It was so great to see all of our students proud of their achievements and sharing with their special visitors on Open Day. As part of Open Day our library was a point of interest with our annual Book Fair. We were very grateful for all the support in the library from our wonderful staff and community volunteers – and thanks also to our school community for purchasing and donating books, which will be a valued addition to the library collection. It was wonderful to see so many visitors to our classrooms. The highlight of the morning was the dancing with teachers and parents joining in on the fun to kick their heels up to the ‘Nut Bush’! The in-school celebrations were quickly followed by our extraordinarily talented recorder group traveling to Sydney to perform at the Opera House. In typical MPS style the group were singled out and asked to stand to demonstrate to the rest of the recorder players amazing talent! Well done super stars! On a final note the staff at MPS know and are very grateful for all the support from our community – we certainly are ‘the family school’ and very proud of it! Awesomely fantastic is how we described our Education Week celebrations last week! It was so great to see all of our students proud of their achievements and sharing with their special visitors on Open Day. As part of Open Day our library was a point of interest with our annual Book Fair. We were very grateful for all the support in the library from our wonderful staff and community volunteers – and thanks also to our school community for purchasing and

donating books, which will be a valued addition to the library collection. It was wonderful to see so many visitors to our classrooms. The highlight of the morning was the dancing with teachers and parents joining in on the

fun to kick

their heels up to the ‘Nut Bush’! The in-school celebrations were quickly followed by our extraordinarily talented recorder group traveling to Sydney to perform at the Opera House. In typical MPS style the group were singled out and asked to stand to demonstrate to the rest of the recorder players amazing talent! Well done super stars! On a final note the staff at

MPS know and are very grateful for all the support from our community – we certainly are ‘the family school’ and very proud of it!

Our Whole School Assembly was also a well-attended event, with Stage 1 Dance Troupe entertaining the crowd with ‘Move It, Move It’. Students were presented with Beez Neez Awards, and University of NSW ICAS Certificates. The Athletics Carnival trophies were handed out, as well as the Perpetual

Sports House Trophy, which was won by Reid House at the Athletics Carnival held at the end of Term 2. Great to see so many families supporting our school at

our assemblies!

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2016: It is time for parents to organise their child’s enrolment into Kindergarten for 2016. We have been showing many parents our beautiful Kindergarten rooms. Parents who have a pre-school child or a sibling starting Kindergarten in 2016, need to enrol now so you don’t miss out on information about our transition days. Enrolment forms are available at preschools and at our school office. Please contact the school on 6568 1800. Transition Days with visits to Kindergarten classrooms will take place on: Wednesday, 28th October 10am-11am; Wednesday, 4th November 10am-11am; and Wednesday, 11th November 9.30am – 11am. Mrs Jean Searle: The school has received the sad news that School Patron and P&C Life Member Mrs Jean Searle, passed away last Saturday. Mrs Searle was a recipient of an Order of Australia Medal, and in her childhood attended Macksville Public School. She lived across the road from the school for many years and played an active part in supporting all aspects of the school, particularly donating books to our school library. Mrs Searle’s death follows the loss of another P&C Life Member Mrs Joy Capell, who passed away two weeks ago. Best wishes to both families. Excursion Payments: Please continue to make excursion payments to our office. Year 6 excursion will run in 4 weeks, and Years 4 and 5 excursions will take place early in Term 4. ~ Trish Grace, Assistant Principal FROM THE LIBRARY: Thank you to all those who supported the Book Fair last Wednesday. It was a great success! Books are being processed into the Library and will be available soon to borrow. Book Week Parade: The Book Week Parade is fast approaching. This year the Parade will take place on Tuesday September 1st so get your thinking caps on and get dressed up as your favourite book character. The theme is “Books Light Up Your World”. I can’t wait to see what fabulous costumes our students come to school wearing!! ~ Sarah Pade Teacher/Librarian

Out And About At Macksville Public School

Proud to be a part of the Family School

Learning to walk in high heels will keep you on your toes!

Royal Far West - Healthy Kids Bus Stop

The Healthy Kids Bus Stop will be at Macksville Public School Hall between Tuesday 15th– Thursday 17th September. It is a whole-of-child screening, assessment and pathway to care program for children turning 4, or those that have turned 4 or 5 during 2015. Led by Royal Far West, this program is supported by our local health networks and Aboriginal medical services.

The program delivers a comprehensive health assessment in line with the NSW Health ‘Blue Book’. It is designed to be a fun and interactive program where children progress through health stations known as ‘bus stops’, hopping on and off at each ‘station’ in order to complete their health check. The children will receive a bus pass stamp at each station along the way. Checks include: Vision Oral health

YOU MUST REGISTER TO TAKE PART. Registration forms can be picked up at our front office.

6Y Eco-systems

Last week, as a part of their science studies on rainforests, 6Y made their own little eco-systems called ‘Terrariums’. Here’s what the students of 6Y had to say.

“We got big glass jars and put gravel in the bottom. Then we put in charcoal and potting mix. We planted little plants and decorated our little worlds with moss, rocks and mini logs. Then we sprayed them with water. The water evaporates from the soil then condenses on the glass walls and rain drops fall onto the soil. It’s great to see the water cycle in action and to see our Terrariums growing”.

The Terrariums are on display in the 6Y classroom if parents would like to come and have a look.

Administering Medication From Home

Parents please be aware that if you require our staff to administer medication of any kind to your child, the correct form needs to be filled in and signed prior to the administration of any medication. Unfortunately a note from home will not suffice.

This form can be picked up from our front office or you can download one from our school website:

Mad Scientist Alert!

Look out Macksville High! Our Year 6 classes thoroughly enjoyed a ‘taster lesson’ at the High School last week thanks to Mrs Jenny Conway. These lessons are designed to familiarise our Year 6 students with some of the aspects of High School that are different to the way we do things in Primary School. This helps to make the Transition from year 6 to Year 7 much easier.

On this visit, our students conducted science experiments in the High School laboratory.

Community Support for our Breakfast Program

Lifetime Connect financially supports our extremely popular Breakfast Program by buying the supplies we need to keep it running. Now there is a way that you can help too.

Lifetime Connect have developed a community card called ‘Connect-a-Card’. This card costs $52 a year (only $1 per week) and offers a 10 percent discount at participating local businesses on approved items.

Phillip Baldwin, Lifetime Connects business manager, said ’The money raised from the sales of the card pays for the Breakfast program and it keeps shopping local. Everyone benefits’. We would be thrilled if everyone can get behind the ‘Connect-a-Card’ and help keep our Breakfast Program running.

You can purchase a card at:-

Lifetime Connect 23 Wallace St Macksville or

Sabrina’s Beauty Shop 17 Princess St Macksville.

If you would like further information please ring 6568-2522 or go to www.lifetimeconnect.org.au
