Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members, After our celebration of Father’s Day, we have the beginning of Summer ready to greet us, marked on the church’s calendar by John the Baptist’s birthday, June 24. John the Baptist is a very intriguing figure, both in the context of his earthly life and as a saint of the church. He is the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, both of whom had trouble believing the God could help them conceive a child in their advanced years. Since “nothing is impossible with God”, they did exactly this. Mary, Mother of Jesus, was there as a midwife when it was time for Elizabeth to give birth. Jesus and John the Baptist were cousins. We knew John was familiar with Jesus since he reacted with such joy in Elizabeth’s womb when Our Blessed Mother, carrying Jesus in her womb, visited Elizabeth six months into her pregnancy and stayed with her until John’s birth. We don’t hear of John and Jesus being together again in Sacred Scripture until Jesus is baptized by John in the Jordan River. John is considered to be the last of the prophets to announce the coming of Jesus since Jesus began his public ministry when he heard of John’s arrest by King Herod. Jesus also calls him the greatest. He preaches the coming of the Messiah while standing in the middle of the Jordan River (the strength in his thighs must have been amazing!) and announced that the best way to prepare for his coming was to repent and reform your life. Those society rejected took to heart his message. When the Pharisees showed up to see what all the “fuss” was about, he had no trouble “calling them out” for who they truly were in front of the crowd. John would eventually be placed in jail for telling Herod it is unlawful to marry his brother’s wife. He would then be executed because of a promise Herod made to his stepdaughter. John was uncompromising when it came to standing in the Light of Truth, even to the point of making others uncomfortable at the risk of his own life. Let us value the truth our Catholic faith stands for and how the blood of the martyrs shed for it has helped so many seeds of faith grow in knowledge of it.

Gratefully yours in Christ, Fr. Steve

Baby Shower Thank You!

We are deeply grateful to all who participated in our annual

St. Edward Baby Shower. Thanks to your generosity we were able to donate

many bags of baby clothes and care items as well as over $1,000 to

Pregnancy Help! These gifts are a practical sign of the commitment our parish community has made to support a "culture of life and a civilization of love." Please continue to pray for all

unborn children and mothers who face the choice of abortion. May God's grace and the support of others enable them

to experience the fullness of life.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

Do you know someone that is thinking about joining the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

(RCIA) might peak their interest. This is a process that offers individuals who may be interested in the Catholic Church an opportunity to examine the faith in a friendly,

relaxed atmosphere. RCIA is not a course or class in Catholicism.

Rather, it is a gradual, guided process of formation leading participants towards initiation into the Catholic Church.

Initiation into the Church is marked by the celebration of three sacraments as needed: Baptism, Confirmation, and

Holy Eucharist. Please email Mary Sheedy – [email protected]

for further information.

Do you have an interest in learning how to use video equipment?

St. Edward and Medfield TV are looking for a few volunteers to film Masses and other events!

We would like to video tape our church events and share them with others, especially those unable to

attend them in person.

Medfield TV will train the volunteers to use video equipment and will

teach them techniques involved in producing the best quality videos.

For more information, please contact:

Terry Davis: [email protected]

St. Vincent de Paul Society Collection Box accepts clean,

useable clothing. Charitable donations to benefit persons in need can be dropped in the box located at the rear of St. Edward’s

parking lot.

Faith Formation registration is still open.

Please see our website to register.

Hope for Emily

St. Edward parishioner, Emily O'Donnell, age 21, has struggled with serious health issues for many years and has found new hope to rid herself of chronic neurologic Lyme disease and regain her life. The family would like to share her GoFundMe campaign. The funds will help cover the cost of her 3-week treatment at a clinic in Germany with proven success in helping people beat Lyme disease where other methods have failed. Here is the link: gf.me/u/tdg483

Please keep in your prayers Alex Burrell (Navy), John Donald Tamulionis (Army) and Peter Barrette, (Navy, plebe) who are courageously serving our country.

Prayers for Our Service Men and Women

We would like to offer our prayers for the service men and women

in our community. If there is someone in our church community or someone you would like to

honor who is serving our country, please email Marybeth Rippberger

@ [email protected] or Eileen Trinity

@ [email protected]

The St. Edward Parking Lot repaving is

now tentatively scheduled for the week of July 1.

These dates are not set in stone as we are at the mercy of the weather and contractor schedules.

We will keep you updated.
