About the Honorees

a member of the Li and Fung Group

Stanley Katz received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa and was trained in Cardiology at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. Upon completion of his training in 1978 he joined the faculty of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. From 1982 to 1991 he was Director of the Catheterization Lab at Winthrop University Hospital. He joined North Shore University Hospital in 1991 as Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Catheterization Lab. His field of expertise is interventional cardiology with a special interest in acute myocardial infarction intervention.

Dr. Katz is a Diplomat on the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified by the Subspecialty Board in Cardiovascular Disease and the Subspecialty Board in Interventional Cardiology. He is Chair, Department of Cardiology, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Cardiovascular Services, Professor, Cardiology at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, and Vice President of the International College of Angiology. He was a member of the New York State Cardiac Advisory Committee for 10 years. Dr. Katz is also a member of the American Heart Association and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Katz has served as an editorial consultant and authored or co-authored more than 50 articles. According to the New York state report on angioplasty, Dr. Katz’ interventional program at the North Shore-LIJ Health System had significantly better outcomes than the New York state average. Long Island Jewish Medical Center received a “double star,” the top designation from the health department. In addition, Dr. Katz is the principal investigator on the CoreValve US Pivotal trial for North Shore University Hospital.

Laurence Tarica is President of Jimlar Corporation (a member of the Li and Fung Group), the oldest continuously operating footwear import company in America.

Larry joined Jimlar Corporation in 1971 and served in leadership roles in sourcing, design, development, sales, and strategic planning. He became President, Chief Operating Officer in 1991 and Group President, Footwear Division, LF USA in 2011.

Before being acquired by LF USA in 2010, Jimlar was regularly recognized as one of Long Island’s largest privately held companies. Jimlar Corporation and its Frye Boot Company Division are involved in many community service initiatives, particularly as a part of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY), and led the industry effort to fight Breast Cancer. Jimlar also played a major role in Project A.L.S.’ recent efforts to fund a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease. In 2005 Larry was honored by The Two Ten Foundation with the shoe industry’s highest honor, The T. Kenyon Holly Humanitarian Award. In 2011, Larry was inducted into the Footwear Industry Hall of Fame.

Larry serves on the boards of Project A.L.S, The American Jewish Committee, New Media Investment Group, J. D’Addario and

Company, and Stuart Levine Associates. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance

and Commerce.

Larry is happily married for 34 years to wife Pamela. Loving daughters Jane, 31, and Sarah, 29, are both very creative and are a teacher and the Frye Brand Manager, respectively.
