MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members,

Praised be Jesus Christ!

A parishioner passed this quote along to me:

“Anxieties can gray the whole sky like cloud cover or descend on our whole horizon like fog. When we rename our anxieties, in a sense we distill them into requests. What covered the whole sky can now be contained in a couple of buckets. So, when we’re suffering from anxiety, we can begin by simply holding the word help before God, letting that one word bring focus to the chaos of our racing thoughts. Once we feel that our mind has dropped out of the frantic zone and into a spirit of connection with God, we can let the general word help go and in its place hold more specific words that name what we need, thereby condensing the cloud of vague anxiety into a bucket of substantial request. So we might hold the word guidance before God. Or patience. Or courage. Or resilience. Or boundaries, mercy, compassion, determination, healing, calm, freedom, wisdom, or peace. . . .”

It is from Brian D. McLaren’s Naked Spirituality.

As the news of COVID-19’s spread becomes more and more disheartening, we cannot help but feel anxious and worry. There are many types of “coping mechanisms” being suggested. However, if they do not acknowledge our total dependence on God as well as that God loves and cares for each of us as individuals, then the peace it claims to offer will only penetrate our being so far. We are designed to be God-centered. Jesus did all of the self-emptying for us. It is our job to make room for and fill ourselves up with God. This can only be done in a spirit of humility that acknowledges our dependence on God.

May I also suggest that, next time you read, listen to, or watch the news, ask yourself what exactly do you want to know, and turn it off once you find it out. At a stress reduction conference I attended decades ago, the presenter assured us that each one of us has someone in our lives that will tell us the news if it was that important for us to know about. I have no doubt that this is still the case, especially since news is so available now. Use the extra time to pray, spend time in quiet, listen to calming music, go through family photos or some other reminder of happier times, or to engage in a hobby. I am working on my family tree when I find the time. It allows me to honor those members’ memory and bring their souls to prayer.

Let us always remember that we are not alone. We have God and each other. Let us always acknowledge our dependency and our need for help.

Gratefully yours in Christ,

Fr. Steve

Important update from Fr. Steve

Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members, Praised be Jesus Christ! During these days dominated by the news and reality of COVID-19, I have tried to keep, as much as I can, our church buildings accessible during these trying times for personal prayer and devotion. Many of you have expressed your appreciation for this effort. However, with all the news of late, I have decided, in the interest of public safety, to follow the Archdiocese guidelines and, therefore, both of the Collaborative’s churches will be closed as of Monday, April 6. The Archdiocese, therefore, encourages that the Holy Eucharist be placed in a window on parish property in order that parishioners are still able to be in the presence of and venerate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

At St. Jude’s, the Holy Eucharist will be able to be viewed in its monstrance in the window of the church’s sacristy overlooking the main parking lot.

At St. Edward’s, the Holy Eucharist will be displayed in

its monstrance in the windows of the main doors to the church.

I ask you to stop by, even if it may be in your car, and take a moment to pray to our Lord as you gaze upon him in the Holy Eucharist. Confessions will still be made available at the prescribed times. I respectfully ask that you follow the instructions that will be posted on how to wait before entering Confession. Please know I am always grateful for your patience and support, especially as we head into Holy Week. The TV schedule for Masses and services will be posted next week. Gratefully yours in Christ, Fr. Steve

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Listen carefully to the passion of Christ as it unlocks the door

that brings us to the true meaning of human life. Holding what seems like opposite polarities of human existence, it weaves us through the highest of triumphs and the darkest of tragedies. As we witness and meditate upon Jesus’s last

days on earth, we see most vividly that God is present in and through it all. God is not only the glue that holds all of

life’s seemingly opposing experiences together, but He is the One who offers incredible promise and hope on our road to fulfillment and eternal life. It was only through experiencing

the burning agony of suffering’s loneliness and heart-wrenching pain that Jesus experienced the joyful exultation of his resurrected self. There are profound lessons here for

all of us to learn. ©LPi

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK - REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE

First Reading The prophet Isaiah speaks of his commitment to his calling

regardless of the consequences he suffers. Who do you see today modeling this depth of faith?

Second Reading This Christological hymn in Philippians is one of the earliest attempts by believers to define who Jesus is. What do you find interesting or provocative about how Jesus is defined

here? Gospel Reading

Matthew’s passion narrative has a number of unique details, including the report of “the saints” rising from their tombs

and appearing to “many” after Jesus’ resurrection. What do you think Matthew was teaching us with the inclusion of this

episode? ©LPi

and underwear for women and girls who are homeless or living in very low income situations, in order to help them stay healthy,

regain self-confidence, and live with basic dignity. Donations of pads (all types, including Depends), tampons, new underwear

and new/gently used bras may be left in the blue bin in the lobby. Contact Laurie Mills @ [email protected] to

get involved with this organization! We are always looking for volunteers to help us with drives and in our warehouse.

Haley House Soup Kitchen Ministry

There is a box outside the Faith Formation Office. - Volunteers Needed to Provide Meals Would you like to help provide meals? Please consider joining a team of parishioners providing meals to people at the Haley House shelter in Boston. We have 3 teams of volunteers that collaborate to supply a monthly meal of Chili, salad, fresh fruit and juice. Each team donates four times per year. We have periodic “retirements” from this program, so we’re always looking for new people to join the ministry. It’s a simple way to make a difference. Just deliver the specified donation (to feed 15 people) to the home of a Medfield driver on a Sunday morning once every 3 months. Please call Martha Festa (508-359-5991) to be put on the list to fill future donor assignments.

MEDFIELD FOOD CUPBOARD

donations. Please know that we are well prepared to continue distributing food to our clients and have an

emergency plan in place.

Thank you for your support.

Lazarus Funeral Ministry Needs Your Help! Please join St. Edward’s funeral ministry to support our parish families grieving the loss of a loved one. We are looking for

individuals to be Sacristans assisting the priest and individuals to greet families and friends at the church doors when they arrive for a funeral mass. Full training is provided. This commitment is

requested a few times per year pending your availability. Please contact Marge Costa at 508-359-7096 or

[email protected] if interested.

ST JUDE- NORFOLK FOOD PANTRY

As we begin the Season of Lent, let us remember those who are less fortunate. The Food Pantry is always in need

of canned goods (vegetables, soups, pasta, fruit, etc.) cereal, and toiletries.

The Norfolk Food pantry continues to be thankful for our generous contributions which benefit the members of our

community.

Per Town of Norfolk: No open packages, no expired

dates, no packages without expiration dates appearing can be accepted

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Collection Box accepts clean, useable clothing.

Charitable donations to benefit persons in need can be dropped in

the box located at the rear of St. Edward’s parking lot.

Solidarity Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose

between preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close remember

those who have no options. May we who have to cancel our trips remember

those that have no place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those

who have no margin at all. May we who settle in for a quarantine at home

remember those who have no home. During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us yet find ways

to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

Amen.
