage individualsin intercultural living and learning. Originating in the UnitedStates, The Experiment introduced the homestay concept to theworld by carefully preparing and placing "Experimenters" inthe homes of host families to study other languages and cultures firsthand.

Member organizations of Federation EIL work to advance

intercultural learning experiences through homestays, grouptravel, study abroad, language training, community service,work exchange and other cultural immersion programs. Theseprograms enable individuals of all ages to share experiences,languages, and customs with those from different traditions,with the goals of broadening horizons, gaining lifelong friends,and promoting peace.

uestion: Can you imagine travelling to a foreign country with a group of students of your age accompaniedby a responsible leader? How many situations will you experience ? How many people will you meet? How muchof the language will you learn?

Answer: As many as you wish, because everyday will bedifferent and you will have the opportunity to learn, discover, explore, exchange and… experience.

ORIENTATION UPON ARRIVAL: You will be welcomedby the Experiment partner, stay in a hotel, and spend a fewdays discovering the capital or main city. Local youth willaccompany you on the tour to help you get a sense of thecity, its history, and day to day life. During this time, youwill get to know your group leader and fellow students,quickly making new friends with whom you will share thisadventure.

HOMESTAY: You will travel to your host community, amedium or small-sized town where a local family will hostyou. You will experience their daily life, share in their activities, learn about their local culture and practice the language. You and your host parents and siblings may alsojoin with your other group members on excursions andother cultural activities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: You will get in touch with oneor more NGOs, meeting their young staff and volunteers,

listening to what they do in favour of deprived people, education, and conservation of nature or culture. You willbe involved in their activities, help the community, and feelhow good it is to work for the progress of society. At the same time, you will get to know more about the locallife and people.

EXCURSIONS AND CULTURAL TRIPS: You will spendone or more days going to special places learning moreabout the history, art, and people who make us proud to bepart of mankind. You will visit places where great eventshappened, great monuments have been built, and/or wheregreat actions have been performed by inspiring people.

YOU: Your leader will be your reference point during yourstay. He/she will be there to explain, show, exchange, observe, and discuss all the experiences you have. Yourgroup members will be the friends who accompany you onthis journey of discovery. Your host family will care for you,make you feel at home and share their life with you.

Other youth at NGOs will show you other aspects of thesociety and help you develop your sense of solidarity and

search for progress.

Still others will guide you to historical sites showing youhow the present is related to the past and how we have toknow it to build a good future. With them you will expandyour appreciation of art and other beautiful works.

Explore the city of Buenos Aires, experiment Argentinian´s way of life,share cultures with your host family inSan Miguel de Tucumán, while you visitwonderful places, exchange with localNGOs and help a community, learningmore about their people, enjoy art,painting and music with your friends.

OBJECTIVES

• Improve your Spanish language.• Get to know the Argentine culture andthe life in a northern province. • Experience family life in a different environment.• Meet with non-profit organizationswhich are involved in activities of socialjustice, education, citizenship and leadership.• Participate in a community serviceproject. • Share your knowledge and culture withother teenagers.• Enjoy nature at its best.• Become involved in a variety of interesting activities.

FORMAT

• Buenos Aires Arrival International Airport - Transfer to 2 star hotel.

- 3 days in Buenos Aires: accommoda-tion (triples or quads) – guided activities.

• Travel to San Miguel de Tucumán bysleeper bus.

- 16 days in San Miguel de Tucumánliving with host families and taking

active part in cultural, indoor andoutdoor activities and a communityservice program.

ACTIVITIES TO BE DONE INTUCUMÁN

• Welcome and orientation to program. • 2 days of Community Service Project:Volunteer work in a soup kitchen. Partici-pants will help workers and parents torepair doors, tables, roofs, etc, and painting walls al well. Help with orchards and playing with the children.• 1 day horseback riding excursion withan experienced guide.• 1 day tour to “Tafí del Valle”: One ofthe most beautiful valleys in the world. • Trekking Experience: Participants willclimb the nearest mountain along short-cuts and have a picnic by a pond.• A guided visit to the Food Bank to learnhow they work to help people in need.• Walking tour around the main squareto see the most emblematic buildings. Aguided visit to the Government Houseand to the Museum in the IndependenceHouse. A walk to the main park wherethe first sugar cane was planted in theHouse of Bishop Colombres (the founderof the sugar industry in Tucumán).

Discover a different Brazil, a town withchrystal pure waters located 2 hours fromthe capital city of São Paulo. Experiment thelocal way of life with the simplicity of its7.000 inhabitants and their customs, this isMonte Alegre do Sul. You will get to knowincredible and interesting places. You willcollaborate with an NGO doing volunteeringactivities that will allow you understandhow people of a different cultural and socialcondition live.

OBJECTIVES

• Participation of Portuguese lessons inorder to divulge the Portuguese language inforeign countries. • Sharing your experiences acquired duringyour stay in Brazil.• Lodge with a brazilian family where theinteraction will surely bring about new lifeexpectations enhancing the social atitudehelping the young people when maturinginto grown up persons.• Social work, cultural visits and interactionwith local young people.• Participation with local authorities, com-munities and schools.

ACTIVITIES IN MONTE ALEGRE DOSUL

• Three days (once a week) of social community volunteer work at an NGO denominated Organização Rural Ecológica.This entity fundamentally develops scholaractivities for children between 5 and 15 yearsof age that belong to the Monte Alegre doSul county. The main activies of the NGOare the provision of food, scholar, sports,cultural and handy-craft activities. These activities are based on Human Valueprogrammes. Participants will join and help

with the daily chores of the NGO.• A free day to enjoy visiting an impressivewater-fall.• A walk throughout the town of Monte Alegre do Sul, visiting the neighborhoods. Atrekking to the Cerro de Cristo where a spectacular view of Monte Alegre do Sul canbe appreciated.• One day visit to Parque de Aventura at Socorro that offers rafting.• One day visit to Serra Negra an importantcommercial town dealing in leather goodsand traditional wool articles/garments wherestudents may shop. •A cable-car may be taken to visit Christ´sstatue.•Capoeira lessons (Brazilian-african ju-jitsu).•Visit to the Acquatic Center where the students may take massage, sauna and foambaths.•Visit to the coffee and sugar-cane cachaça(brazilian rhum) farms.

An interactive learning opportunity forparticipants not only to be exposed toSouth American culture in general butalso to appreciate Chilean culture in particular. Direct daily exposure topeople, places and sites in Chile will helpparticipants gain a first-hand under-standing of the similarities, differencesand influences of Spanish culture inChile’s daily life. Encounters with thelocal youth, organizations and authoritiesto exchange views on different issues. Exploration to cities, neighborhoods andother points of cultural interest to discover history, architecture and people.Discovery of the Mapuche ethnic groupand its region. Opportunity to experi-ence new realities by contributing withsimple but meaningful volunteer work.

Main emphasis is the interactionwith Guatemalan teenagers for a cross-cultural sharing besides visits to themain touristic/cultural places of Guatemala.You will enjoy a great experience in the landof "The cradle of Maya civilization", the itinerary includes lots of learning, travel,adventure, fun and cultural immersion bystaying with Guatemalan families.
