The handle of your cleaner haspositions: upright for storage

and for when using cleaning tools; oper-ating position for general operation oncarpets and floors; low for reachingunder low furniture. Step on handlerelease pedal (E),then pull handle backto lower handle.

Embedded DirtFINDER TM

feature (some models)

With red and green lights, theDirtFINDER TMsystem alerts the

user to areas of carpet that may needmore cleaning attention. It is able tosense when embedded dirt is removed.

The clean light (green) will remain onthroughout cleaning except when thedetector sensesthat a larger amount ofdirt is being picked up; then the dirtylight (red) will come on.

When the dirty light is on, you shouldtake additional cleaningstrokes in thearea until it changes to clean.

Cleaning lightweightflexible rugs

Q tand on one end of rug an(] movecleaner toward other end. Beforereaching edge, push down on handle.This will lift up the nozzle and will pre-vent the rug from clinging to the cleaner.Continue to lift up nozzle so that whenyou have reached the edge, it is com-pletely off the rug. Move cleaner back tostart again, lower nozzle, and use onlyforward strokes.

Edge cleaning

_[_ pecial edge groomers are provid-ed on both sidesof the front of thecleaner to remove dirt in carpet nearbaseboardsand furniture.

Guide either side parallel to the edge ofcarpet or furniture.

Using the tools

Tools allow for cleaning surfaces abovethe floor and for reaching hard to cleanareas. The cleaner is ready for tool usewhen the handle is in the upright posi-tion.

Note: When handle is in upright posi-tion, agitator brush roll is automaticallyOFF.

Tools may be attached to the telescop-ing handle/wand or directly to thehose (see Fig. 23).

Attach tool to wand or hose bypushing it firmly onto the end of

the wand or hose. Twist tool slightlyto tighten or loosen the connection.

For optimum performance of the pow-ered pet hair cleaning tool, attach itdirectly to the hose.

The hose can be removed from the

handle grip by depressing the buttonand pulling away from the wand. (Fig.5)

When using cleaning tools, thecleaner can go with you. Placehand under the Tag Along TM grip (A),tilt cleaner back on rear wheels andpull.

How to clean tools

To clean the hose and the poweredhand tool, wipe off dirt with a clothdampened in a mild detergent. Rinsewith a damp cloth. Do not submergepowered pet hair cleaning tool inwater.

Cleaning tools may be washed inwarm water with a detergent. Rinse

and air dry before using.

Extra Reach TM hose

(some models)

Some models include an ExtraReachT_ hose to provide you with a20 foot reach (when connected to theregular hose), to allow easier cleaningof stairs and hard to reach highplaces.Press POWER button to turn cleanerOFF. Remove regular hose fromhandle/wand. (Fig. 5)

floor brush. Attach the floor brush to theend of the telescoping handle/wand.Extend the telescoping wand to reachthe floor.

Stair cleaning

Q se the hose and the poweredpet hair cleaning tool for stair

cleaning.

Always place the cleaner at the bottomof the stairs. Clean from bottom to top.

CAUTION: To avoid personal injury, andto prevent the cleaner from falling, useextra care if the cleaner is placed onstairs.

NOTE: Maximum performance of thepowered hand tool will be achieved ifthe powered pet hair cleaning tool isused on the end of the hose without the

telescoping wand.

Familiarize yourself with these homemaintenance tasksas proper use andcare of your cleaner will ensure contin-ued cleaning effectiveness.

Dirt cup

When to empty

It is recommended that the dirt cup beemptied after every use or before the dirtreachesthe top of the dirt cup.

How to empty

Disconnect cleaner from electrical out-

let. Do not use cleaner without dirt cupor filters in place.

Place the cleaner in the upright positionbefore removing dirt cup.

To remove cup (A), press latch (B)to release. Pivot cup outward.

HEPA filter

Q epressbutton (C) on back of dirtcup to release door (D). Empty

dirt cup into trash receptacle. Close doorfirmly to latch.

The dirt cup may also be emptied bylifting offthe lid and emptying into atrash receptacle. Replace lid beforereturning dirt cup to position.

QTo replace dirt cup, place bottomof dirt cup in first. Pivot cup into

cleaner body.

Pre-filter screen

Your cleaner is equipped with aself-cleaning HEPA filter.

This filter is NOT removable.

If you notice that the filter is rotatingslower than normal or not rotating, referto the Troubleshooting section. If youfeel that this filter needs replacement,take your cleaner to an AuthorizedHoover Sales and Service Center.

Q While the cleaner is in operation,the pre-filter screen(A) will stoplarger debris from entering the HEPA fil-ter chamber. This larger debris will beseen collecting in the largerchamber ofthe dirt cup (B).The HEPAfilter will col-lect fine particles that have passedthrough the pre-filter screen. The HEPAfilter cleans itself while rotating, deposit-ing fine debris in the smaller chamber ofthe dirt cup (C).

The cleaner will continue to perform atmaximum cleaning levels if the pre-filterscreen is cleaned each time the dirt cupis emptied (see Fig. 34).

O isconnect cleaner from electricaloutlet. Do not use cleaner withoutdirt cup or filters in place.

The pre-filter screen (A), located insidethe dirt cup lid, is removable and canbe cleaned using the cleaner's dustingbrush or washed in cold water and amild detergent. Rinse and let filter airdry completely before repositioning.

To remove this filter, remove the dirtcup and the dirt cup lid. Brush orwash, air dry and replace the dirt cuplid.

The agitator brush roll belt is designed tolast the lifetime of the cleaner. It typical-

ly should not need replacement. If youfeel the agitator brush roll belt needs tobe checked or replaced, take yourcleaner to an Authorized HooverSales and Service Center. Do not

attempt to remove the agitator brushroll belt.

How to replace

Q1. Remove tool from hose andturn it so bottom faces up. Press

the latches on either side of tool andremove bottom plate (A).

Q2. Unscrew the two Phillipsscrews and remove belt guard(B).

3. Remove agitator })rush rollincluding end plates (C) and

discard.

4. Inspect belt to ensure that it is ingood condition. If belt is cracked,gouged or broken, replace it (see fol-lowing section).

6. With curved ends down,slide end plates (C) of agitator

Replace and tighten screws.

8. To replace bottom plate (A),insert the four tabs on edge of

bottom plate into slots on front oftool.

Belt replacement

Inspect the belt

The powered pet hair (leaning tool beltis designed to last a long time and isnot normally replaced. However, if thebelt is cracked, gouged or broken, itshould be replaced.

Remove tool from hose. The belt canbe seen through the top of the nozzleor by removing the bottom plate andbelt guard (Figs. 46 and 47).

Replace belt

When replacing belt, ask forHOOVER part No. 38528037.

1. Remove bottom plate, belt guardand agitator brush roll as described inFigs. 46 through 48.

_i_2. Grasp turbine (E) and pullfirmly to remove.

3. Remove belt from turbine pulley(F). Replace with new belt.

4. With flat sides of turbineretainers (G) pointing down,slide retainers into grooves (H) in toolhousing and snap into place.

5. Replace agitator brush roll, beltguard, and bottom plate as describedin Figs. 50 through 52.

Thermal protector

An internal thermal protector has beendesigned into your cleaner to protect itfrom overheating.

When the thermal protector activates,the cleaner will stop running. If thishappens, proceed as follows:1. Turn the cleaner OFF and discon-nect it from the electrical outlet.

2. Check secondary and final filters fordirt accumulation.

3. Refer to "Clearing blockages" sec-tion.

4. When cleaner is unplugged and themotor cools for 30 minutes, the ther-mal protector automatically resets ant[cleaning may continue.

If the thermal protector continues toactivate after following the above steps,your cleaner may need servicing (see"Service" section.

Agitator brush roll stall

If the agitator brush roll stalls due to adebris such as hair, strings, etc., thecleaner will automatically stop run-ning.Disconnect cleaner from the electri-cal outlet.

Turn the cleaner over and remove anydebris that may have accumulated onthe agitator brush roll. Plug the clean-er back in and press the ON/OFF but-ton once to turn cleaner on.

2. Revise si se ha acumulado
