AG SCULPTURE TRAIL ADDITION:

On Saturday, June 10, Art Guild members and

guests gathered for the formal dedication of

the newest addition to the AG Sculpture Trail. “Catbird Dancer” is a colorful, whimsical,

two-sided metal sculpture created by artist

Gwendolyn (Gwendy) Kerney.

One side of “Catbird Dancer” depicts a black

& white male cat dressed in a tuxedo and the

other side is a black, pink, and white female

cat whose red heart beams from her chest. A

two-sided blue catbird is perched on their paws. Made possible by the FFG Rotary & AG members, Sara Flohr & Kay Wode.

We’re thrilled to have Gwendy’s “Catbird Dancer” on the trail. Enjoy!

"PASS IT ON” PROJECT: Did you sign up last year to work with the "PASS IT ON"

project? Remember? You were to do a picture of a basket and a

pot that was passed around. You used those items in your piece,

which can also include any other items you choose. We will be

showing that group of paintings, photos, etc. along with the

Artist of the Month during September. So, you have a few

months to finish your piece and bring it in for the Sept. hanging. If you wish to join in this project, please call Le Voss to get

the pot and basket.

Thanks, Le

A heartfelt thank you to all for helping to make our 4th annual

Art in the Park a success! I couldn’t put it together without you! You are amazing sponsors for the outreach to the community. Working to put the event together, donating your time, talents,

money, support and dedication to the Guild. A special thank you for Sunday, with the clean-up, take-down

& put-away. Even though we were all tired, it was particularly

appreciated. I am so grateful for your continued support and can't begin to

thank you enough for making me look good… priceless!!! Looking forward to 2018!! SAVE THE DATES!! June 9 & 10th! Billie Faye Brannon, Event Chairman

Marilyne Bartos received the following email from a teacher in Crab Orchard looking to inspire her students with art to read. She

requested that this be done between July 7-18, which is quite short notice. If you are interested in this project and feel you could help

complete it by the requested dates, please contact Marilyne Bartos @ [email protected]. Thank you, Linda Carr

Hi Marilyne, Thank you for speaking with me the other day. I am very interested in exploring the idea of having some volunteers help me paint my

classroom. This idea is stemming from a TED talk that I listened to the other day. An architect and designer worked together to

enhance the school libraries of inner city schools in New York to make them more appealing to youth. They did this by repainting the

walls and adding murals throughout the libraries of books, children reading books and common characters in children literature. Now

more and more children are availing of the library and books are moving off the shelf at a faster rate than ever before. A little background knowledge about me is that I grew up in FFG and used the arts and crafts building for years! After college I

moved to FL then CA and taught at public and private schools. I spent the majority of time teaching at very prestigious private schools

in Santa Monica, CA where I got a taste of fantastic resources and beautiful classrooms. I moved home almost two years ago. I took a

year off to just relax and find my footing, and then was lucky enough to be offered a position at Homestead school and Crab Orchard.

After praying and thinking about the offers, I knew Crab Orchard was my perfect place. A year later, here I am trying to make my

classroom the best learning space possible and I need my FFG family to help me. I teach fifth and sixth grade language arts and I

need to strike while the iron is hot and engage my readers before I lose them. To be perfectly honest, the majority of my male readers

would rather be out hunting or fishing than reading. And, my young girls would rather be on Facebook or trying out new makeup

techniques. Only about 30% of my students actually enjoy reading, so I am hopeful by making my room a bright, positive, exciting

place to be it will entice my students to read. That is where the art guild comes in! I need your ideas and manpower to make my room

come to life. I’d welcome the opportunity to talk with the board president as well as anyone else to discuss what can be done. I need to make the

magical transformation happen July 7-18, if possible. I am willing to work hard alongside a team of artists/volunteers and am open to

any suggestions and ideas. I can discuss ideas over the phone this week if that works for your group of people. My cell number is 931-

200-0651 and personal email address is [email protected].

Thank you, Lindsey
