We appreciate that purchasing quality LED lighting products from suppliers that consistently deliver excellent results and value for money is tough in any market, especially with the number of manufacturers growing monthly. Our aim is to be a supplier that you can trust, with credibility and a track record of providing quality, innovative products at competitive prices.

NET LED was established in 2009 and partners with manufacturers based in the UK and around the world to distribute a wide range of commercial LED products on their behalf.

However, we recognise the need for more than just great products and so strive to achieve excellence in customer experience, consumer value, employee talent, and consistent growth. This combination of quality products and outstanding customer service is our route to achieving our mission: “to be the premier manufacturers’ distributor of LED lighting products”.

We distribute through resellers, including national electrical wholesalers, being a preferred supplier in many cases, and through hundreds of independent electrical wholesalers.

Operating from purpose-built offices and warehouse distribution facilities in Cambridge, we hold large stocks available for same day dispatch for orders placed up to 5 p.m. for distribution across the UK and Ireland.

Our supply chain and processes are all accredited to ISO 9001 and 14001 ensuring the highest standards for quality and environmental management. These quality standards are further endorsed as NET LED is an approved member of the Lighting Industry Association.

NET LED is an official licensee and member of the Philips LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs Licensing Program covering Philips’ patented technologies which are incorporated in many commercial LED products, allowing you to purchase in confidence.

As part of your distribution chain, we recognise the importance of providing a quality, reliable service so that you are able to do the same for your customers.

We work with our strategic distribution partner UPS to provide a next working day delivery service for all orders placed before 5 p.m. (please allow up to 48 hours for Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man). Delivery can be direct to your branch, or to a UPS Access Point for your customer to collect.

We offer the opportunity to order through our web portal or via our dedicated Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system. Ordering in these ways feeds directly into our warehouse team’s hand-held laser barcode scanners, streamlining your processes and ours, allowing us to pick and pack your orders with speed and accuracy.

Ordering by EDI is also great for the environment, moving order processes from paper to digital.

LED Panel Lights are versatile and reliable. Incorporating surface-mount device (SMD) technology, they distribute light evenly across the surface of the panel.

As retrofit units replacing fluorescent tube fittings, LED Panel Lights are designed to sit in most standard ceiling grids.

Maintenance-free and with a useful light expectancy of more than 50,000 hours, LED Panel Lights provide exceptional energy savings and slash maintenance costs usually associated with replacing and recycling fluorescent tubes.

LED Panel Lights are available in edge and back-lit versions, four sizes, two colour temperatures, and with a range of additional features, including 3 Hour Emergency Kits, DALI and 1-10V dimming and suspension and surface mounting options.

A new edge-lit bi-colour LED Panel allows for selectable colour temperature - 4500K or 5500K in one unit. This product also delivers light at a lower UGR rating.

Surface Mount Box for LED Panel

The Surface Mount Box for LED Panels provides a slim option for mounting LED Panels on a surface that has no void behind it. The frame has a depth of 50mm to accommodate the LED Panel driver and optional 3 Hour Emergency Kit.

The frame has a smooth silver finish.

Supplied as an easy-to-assemble kit form, the box comes complete with screws and rawl plugs.

Suspension Kit for LED Panel

Wire suspension kits for LED Panels provide various installation options by allowing them to be suspended from higher or angled ceilings with the LED driver and optional 3 Hour Emergency Kit located on top of the LED panel.

The kits are height-adjustable up to a maximum length of 1m, and come complete with screws and rawl plugs.

Suitable for use with 500x500mm and 600x600mm Panel Lights only.


3 Hour Emergency Kit for LED Panel & Grid Luminaire

All LED Panel Lights are compatible with our 3 Hour Emergency Kits, maintaining the units in emergency situations for no less than 3 hours. Our Emergency Kits are manufactured by Liteplan.

THE PROJECT

Fish Brothers Group is a family owned new and used car dealership with a number of branches operating in Swindon.

Having already installed a large number of solar panels on the roofs of their dealerships, the company was looking to further reduce its carbon footprint and energy spend by installing LED lighting in and around its premises.

THE SOLUTION

During 2013, LED Tubes and Panel Lights were selected to light the car showrooms and office areas for their light output and ease of installation. Internal drivers and long life-expectancy (50,000 working hours) made the LED solutions reliable as well as energy efficient.

LED Flood Lights were selected for the dealerships’ outdoor lighting. The high lumen output and weather-proof IP65 housing made them perfect for the application and maintenance-free.

LED Floods were also used as low bay fittings within Fish Brothers’ repair garages, providing great reliable light coverage over a wide area.

THE RESULT By incorporating LED Tubes, Panels and Flood Lights into its energy plan Fish Brothers has made savings of around 65% on the costs usually incurred by traditional lighting, and has made a significant reduction to its carbon footprint.

Summary

THE PROJECT

Viridor is one of the UK’s leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies. Viridor is part of Pennon Group Plc, a FTSE 100 British based plc focused on the water and waste management industries.

As a market leader in recycling and reuse of waste, Viridor partners with local councils, helping them meet waste prevention, recycling and landfill diversion targets. The company also provides the private sector with integrated recycling, waste management and specialist solutions.

Viridor operates from a range of sites, including 20 Materials Recycling Facilities, two Energy from Waste plants and 22 Landfills. It chose LED Panel lights for under floor lighting in the reception at the Viridor Head Office in Taunton, Somerset.

THE SOLUTION

To create a stylish and environmentally friendly lighting solution in the reception of Viridor Head Office, a number of 40W 1200x300mm Panel Lights were installed in the floor and overlaid with protective square glass covers. This produced a state of the art, low energy and zero maintenance, lighting feature, in keeping with the company’s sustainability philosophy.

THE RESULT Viridor was delighted with the aesthetic results of the under floor lighting.

Being installed in the floor, it was important that the lighting should not require any maintenance, as would be needed with fluorescent tubes which also use ballasts requiring maintenance. The LED Panel Lights are maintenance-free and do not use any other control gear such as ballasts, so with their life expectancy of over 50,000 hours, this gave over three times the life when compared with the equivalent fluorescent technology.

In addition to the maintenance savings, had fluorescent lighting been used, two 4ft tubes with ballasts would run at approximately 78W to give the equivalent light output of one of the LED Panel Lights which runs at only 40W, so considerable energy savings are also being made.

THE PROJECT

At the heart of The British Library in London, the King’s Library Tower houses books collected by King George III (reigned 1760-1820). It is considered one of the most significant collections of the Enlightenment, containing books printed mainly in Britain, Europe and North America from the mid 15th to the early 19th centuries, with 65,000 volumes of printed books, and 19,000 pamphlets.

The collection’s home is the six-storey King’s Library Tower, designed specifically for the purpose. The books are on view to visitors behind UV-filter glass which, together with the environmental control system, helps maintain appropriate light, temperature and humidity levels.

THE SOLUTION

After a technical evaluation, LED tubes were chosen to light this precious collection. Using the latest solid-state, surface-mount LED technology, 32W 1800mm (6ft) LED T8 Tubes could achieve the precise colour temperature and lighting levels whilst reducing the power consumption by over 60%.

Additional savings are also achieved in running the environmental control system, as the heat output of an LED Tube is significantly less than that of a fluorescent.

THE RESULT Commenting on the installation of the LED Tubes, Patrick Dixon, Head of Building Services at The British Library said: “Unlike fluorescent tubes, the LED Tubes produce no UV light which would be damaging to the books. They also use only a third of the electricity of fluorescents and last over three times longer, providing significant environmental and financial benefits for the Library.”

As well as being widely used for lighting in offices, factories, hospitals and retail outlets, LED Tubes provide an ideal lighting solution for museums and galleries as they do not emit any UV light, and they are available in a range of colour temperatures with reliable colour rendering. They only use a third of the electricity of equivalent fluorescents which also has the benefit of reduced heat output when lighting valuable collections.

THE PROJECT

When Prankash Puntambekar (Ash) decided he would rebuild his Nisa store in Fenstanton, Cambridgeshire, he was adamant that it would be built with the environment in mind.

Together with his contracted electrician, Terry Wager, he contacted NET LED Lighting to discuss what the implications were for substituting energy efficient LED tubes for the conventional fluorescent tube.

THE SOLUTION

From an environmental point of view, the LED Tubes are made in such a way that they contain none of the harmful chemicals found in fluorescent tubes.

More importantly however for Ash was the fact that by using the 127 LED Tubes he required, he would reduce his store’s annual carbon footprint by 10,674 kg CO2, when compared to the equivalent fluorescent tubes.

This means a total life time saving, given the longer life span of the LED Tube of 73,107 kg

CO2.

THE RESULT Ash was also impressed with the comparative financial energy savings, which for a store of his size was in the region of £2,186 per annum, or £14,975 over the tubes’ lifetime.

Furthermore, when the reduced maintenance replacement costs that are involved in changing and disposing of fluorescent tubes are added to the financial energy savings, Ash should see an overall lifetime saving of £23,000, providing a five fold return on his initial investment!

CASE STUDY | NEWTON ABBOT RECREATIONAL TRUST

THE PROJECT

The Newton Abbot Recreational Trust operates out of five squash courts and five (four outdoor, one indoor) tennis courts. These play host to tournaments, competitions and a full calendar of friendly games, so quality, reliable lighting is essential.

The club had been replacing fluorescent tubes for more than 20 years, and costs were mounting. These tubes would reportedly often blow-out, and the fluorescent ballasts would fail, forcing the courts to close down for periods while they were replaced. Reaching the courts’ high ceilings meant this downtime could be a significant and frustrating problem for the club’s members - both financially and logistically.

THE SOLUTION

LED NCF Luminaire products were specified for the job. Resembling a traditional batten fitting, the NCF Luminaire incorporates rows of SMD LEDs mounted on a plate within a robust diffuser. A cool white 5500K colour temperature and colour rendering index greater than 80 ensures lighting is crisp and bright in appearance, and surroundings are rendered in true-to-life colours.

With a lifetime expectancy upwards of 50,000 hours and IP65-rated housing, the burden of maintenance and downtime to replace fluorescent tubes has been eliminated.

The all-polycarbonate housing is completely shatterproof, making it safe for use around volatile sports equipment. It is also rendered dust and moisture-proof by the completely sealed IP65-rated enclosure.

THE RESULT

With LED NCF Luminaires, Newton Abbot Squash and Tennis Club is expected to save 55% on their energy spend. Maintenance needs have also diminished, as well as the associated costs, due to the fixtures’ 50,000 hour lifespans.

THE PROJECT

The Big Yellow Self Storage Company is a UK-based self-storage company providing solutions for homes and businesses. Operating out of 77 purpose-built storage facilities across the country, it offers spaces ranging from three foot to several thousand square feet.

As part of its continuous drive to reduce its carbon footprint, Big Yellow started a programme to replace existing fluorescent light fittings with LED equivalents. An operation of this size called for a reliable company with a quality product that delivered excellent light output, significant electricity savings and a long maintenance-free life expectancy.

THE SOLUTION

Before committing to a large-scale roll-out, Big Yellow conducted monitored trials with several LED lighting manufacturers to find a good quality retrofit LED tube. During this trial period, Big Yellow tested light output, energy consumption and appearance of several LED tubes within its storage facilities. After coming out top in these criteria, Toppo LED products were selected for installation across eight Big Yellow stores in 2012.

Following the successful installations, and with significant energy savings already achieved, Big Yellow accelerated its installation programme and installed in excess of 35,000 LED tubes in a further 34 stores in 2013.

THE RESULT

Since making the switch to LED, the company is now operating under high quality LED lighting while making substantial savings on its overheads.

By incorporating the LED tubes, Big Yellow reduced energy costs incurred by lighting by 65%. In addition, the company has seen a significant saving on maintenance costs, as the LED lighting has a life expectancy of more than 50,000 working hours.

THE PROJECT

Red Funnel is an integrated transport, travel and leisure company employing some 400 people in Southampton and on the Isle of Wight. Operating the largest ferry service to and from the island, Red Funnel carries over 3 million passengers each year.

The company historically incorporated fluorescent tubes in the passenger loading bays of its ferries and metal halide flood lights on deck and on their jetties. As part of their commitment to reducing energy and maintenance costs, Red Funnel chose LED Lighting for its solution.

THE SOLUTION

Because of the nature of Red Funnel’s operations, certain areas are in constant use and therefore require quality, reliable lighting at all times. CASE STUDY | REIGATE & BANSTEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL

THE PROJECT

Bancroft Road Car Park has 5 floors and contained 350 standard fluorescent tubes of various sizes (1800mm (6ft) at 72W and 1500mm (5ft) at 59W including ballasts).

The annual power consumption for the site was 229,959 kW at a cost of £26,444 per annum. With the aid of Salix funding an energy saving solution needed to be implemented.

THE SOLUTION

Following a successful trial of LED Tubes, a complete refit of the car park lighting was undertaken replacing all 350 tubes.

The 1800mm (6ft) 72W fluorescents were replaced with LED Tubes consuming only 22W and the 1500mm (5ft) 59W fluorescents with 18W LED Tubes.

The work was undertaken by DH Croft Ltd.

THE RESULT The end result not only provided a far better level of lighting, as can be clearly seen in the 2 photos, but more importantly, following detailed power consumption monitoring before and after the installation, the annual savings are calculated at £13,390. This equates to a carbon footprint reduction of 67 tonnes CO2.

In addition to these savings, the ongoing maintenance costs will also be greatly reduced as the expected life of the new LED Tubes is in excess of 50,000 hours (11 years assuming 12 hours usage per day).

Digitally Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) is a data protocol and transfer mechanism that facilitates dimming control and network connectivity for changing light levels in an environment.

1-10V dimming enables analogue stepless dimming for our LED Panels and Downlights. This is a straightforward option for flexible control of light levels from 100% light output down to 10% with a linear progression.

THE PROJECT

Hertfordshire Constabulary’s policing style and organisation is designed to provide a modern, flexible force and an effective policing service for Hertfordshire.

Consistent with these objectives is the desire to be environmentally responsible, so during 2010 and 2011 Herts Constabulary installed hundreds of 600mm (2ft) LED Tubes in place of the old fluorescents.

THE SOLUTION

During 2010, 802 600mm (2ft) LED Tubes running at 8W were installed in police premises. These replaced 18W fluorescents strip lights.

The LED Tubes do not require starters or ballasts (which also consume power) thereby making additional energy savings and removing components which would otherwise require ongoing maintenance.

THE RESULT The savings in electricity consumption achieved are over 60%, giving a corresponding carbon dioxide reduction. Furthermore, the LED Tubes last over three times longer than the fluorescents, saving Herts Constabulary lamp replacement maintenance costs.

The longer life of the LED Tubes also means less actual waste disposal of failed tubes, starters and ballasts, which has significant environmental benefits as fluorescents contain the toxic chemicals mercury and lead, as well as being made of glass.

LED TECHNOLOGYA light-emitting diode (LED) is an electronic light source. The LED was introduced as a practical electronic component in 1962. All early devices emitted low-intensity red light, but modern LEDs are available across the visible, ultraviolet and infra red wavelengths, with very high brightness.

LEDs are based on the semiconductor diode. When the diode is forward biased (switched on), electrons are able to recombine with holes and energy is released in the form of light. This effect is called electroluminescence and the colour of the light is determined by the energy gap of the semiconductor. The LED is small in area (less than 1mm²) with integrated optical components to shape its radiation pattern and assist in reflection.

OPERATING LIFELEDs are solid-state devices so are not subject to catastrophic failure when operated within design parameters. LEDs are designed to operate upwards of 50,000 hours at 25°C ambient temperatures. Operating life is characterised by the degradation of LED intensity over time. Quality LEDs should provide a useful light output > 50,000 hours. After which ongoing degradation will result in the end of its useful life, although the LED will continue to operate as output diminishes for up to 100,000 hours.

COST OF OWNERSHIPWhen comparing the costs of fluorescent strip lights with LED tubes, it is important to take into account the total cost of ownership - not just the prices of the respective tubes, as you are not comparing like-for-like. This can be done by considering the total costs of installation and maintenance, and the total running costs which when combined give the total cost of ownership and hence the true savings which can be achieved by installing LED tubes. LED tubes will typically last three times longer than the equivalent fluorescents and do not require control gear (ballasts and starters) which are needed to light fluorescents. During the life of one LED tube, it is likely that you would have to use three fluorescents, three starters, and replace the ballast once. These hardware costs, plus the labour costs to replace them, will normally far exceed the cost of installing an LED tube, even before any running costs are considered.

LED TECHNICAL GLOSSARY

Ampere (Amp) – The unit for measuring rate of flow of electrical current: Current (Amps) = Power (Watts) / Voltage (Volts)

Brightness – Often used incorrectly with respect to illumination as a synonym for luminous flux. An objective measurement of the visible power of a light source. The term is correctly used when describing screen brightness in a display or television.

Colour Rendering Index (CRI) – A measure of the degree of colour shift objects undergo when illuminated by the light source as compared with those same objects when illuminated by a reference source of comparable colour temperature. The reference source has a CRI of 100.

Colour temperature – The description used to describe the effect of heating an object until it glows incandescently. The emitted radiation, and apparent colour, changes proportional to the temperature; easily envisioned when considering hot metal in a forge that glows red, then orange, and then white as the temperature increases.

Delivered Light – The amount of light a lighting fixture or lighting installation delivers to a target area or task surface, measured in footcandles (fc) or lux (lx).

Diffuser – An object with irregularities on a surface causing scattered light diffusions.

Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) – A digital communications protocol for controlling and dimming lighting fixtures, originally developed in Europe.

Efficacy – The light output of a light source divided by the total electrical power input to that source, expressed in lumens per watt (lm/W).

Flux / Luminous Flux – Luminous flux is the measure of the perceived power of light produced by the LED, adjusted to reflect the varying sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths of light.

Forward voltage – LEDs are current driven devices. If an external current is passed through the device, a forward voltage will be developed across the diode.

Heat Sink – A part of the thermal system that conducts or convects heat away from sensitive components, such as LEDs and electronics.

High Power LED – A high power LED, sometimes referred to as a power LED, is one that is driven at a current of 350 mA or higher.

Illuminance – The intensity of light falling on a surface area. If the area is measured in square feet, the unit of illuminance is footcandles (fc). If measured in square metres, the unit of illuminance is lux (lx).

Kelvin Temperature – Term and symbol (K) used to indicate the comparative colour appearance of a light source when compared to a theoretical blackbody. Yellowish incandescent lamps are 3000K.

LED Chip (Chip) – The light producing semiconductor device that may or may not be incorporated into an LED.

LED Driver – An electronic circuit that converts input power into a current source — a source in which current remains constant despite fluctuations in voltage. An LED driver protects LEDs from normal voltage fluctuations, overvoltages, and voltage spikes.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) – A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a solid-state semiconductor device that converts electrical energy directly into light. At its most basic level, the semiconductor is comprised of two regions. The p-region contains positive electrical charges while the n-region contains negative electrical charges. When voltage is applied and current begins to flow, the electrons move across the n region into the p region. The process of an electron moving through the p-n junction releases energy. The dispersion of this energy produces photons with visible wavelengths.

Lumen (lm) – The international (SI) unit of luminous flux or quantity of light and equals the amount of light that is spread over a square foot of surface by one candle power when all parts of the surface are exactly one foot from the light source.

Lumen Output – The total lumens emitted of a light source, system, or solution.

Luminaire – A lighting fixture complete with installed lamps and other accessories.

Lux (lx) – The international (SI) unit of illuminance, or luminous flux incident on a unit area, frequently defined as one lumen per square meter (lm/m²).

Power Factor – The active power divided by the apparent power (i.e., product of the rms input voltage and rms input current of a driver).

SMDs – Surface-mount LEDs.

Ultraviolet (UV) – Electromagnetic radiation with wavelength shorter than that of visible light

Volt – The term used to describe the electrical potential difference between oppositely charged conductors.

Watt – The unit of electrical power as used by an electrical device during its operation. Many lamps come with rating in watts to indicate their power consumption.
